Closing and re-opening Kdenlive solves both issues ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
So the question would be, what placed it in this odd state?
In case it's related, I work with a graphics tablet, no mouse.

Resize item start produces the same error.

I just tried to load the provided audio file for testing, added it to two
tracks slightly offset (but overlapping) in time, previewed, exported, and did
not hear any clicks, just pure sine wave.
With Kdenlive 20.08.1

The resulting volume with "sum" seems to be quieter.

For me it's currently necessary to manually get rid of combine. Otherwise the
produced video is not acceptable.

To be more precise, I open the xxx.sh.mlt file, search for combine, delete all
the lines that set combine to 1, save that file, and then run the xxx.sh file
to render my movie.

One more detail: the freeze effect has 3 inputs: the freeze time and two check
boxes. The state of the check boxes is saved correctly when clicked, but
changing the freeze time is not changed.
