was unintentionally installed when updating the free version of C-cleaner.
First it was Google Chrome being pushed by Piriform, now Avast? Sheesh!

If you have installed or updated CCleaner recently, Avast may have been
surreptitiously installed also. That's because Avast now owns Piriform, the
company that markets CCleaner. There have been reports on this and other
lists of Avast being installed along with CCleaner.

bought the desktop computer. Having said that, Avast was also installed on
