As of Saturday evening, it is no longer functioning with Amazon.com
searches. I've tried JAWS 16, 17, and JAWS 18 with the same result. Any
others able to confirm this?

Hi Tom,
It is a good idea to keep at least 1 earlier version of Jaws installed.
Personally I have J15 thru J18 on all my computers. The trick is to always
make sure that the version of Jaws you want to use as the default is
correctly configured to do so after updating. Also, I only keep the
Tom,
You mentioned that you were in a different version of JAWS at one point. If
you installed a newer version, it will usually take over the logon, even if
you don't set it up.

This particular computer is a Dell Lattitude 6540 laptop, running Windows 7.
I always thought it wise to keep an earlier version of Jaws on a computer,
should the most recent version get corrupted, but now, I'm not sure that is
a good idea.
Anyway, may try to upgrade to Jaws 18 soon, and will
Thanks for letting us all know the resolution. Sorry you had to go through all
that, but you've given us good information.

Something similar used to happen to me on an old laptop. Never could figure
out why, but it hasn't happened on any of my subsequent machines.

I just did what you suggested, and made sure the option to automatically
start Jjaws at the log-on screen was checked. I also checked the other
option to always start Jaws for myself as the main user.
Things now seem to be working properly again.
Not sure how things got changed, so I'll
No kidding. If computers could talk, I'm sure my trusty going on 6 year

Tom,
Insert+J when you have JAWS 17 running. Then Options/Basics. Go through all
the checkboxes in the "Automatically Start JAWS" section. It's likely that
something got unchecked.

It turns out that, for reasons I can't explain, my computer reverted back to
jaws 16, which I also have on the machine.
Now that I'm back in Jaws 17, Outlook is performing as it should.
I still need to trouble-shoot the log-on screen startup issue, but these
steps you gave me should help.
Hi Cristóbal,
Sorry for that last question. I should have realized that Microsoft
Accessibility had no way of trying a system restore via safe mode with all
the problems you were experiencing since they didn't have a snow balls
chance of logging onto your computer! That is surely 1 hell of a
The wife and I tried, but we couldn't get past a certain point. Error
messages to check the eventlog, volume shadow copy error, windows center
protection disabled and as the Internet wasn't working either, the tech
couldn't try to remote into the machine.
Alls well that ends well I
Wow. Major problem and major repair. Glad it finally worked out for you.

Hi Cristóbal,
By any chance, did Microsoft Accessibility attempt a system restore? I'm
just curious to know if this could have gotten you back-up & running again.
Sure glad you got it figured out though.
Take care.

A final follow up to this issue.
I reached out to Microsoft Accessibility. After going over everything, they
suggested that it was most likely a Windows update that for whatever reason
went bad. We tried going into the update section of settings and it kept on
closing on me with all sorts of error
Hi Tom,
You can try the following for your 1st issue, but I can't help with your 2nd
issue:
Note: The steps below were performed running Windows 7 & JAWS versions 15
thru 18. These steps won't work with Windows 8 or 10, & why they won't is
below my steps.

Hello, everyone.
Today, I suddenly have been experiencing two Jaws issues. Any help with
either of them would be appreciated.
I am using Jaws 17 professional, and Windows 7 here.

the log-in screen. I seem to
Hello Pattie,
For some reason, I think you have to burp the routor. First unplug the
routor and wait 5 minutes, plug it back in and restart the routor.
Open I E and type 191.168.1.1 and press enter.
The routor should open up, arrow down and brows around and look for a
