Now then. People have been writing and speaking of ASCII when they probably
mean ANSI - which is what JAWS understands. ASCII is the older code, and is
got with the numlock on, the alt key held down, then the code in digits for
whichever alphanumeric character is to be typed, by the numpad. ANSI is
got with the numlock on, the alt key held down, then a leading zero followed
by three digits on the numpad to represent the desired alphanumeric
character. ANSI has some more characters than ASCII. Now, welcome Unicode,
which has lots more again!

Ok, ASCII-code 247 is identified by JAWS 5.0 as the "divided by" symbol. Is
that what it should be?

I used JFW 5.0 and 6.2 and they both say the same thing.

Let's see if it comes through the e-mail the same as in NotePad. See
below...

6÷3=2

OK,

I picked a bad example, say ASCII 247. You can't type that one.

You can have any application specific dictionary file and even any user and
application specific file at least in Jaws 7 I don't know about Jaws 5 the
one the student is using.

Thanks.
