That was technically VT-launched vs Konsole-launched. Missed that you wanted
specifically a new session, rather than simply a comparison between bad vs
good.

Yes, just the std wallpapers already available in Maui by default, + some
others downloaded via the std kde tool "Get new wallpapers...".

I created a new user, created therein a 2nd Activity, & switched back & forth
between the two. The A/M's thumbnails stayed blank black for both, just like in
my "real" user account, & also in a VM for testing. As i said originally, this
fault was NOT present in 5.7.5; it came with 5.8.0.

Good luck -- i do hope you can identify & solve the root cause.

This works by the application using KColorSchemeManager (see
https://api.kde.org/frameworks/kconfigwidgets/html/classKColorSchemeManager.html
) which I added for this use case. In addition it needs a widget style which
forwards a hint to KWin. This is implemented in breeze, but Krita (to my
knowledge) hard disabled breeze. If it doesn't work with Krita, it's a bug in
Krita either because they don't use KColorSchemeManager yet or because they
hard disable breeze.

I'm sorry for the inconvenience this behavior causes for your workflow.
Unfortunately it's the way it is and has been like that for ages.

TabBox is a modal mode controlled by holding a modifier. As long as a modifier
is hold the TabBox does not close. The option for showing the TabBox is a
visualization hint and has no influence on the behavior.

I ask you to kindly accept this fact as it is. Being angry about it won't help
you and won't motivate me to work on it. The issue you raised here is a
fundamental change on how the TabBox works. This requires investigation. The
result of this investigation can be that it's too much work to change for one
user.

Interesting. That's kind of what I expected, but much more than I expected. The
KWin started through startkde does not have any of the required environment
variables set and is not part of the dbus session.

My guess is that kwin gets started before startkde. Can you check the parent
process? It should be ksmserver.

Here it's 467 for my two smtp.
We need to define a default port and after that you can check settings.

Hi KDE developers,

My collegue in QA team reported that:
Desktop freeze when using x11perf to test 2D graphics high load!
Mouse, keyboard and network are able to work, but desktop has no response, and
during the test process, all running application windows were closed,
automatically logout to SDDM.

I will try to debug to find the reason, and please someone give some advice,
thanks a lot!

I can confirm this problem still exists in 5.8.1 - with an added regression
that I can no longer change the second screen from Folder View -> Desktop.

The primary screen can be changed at will, yet the secondary screen does not
apply the changes when either clicking OK or Apply.

Do you think that this scaling would be a useful default option? A preference
could then be added to override the behavior. Possible suggestion:

 [ ] Disable downscaling for HiDPI screens
 The default behavior for HiDPI screens is to save an image scaled down to a
nornal size. Enable this option to save the image in the original size instead.

I've really been wanting to switch from Thunderbird to KMail for years now, but
every time I try it, I run into the same issue again: Akonadi can't cope with
my mail account. The raw maildir on the server has a size of 1.4GB and consists
of thousands of mails, many with attachments.
There are actually quite a few reports of hangs and freezes here, but I'm not
quite sure whether any of them is related.

My problem is: Akonadi starts syncing and then suddenly hangs and nothing's
happening anymore. When I turn off "Download all mails for offline use", it
sometimes gets to 100%, but instead of finishing, it continues with 110% until
something like 180%. I also can't see any mails in KMail until Akonadi has
finished the full sync (which can take a long time or doesn't happend at all).

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Set up a mail account with > 1GB of mail
2. Try to sync it via Akonadi IMAP resource
3. Get frustrated

Actual Results:  
KMail is completely useless because I can't get Akonadi to fetch mails from my
IMAP account.

Expected Results:  
Akonadi shouldn't hang, no matter how big the maildir behind the IMAP account
is and it houldn't be necessary to restart Akonadi a hundred times to get
through all the mails. Akonadi should also deliver already synced mails to
KMail immediately, so that I don't have to wait for the full sync to finish
before I can see any mail. A full sync, especially with download for offline
use can take minutes or even hours. However, fetching just the mail headers is
fast and should enable KMail to list mails within seconds, even for very large
maildirs (Thunderbird actually manages to do that). It should also be possible
to move mails to the front of the download queue, so I can click a mail in
KMail during sync to show its contents immediately.

Print Screen currently open Spectacle.
Alt + Print Screen does nothing.
Shift + Print Screen currently saves the full screen to a file without showing
the dialog.

This does not really match the GNOME shortcuts, would you like to see it
differently?

