Firefox and Thunderbird both use Direct2D renderingby default. This prevents the JAWS cursor from detecting information. Fortunatelyit is easy to disable this rendering. You need to do it once for each versionof Firefox and Thunderbird you use on your system. To do this you need to settwo configuration variables to true: gfx.direct2d.disabled, and layers.acceleration.disabled. 1. Open the Configuration Editor. In Firefox, enter about:config in the address bar. In Thunderbird, go to the Tools menu and navigate to Options, Advanced, General, then Config Editor. 2. Once in the Configuration editor, press TAB until you are in the list of options. 3. Pressing UP or DOWN ARROW will move you between options or typing the first few letters of an option's name will move you to a specific option in the list. In this case, type gfx and press DOWN ARROW to gfx.direct2d.disabled. 4. Assuming the option is set to false, press the APPLICATIONS KEY to open the context menu and choose Toggle. This will change the option to true. 5. Go through the same process for layers.acceleration.disabled. 6. Close the Configuration Editor and restart Firefox or Thunderbird. The JAWS cursor should now show content. Hth. Angela from Italy Il 01/04/2015 21:19, Dujari, Prateek ha scritto: Hello gang. Jim and I have the same concern. He spent 40 years as a graphic artist and taught electronics; yet, he's pretty buffaloed by where I am and how for me to navigate the way I need to on my own. It looks to him that there are things outside the perimeters of JAWS that I can't get to. Been there do that too! I often work with a sighted computer technician and that is beyond frustrating since I am having things that aren't directly related to my problem and/or that I understand just fine explained to me because that is the part of the screen he is looking at! One thing I have noticed is that Jaws is usually lower down on the page then the mouse cursor, ... but still that doesn't always bridge the gap. If anyone has found a solution I can't wait to hear it because it seriously stops me asking for help on occasion, ... times you just can't take the hassle! You might want to check out www.oxforddictionaries.com. The site is operated by arguably the best dictionary, thesaurus etc. outfit in the biz. I picked up a reference to the site when I entered a word for translation on google.com. I don't use the site for long translations, but I imagine that the service would accommodate more than a word or a phrase. I would trust the OED over any other dictionary, especially for word origin, so I imagine that their translation work is of high quality. http://www.oxforddictionaries.com/words/about-odo On 4/8/2015 3:52 PM, Joeylamperis wrote: First of all what language do you speak? Hi Mike, I have this check on my pc. So do you have to hit any key to get the virtual cursor on. I know there is a jaws cursor and a pc cursor. So what do you have it on to make the virtual cursor work? Maybe I am missing something here. Hello all, Install MAGic 13 Demo on the computer. Set it up so it never runs unless you launch it and set it up for magnification level 1.x and save that setting. Now, when you want to show something to somebody sighted, launch MAGic and run it together with JAWS. Note that the screen representation when MAGic is running will always be screen layout rather than virtual so lines will be shorter on the web and links will be in the lines. I don't know what it thinks it is tracking but far as I can tell the PC cursor isn't involved. Re: [JAWS-Users] JAWS sighted assistance
Hi Al All, I have to admit that I personally haven't tried this but, I am only going on the recommendation of others that have tried it state this supposedly works for them. Try unchecking the suggested checkbox see if that helps. Take care. [JAWS-Users] A better accessible free online service to rip audio/video from youtube.com
A lister offered this online service to rip audio off a youtube URL http://www.youtube-mp3.org/ be But this has a strict limitation of 20min or under that the youtube vid should be. I often rip longer interviews and documentaries as well as long concerts uploaded on youtube and the above tool fails for those 20min. A universal free online alternative with no time restriction for the youtube video and one which is also totally accessible to JAWS is: www.videoripper.me this allows you to rip not just the audio but also both the audio and video in a single mp4 file.
