reading objects

2015-07-28 Thread Kimsan via Jfw
I'm testing a scanning software, so my question is this.

After scanning the document, it brings it up in word, I see all the text on
the screen, but it says the document has 27 objects. I know how to list the
objects but how do I read the content?I'm down arrowing and nothing is
said besides blank.

I'm using the 30 day abby fine reader btw.

Thank you.

Try this.

Control-shift-o creates a JAWS list of the objects. Pressing enter on an
item in the list takes you to it.

RE: reading objects

2015-07-28 Thread Adrian Spratt via Jfw
Kimsan,

In that case, the chances are that the object you clicked on is a graphic or
perhaps a photo.

I had to deal with an objects problem a while ago, but I don't remember the
details. Two points, just in case they help:

First, there is a setting in JAWS setting (insert-v) for hiding or not hiding
objects in Word documents. Mine is on, which probably means it's the default.

Second, I have a note to myself from long ago that a lister suggested pressing
insert-F1 to find out what's going on with an object. I'm afraid I can't test
this, as I normally try to do before posting, because I can't think of any Word
document I have right now that contains any objects.

Sorry if this is useless information.

Control shift O then arrow through the list of objects and press enter to
select the one you want. If you need to know what the objects are, and are
unsuccessful with the methods the other listers have put forward, you can
insert alternative text identifying the object with the assistance of a
visually equipped person. When the object is selected, go to the context
menu, up arrow to format and tab to alternative text, and insert your
description. .

RE: reading objects

2015-07-28 Thread Adrian Spratt via Jfw
It might do something if the object is susceptible of OCR. It would be worth
trying for each object in a document that isn't otherwise identifiable. I think
Ann's suggestion for objects that don't contain standard text is creative. The
next step would be Kevin's which is equally creative.

 insert-spacebar
 'o' for OCR
W for window, D for document, s for screen.

 Greg,

I should have waited for you to follow up before posting my reply. Let me
just add, in case people don't recognize it, that pressing shift-F10 is the
same as pressing the applications key.

After you've selected the item shift F10 to context then select edit text
If there is any text there then you should be able to read it otherwise the
objects most likely are pictures of text or other objects within that
 context.

I did that. When I pressed enter on it, it just said it was selected and
 nothing else.

 Try this.

Control-shift-o creates a JAWS list of the objects. Pressing enter on an
item in the list takes you to it.

 Thank you.
