how do you start JAWS? Perhaps you have both set to launch at startup, and they are competing to see who starts first. Make sure that JAWS 9 is not set to launch at startup. Also, if you start JAWS with the same hot key, either delete the hot key for JAWS 9, or choose a different one. One way

I just forget exactly where to go under XP, I think it is Start menu -- Programmes. In Vista the Windows key opens up the Default Menu and a couple of selections down is Programmes. In any case Find Jaws 9, arrow right to Explore Jaws,arrow down to to Tools then right. the first option there
