still not be able to play the NLS books. I think the structure is different.
I launched the FSReader 2.0 daisy book help file and found no reference to
NLS books, and I suspect it will be the same

Technically, NLS isn't using anything proprietary. They are using a
standard encryption scheme along with the DAISY standard. The encryption
key is the piece that they obviously try so hard to protect. That is one
reason why they have wanted to keep it to hardware based options. It is a
perfectly.
