Rick, thanks for this, but I'm still having a problem. I'm finding it very
difficult to work out exactly what the string I need to copy from the audio
properties in control panel is. I can't virtualised the window, it says
there's no text, and the jaws cursor is finding nothing. Anybody got any
I was wondering if I could get Goldwave to run with Jaws and what version as
I understand there are a few, should I get? And, also, is this very
expensive do you know? Thanks.

Hi Karen,
Yes, GoldWave is quite accessible with Jaws,
and the current version is 5. something.
I believe it's around $40 U S.

Hi Alex,
If virtualizing the window isn't working for you, try this:
Once you have the audio device you want selected, try routing Jaws to PC,
and reading the string character-by-character, and type it that way in the
.ini file.
If you want, I can send you a copy of my file off-list, so you can
Karen, The version of Goldwave I currently have is 5.25 I think it's the
latest one. There are also jaws scripts for it, but I can't remember where I
got them from.
As for cost, it's a long time since I paid for it, so check

Hi Alex,
I've experienced the same problem with usb-headset when using SAPI
synthesizer. Do You use some SAPI synthesizer with Jaws? If so, try changing
to Eloquence, does the problem still exists?
With best regards!

Can you drop back to an earlier version of Jaws long enough to get this
done?

Rick,
So when will Jaws be ready to support a 64 bit system? That is what is
being released as the hot computer OS now. And I want 1. So when will jaws
be able to run on 1?

When pigs fly. Seriously, probably not before JAWS 11, which means late
2009.

I'm using jaws 9, and I don't have jaws 8 anywhere. The strange thing is,
that when jaws is coming out of the headset after having auto-started after
boot up, if I close it and open it again it comes out of the speakers.

Very odd. I've never had problems with the virtualize window and virtualize
current control since they were introduced.

Hi Alex,
I have found the following:
Jaws will automatically take the last soundcard installed, and it will
go to that card when it loads as a service.
However, if you unload, and reload Jaws without specific parameters
it comes back and runs as an application, on the soundcard of your choice.
I don't know the fancy way to stop this. I have a USB head set with Jaws
speaking through it because I like it that way. I find if you close out
jaws with alt f 4, and restart jaws. Jaws will speak through the speakers.

Hi Larry,
the info you can find in the JAWS online help is already quite good. If
you'd like additional info, I recommend the Firefox With Screen Readers
