[JAWS-Users] Still broken (RE: JAWS cursor not reading anything in Firefox)

I've FF 36 and despite these changes below, hardware accelerator set to

Hello!

Perhaps you should change this value from true to false in about config
page:

layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled

I use Firefox 34.0 with JAWS 15.0.12085 and the JAWS cursor works quite
well.

See also this discussion:

https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=1095971

Harri

This is the default setting:

layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled set Boolean true

This is what I changed it to:
layers.offmainthreadcomposition.enabled set Boolean false

With this line of text highlighted, press the application key to open the
context menu press the letter, T, to toggle it to true or false.

Take care.

Hi Sharon Prateek,

Try the following:

Question: Is there a way to use the JAWS Cursor in Firefox?
Answer: You can use the JAWS Cursor in Firefox after turning off Firefox's
hardware acceleration setting.
1. In Firefox, press ALT+T to open the Tools Menu and then choose Options.
2. From the Advanced options, choose the General tab.
3. Press TAB to move to the Use Hardware Acceleration when Available
checkbox. Press the SPACEBAR to clear it, then press ENTER to close the

Take care.

Hi,
This is also for tb.

Firefox and Thunderbird both use Direct2D renderingby default. This
prevents the JAWS cursor from detecting information.
Fortunatelyit is easy to disable this rendering. You need to do it
once for each versionof Firefox and Thunderbird you use on your
system. To do
this you need to settwo configuration variables to true:
gfx.direct2d.disabled, and layers.acceleration.disabled.

1. Open the Configuration Editor. In Firefox, enter about:config in the
address bar. In Thunderbird, go to the Tools menu and navigate to
Options,
Advanced, General, then Config Editor.

2. Once in the Configuration editor, press TAB until you are in the list
of options.

3. Pressing UP or DOWN ARROW will move you between options or typing the
first few letters of an option's name will move you to a specific
option
in the list. In this case, type gfx and press DOWN ARROW to
gfx.direct2d.disabled.

4. Assuming the option is set to false, press the APPLICATIONS KEY to
open the context menu and choose Toggle. This will change the
option to true.

5. Go through the same process for layers.acceleration.disabled.

6. Close the Configuration Editor and restart Firefox or Thunderbird.
The JAWS cursor should now show content.

Research it is a nifty tool that we can easily access to gain information
and access sites like wicapedia and a dictionary called wictionary. Do the
following:

1.Jaws key and space bar plus the letter R

2. Tab once

3. Press the first letter of site you want. For example if you want
the top ten news items on Reuters press R, for CNN press C, for MLB (major
league baseball) press M etc. If you need a dictionary definition put the
word you want to look up in the edit box when you access the site, tab once
and press w plus the enter key. The word will be researched.

4. I hope I got it right, Judith

My husband and I often confront the same problem. Let's say you're reading
an article that you want her input on. You hear the word water and need
her to read where you are. Using control right or left arrow go back or
foreward to the letter w. That's where the cursor will be and she should be
able to navigate from there.

This often happens with Research It, as web sites frequently make changes. You

Judith,

Mark Damrie from FS clearly said that it was due to the underlying web site
having changed, and that they (FS) are working on it. It will require an

update to the current version of JAWS that we will need to download and
install. Nothing until then.

[JAWS-Users] JAWS sighted assistance

2015-04-08 Thread Alan Robbins
Hello,

Hoping for some direction here as my sighted wife and I have
this discussion frequently.

Is there a way for a sighted person to see on screen what I
am doing with JAWS? The only time this is important is when
I cannot accomplish something with JAWS and require a pair
of eyes. I will use JAWS to go to where I need help and my
wife has no idea of what I'm doing or where I am with JAWS
when looking at the screen. Is there any way around this? It
makes getting sighted assistance very difficult.

Best,

From what I've been told, if the, Screen Track Virtual Cursor option is

Here you go:
1. Press the, Jaws key + 6, on the number row above the main keyboard to

Jaws Settings Center default all applications.
2. Arrow down to, Web / HTML / PDFs, press the right arrow to open.

4. Arrow down to, Screen Tracks Virtual Cursor, if this is unchecked press
the spacebar to check it. If it's already checked press the, Escape button,
a couple of times to close the Settings Center.
5. If you had to check the, Screen Tracks Virtual Cursor, option tab to

2015-04-08 Thread Jan Bloem
Hello all,

Install MAGic 13 Demo on the computer. Set it up so it never runs unless you
launch it and set it up for magnification level 1.x and save that setting.
Now, when you want to show something to somebody sighted, launch MAGic and
run it together with JAWS.

Note that the screen representation when MAGic is running will always be
screen layout rather than virtual so lines will be shorter on the web and
links will be in the lines.

Succes and best regards,

Hi Alan List Members,

From what I've been told, if the, Screen Track Virtual
Cursor option is checked this will supposedly do what y'all
are wanting. Here's the steps:

Here you go:
1. Press the, Jaws key + 6, on the number row above the main
keyboard to open the Jaws Settings Center then press,
Control, Shift, + D, to open Jaws Settings Center default
all applications.
2. Arrow down to, Web / HTML / PDFs, press the right arrow

3. Arrow down to, Navigation, press right arrow to open.
4. Arrow down to, Screen Tracks Virtual Cursor, if this is
unchecked press the spacebar to check it. If it's already
checked press the, Escape button, a couple of times to close
the Settings Center.
5. If you had to check the, Screen Tracks Virtual Cursor,
option tab to apply, press the spacebar, tab to okay, press
the spacebar to save your change close the Settings
Center.

Best,

Al

2015-04-08 Thread J.Cyr
I have had that selection checked in the last several versions of Jaws and it
never helped me or Anyone sighted who attempted to assist me. I don't know
what it thinks it is tracking but far as I can tell the PC cursor isn't
involved.

I agree that the fastest easiest way to get something done is to unload Jaws,
unfortunately if it is something you need to do repeatedly and preferably on
your own that isn't a lot of help. And for those of us who don't live with
someone sighted not being able to work out what is going on is a real problem.

I have this check on my pc. So do you have to hit any key to get the
virtual cursor on. I know there is a jaws cursor and a pc cursor. So what
do you have it on to make the virtual cursor work? Maybe I am missing
something here.
