RE: [JBoss-dev] database schema update

2004-02-09 Thread Rupp, Heiko
Hi,

one one side, I really see this as a cool feature during development.
On the other side, this is very dangerous.

You e.g. have two columns street and housenumber. Now you delete
housenumber as you wish to have both fields in one column.
The data in housenumber is deleted, but the data in street is
not updated to now include the housenmber. So in the next run
you might end up looking for lost data.
Perhaps a fat warning should be printed when columns are removed.

[JBoss-dev] xmbean persistence attributes in xmbean-dd

2004-01-26 Thread Rupp, Heiko
Hi,

I have the impression that the attributes
[EMAIL PROTECTED] and [EMAIL PROTECTED]
should be move to the persistence-manager element of the
xmbean descriptor, as they are specific per pm.

Does it make sense to address this now (*) or is the
xmbean-dd rewritten anyway? So this would be the first
feature request :-)

  Heiko

(*) I am not sure, if I have time to do it.

You mean XMBean persistence?
In the sort of writing attributes at undeploy to storage

Hi,

Ricardo Argüello:

Maybe we should give Maven a try then...

Ewww. Maven is at least as complex as the current buildmagic.
And the behaviour of first fetching Megabytes of stuff before
bringing the first error report is in my eyes not desirable
(yes, I know there is an offline mode).

On the other hand it really has some very nice features like
e.g. documentation building.

RE: [JBoss-dev] metadata management

2003-11-17 Thread Rupp, Heiko
that looked at seem to be too heavy weight for me. But metadata is a
common problem. Therefore, I wanted to know about other requirements.

One requirement is that everything that (meta-)handles metadata
should be in one place. I think it is a pita, when each module has
e.g. code to do the (local) entity resolving on its own. This
should be condensed into a central module with a central file
that tells which file maps to which public id.

Also for the XML files, I'd like to see something like

Tree t = MetadataProvider.get(data for cmp.xml);
String defaultDB = t.getXPath(/foo/bar/default/db);

which means navigating with XPath.
There is a project JXPath (@jakarta), that could help here.

[JBoss-dev] Buildsystem help needed

2003-11-10 Thread Rupp, Heiko
Hi,
I am trying to add better descriptions to the Mbeans in JBoss, so users
know what the
attributes are when they invoke operations in JMX console.

In order to do to, I want to externalize the XMBean descriptors into a
directory under
server/$version/conf/.

I already put a directory with contents under server/src/etc/conf/default.
The directory
is copied to the right location, but the files in it are missing.
How do I tellbuildmagic to include those files as well?

Thanks in advance

Title: [JBoss-dev] Reverse Proxy Servlet

Hi,

I am in favour not to overload default. There are already (too) many
services (e.g. snmp)
that are not used, take memory, extend the startup phase and (sometimes)
open more
ports that need to be secured.

Perhaps there should be a "all" config only for show purposes (list all
services) and
a new "farm" or so config to show clustering.

[JBoss-dev] Jboss-version in 3.2 testsuite/build.xml?

2003-07-22 Thread Rupp, Heiko
Hi,

in 3.2 testsuite/build.xml with in the
jboss elements to xdoclet sometimes 3.0 and sometimes 3.2 is used.
Shouldn't that always be 3.2 for 3.2 type of servers?

AW: [JBoss-dev] performance drop

2003-06-24 Thread Rupp,Heiko
When running a grinder entity bean loadtest against JBoss-3.2.2RC2 we
realize a significant performance drop ever 60 seconds for 2-5 seconds.
Obviously there is some periodic background processing. Has anybody an
idea what kind of process is causing this drop ( garbage collector ? )

What JVM are you running on? I did some benchmarking of xslt procesors
and also compared different JVMs. On 1.3.1, there were indeed big
performance drops on a regular basis. On 1.4.1, the overall performance
was much better and smoother with peak performance a little bit lower
than on 1.3.1

RE: [JBoss-dev] Servlet Spec Question

2003-05-28 Thread Rupp,Heiko
The idea is that you can unambigously identify any element in the
standard dd, by adding an 'ID=xxx' attribute, then in your
 proprietary
dd you can add further information about that element and use

I think this is a good idea.
This makes it easier e.g. to apply filters to certain servlets
and not to others or to even reverse the filter order in
servlet B from the one of servlet A .

RE: [JBoss-dev] Regarding JBoss site

2003-03-27 Thread Rupp,Heiko
Marc,

the new site is nice

Do you prefer the look though? we are trying the more pro

The page width is too big. It needs horizontal scrolling even on
1024x768. I think it should be limited to somewhat around 750 pixels
in width (or let the middle content collapse/expand in width depending
on how the user choose his browser size).

Also without flash(?) (running mozilla) the start page looks somewhat
unpleasing ..

Au revoir a paris

RE: [JBoss-dev] Regarding JBoss site

2003-03-27 Thread Rupp,Heiko
Marc,

if it is something more precise let me know

Replace the top left jboss flash-image with a gif/png/... one.
Not everyone has flash enabled.
