Re: [JAWS-Users] browsers

2017-05-18 Thread Michele Thredgold
How difficult is it to change from IE 11 to Erome? What does one have to learn?
I always feel intimidated by new programs, particularly when they have, for so
long, not been very accessible.

Are the keyboard commands diffouent in Chrome, for example?

I had it set up as my main browser but felt more comfortable with IE 11.
However, if Chrome is faster, and "%picularly if IE is going to be phased out,
I'd like to start getting used to it.

Cheers!

Michele

[JAWS-Users] No Windows Sounds with Jaws

2017-05-18 Thread Dan Kerstetter
Hello all.

I'm not sure when this started, but I'm using JAWS 18 with the latest
Creators Update; and I have no sound for incoming mail or notifications.
I've looked through the JAWS settings and can find no place to change this.
I'm just curious as to why this occurs with Jaws and not NVDA.

I would appreciate any input.

Thanks.

I don't know of any special Jaws keystroke to check your hard disk information.
All I can recommend is that you right click your hard disk in Computer and
choose properties.

Hi Tom,
The touch cursor memics using your finger on a touch screen, only you use
the keyboard on your computer to accomplish the same thing. When you turn
on the touch cursor, the right arrow is like swiping your finger to the
right on a touch screen. You do not need a touch screen on your computer
for this to work. Using the touch cursor and your arrow keys, allows you
to access many controls that you cannot ever get to with the PC cursor or
the JAWS cursor. You can press your arrow keys, and access the buttons on
the toolbars of MS word, for example. The touch cursor does not show up
in

JAWS until version 15.

THe laptop keystroke is:

To disable it:

[JAWS-Users] Problem with Firefox constantly refreshing and Jaws

2017-05-18 Thread Cristóbal
Hello list,

So I’ve been encountering this problem today. In Firefox 53.0 and the latest
JFW 18, the page is constantly refreshing making me lose my place. This is
getting rather annoying fast.

Be it in a Google search results page or other pages. Side note, I’m trying
to look up issues with my Outlook Exchange server not connecting, but it’s
becoming nearly impossible since I’m always getting placed at the top of the
page.

I have the refresh page settings in Jaws set to off and off the top of my
head, don’t’ recall this issue present even yesterday. Firefox is my default
browser, so haven’t yet tried another browser.

Any ideas how to stop this disruptive behavior?

Thanks,

Hi Joseph,

I have managed to fix the problem, but the cause is a mystery. I should have
tried this before, but my brain must have been on vacation. I removed my
settings from JAWS 18--I shouldn't have allowed the migration from 17 to
begin with--and reset things the way I like it. JAWS 18 is working normally.
For kicks I went into JAWS 17 and tried to make sure the settings were
exactly like the one I just did for JAWS 18 and still JAWS 17 had the
problem. Later, I may play with it a little more, but for now I have to
quit. The most likely culprit is probably the general settings in the
keyboard manager, but with my little test, I can't prove it.

By the Way my Windows info is:

Version 1511 (OS build 10586.916)

Thanks for your help! I really appreciate you giving this weir mess a try!

Hi,
I suggest calling VFO first, then let's think about getting your Windows 10
updated. But to make sure you're running the version you think you've got,
can you try the following for me:
1. Open Start menu.
2. Type "winver" (without quotes) and press ENTER.
3. Note down the build number you got and reply to me with this information.
In the meantime, I'll forward this query to a list that deals with Windows
10.

Hi Joseph,

That was a great idea for troubleshooting! Narrator worked correctly. When I
would come to a menu with a submenu it would say "menu collapsed," and I
could open, review the options and close it normally. So it does seem to be
a JAWS issue. I looked through the setting center hoping to find something
that might help and no luck! Do you have any other ideas? I see two choices
at this point, I call VFO for JAWS help, or I try to solve my problem I have
with updating windows, and get Windows 10 updated.

Thanks for the help!

Yes, it is all menus with submenus. Of course, ribbons seem to work fine.

I called it Windows 10 2015 because I couldn't remember what the first
version of windows 10 was called (smile) I have tried to update, but that is
another story I am working on. But if updating would solve this problem, I
will work harder on the story. It is really inconvenient not to be able to
get out of submenus that you don't want to be within in the first place.

Thanks!

Re: [JAWS-Users] accessible anti-virus programs

2017-05-18 Thread Gerald Levy

Microsoft Security Essentials is probably the most JAWS-accessible
anti-virus program for Windows 7 users. Other anti-virus programs like
Avast and AVG may offer superior protection, but they have become so
inaccessible to the point that they are no longer worth considering. For
most blind computer users, MSE should provide adequate protection as long as
they practice safe web surfing habits.

Re: [JAWS-Users] getting stuck in submenus in Windows 10

2017-05-18 Thread Debby

Hi,
What happens if you use Narrator and try to access menus with submenus? If

something to do with JAWS.

Thanks!
