Andy Barton's recently migrated from Eclipse to IntelliJ and he says
he'd be willing to share his experiences with that on September 8.
That sounds great to me.

Does anybody have any ideas for the August 11 meeting?

I could recycle an old Developer's SIG presentation on the
functional language ML that's based on lecture slides I've used when
teaching ML at UA. There's no direct connection to Java but if
you're curious about functional programming ML is a good vehicle for
seeing the concepts. (Haskell is better but I don't have any slides
on it!)

Also, I've been digging into the data binding machinery in Adobe
Flex recently and could perhaps get together something interesting
that talks about the idea and implementation of data binding in Flex.

A third idea for August is one I've mentioned before: a hack night
where we show up with our laptops, quickly identify some open source
thing or REST interface to fiddle with, and see if we can do
something interesting with it before the beer beckons. (Not for
those who like a well-structured meeting.)

I vote for Grails + JSON + GWT.

I like the idea of hack night, but we should save that for a night
when we can't line up a presenter (IMO).

I'll be there and ready for public humbling. I haven't been to a JUG in a
while. Where when are the meetings these days, or at least the meeting of
the 11th?
The application (as I'll explain) is a basic CRUD application, but also my
customer (though savvy is not quite savvy enough) needs to create and
maintain a LOT of forms for his end users. I mean on the order of 100 or
more. And, be able to update them himself semi-regularly: once a year, or
more. Thus, he needs a form building tool that integrates with the end-user
part of the app.

I chose GWT because it seemed to be well supported and easy to integrate
with a grails app. The prospect of learning both JavaScript AND Groovy in
one project seemed a little two daunting. Working with GWT isn't so bad, but
it's a little verbose.

The project is still a work in progress, but I'll be sure to have a working
demo. If people are in a hacking mood, I think I can even accommodate that,
since it's a RESTful interface, it should be simple enough if we can setup a
network.
