That is what I have been doing but am hoping to avoid this by being able to kill the jaws process. A reboot puts ever so much strain on the hardware and a system should be stable enough to be up for days at a time. Re: [JAWS-Users] Emergency Exit command?
Actually, the insert-space followed by the S is a mute speech command. The standard shutdown for Jaws is insert-f4 as Sherry noted. In cases where Jaws becomes unresponsive, as it seems to more and more these days with the bloated program code, the windows key insert-f4 command performs a memory dump and writes a log file that can be sent to Freedom Scientific for troubleshooting if you so choose and they request. This is necessary when Jaws seems to hang and you need to dump it in order to restart it. Re: [JAWS-Users] Emergency Exit command?
I do not know this for sure but what i remembered reading is that jawskey+f4 will just exit jaws regulary as if you did alt+f4 on the jaws application widnow, asking if you want to really close out jaws. what I called the emergency exit command - and learned was jawskey+windowsKey+f4 closes down all processes connected to jaws without asking confirmation. I find that especially if running jaws as a service - using start jaws when windows starts - I am unable to close down jaws from the task manager when it crashes. This sometimes hapepns that I lose speech and the jaws widnow might even disappear but jaws is still in the list of running tasks and cannot be shut down. I am hoping that this emergency exit command can be used in this case. I will try this the next time i have such a crash - if I can get my+ fingers worked into the right knot to do the winkey+jawskey+f4 Thanks to everyone for replying and refreshing my memory btw! I really appreciate this. Re: [JAWS-Users] Emergency Exit command?
Hi The normal JAWS shutdown command of JAWSKey+F4 gives you a confirmation message before shutting down JAWS and works fine if JAWS is working properly. The emergency shutdown command of JAWSKey+Windows+F4 is for those cases when JAWS is not working properly and won't respond to the normal JAWS shutdown command. I find it useful when I receive the error report message that JAWS has crashed but didn't really end, or when I am working on a script and put it into an infinite loop. You can stop JAWS from the task manager by selecting End Task, but how do you find JAWS when it is not speaking without sighted assistance? -Original Message- From: jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com [mailto:jaws-users-list-boun...@jaws-users.com]On Behalf Of Sherri Sent: Thursday, March 31, 2011 6:48 PM To: jaws-users-list@jaws-users.com Subject: Re: [JAWS-Users] Emergency Exit command?