The SMTP configuration dialog suggests port 25 as default. This wrong. Port 25
is supposed to be the relay port, not the submission port. The correct port is
587. Many SMTP servers also accept mail submissions via port 25, but only for
compatibility reasons. Some servers even block port 25 completely.

Capture all windows for "Window under cursor"

Capture the correct area, not just the top-left one (bug 369330).
Capture all possible related windows, not just the top-level (or the
non-transient background window), this will correctly capture whole
applications including the open menus (bug 357223).

The last change also affects how windows with other overlapping ones are
captured, previously the hidden area is shown as if there was no popup.
For example, Kate would be captured and not its Open dialog.

Tested with Kate (Qt 5): Open File -> Add Places Entry -> Select Icon.
Verify that clicking all of these menus show the same screenshot and
that the non-overlapping parts are shown. Right-click to open a context
menu, this is also captured on the delayed screenshot.

Tested with heimdall-frontend and Hedgewars (Qt 4): open a menu, keep
the cursor on it. Verify that the menu and window are captured. Do the
same, but with the cursor outside the menu.

This could be two things:

(1) libkscreen failing to mode-set for some reason, we had a number of bugs
that could lead to that and fixed them for 5.8.

(2) https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=356864 which means that xrandr changes
the list of modes on the fly, which libkscreen doesn't handle gracefully enough
(yet). In that case, killing kscreen_backend_launcher and kded5, then
restarting kded5 should allow to set the correct mode (not an acceptable
workaround, of course, just a quick test to confirm this hunch).

To judge, we'd need
* confirmation if this is fixed in Plasma 5.8, or not
* xrandr -q, ~/.local/share/kscreen/kscreen.log, etc., as explained on
https://community.kde.org/Solid/Projects/ScreenManagement#Debugging_Information

When I drag a maximized window to another screen with the "Wobbly Windows"
effect turned on, weird flickering artifacts are shown on the original screen.
Sometimes these are just a few pixels, sometimes they show large parts of the
window. This does not happen when dragging non-maximized windows.

The attached screenshot shows a quite extreme example which I could only
achieve with Chrome and the "Use system titlebar and borders" setting turned
off (with that setting turned on, artifacts are usually less dramatic).
However, some artifacts can also be produced with other applications such as
Krita.

Using proprietary nvidia driver and TwinView.

After merging 2 and more layers with locked alpha channel in a group (without
merging 1 regular layer underneath) you get a new layer with visible result.
But when you hide-unhide this layer it turns out that result disappeared.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. make new project with new 3 empty layers
2. group them
3. draw something on the bottom layer
4. lock alpha channel on the top 2 layers
5. draw some hatches on every of them to cover the bottom layer
6. select alpha locked channels and merge them
7. hide and unhide merged layer

Actual Results:  
At the step 6 the expected result is visible (as usual) when in fact there is
no more. You could see this in the thumbnail of merged layer in "Layers"
docker.

Expected Results:  
The result of merged layers on step 6 should not disappear.

I don't know if this is possible, but it would be great if Kwin could
automatically adjust the titlebar/window frame color to an application's color
scheme. Programs with dark KDE color schemes (such as Krita) look pretty awful
with bright window borders. This can be fixed by adding windows rules for
changing the window color scheme, but it would be better if Kwin could do that
automatically.

Otherwise known as a "bug"!  In this case the behaviour change is the bug, but
even if it was deliberate not documenting it would still be a bug.

It would be helpful to forwards reports of such things to the Xapian developers
so we can actually address them.  In this case I happened to stumble across
your report via the Debian BTS when checking for any fallout from the
transition to xapian 1.4 that Debian has just completed - clearly that's not a
reliable or timely way to find out about an issue.  If this had been forwarded
when first reported, we could have fixed it before 1.4.0.

The fix applied in 1e70d63a9439f48b5f1a70accac531a10f4e4239 leaks the
AgePostingSource object - with 1.4.0 your best option is to hand over ownership
like so:

return Xapian::Query(Xapian::Query::OP_AND_MAYBE, query, Xapian::Query((new
AgePostingSource(0))->release()));

Hopefully there's still a way we can fix this without breaking compatibility
with 1.4.0.

Forgot to mention that I did this by dragging the class in the Tree View to the
package. Doesn't seem to work that way in the class diagram itself.

In the meanwhile, I discovered that I can add classes to a package (AKA
namespace), but I cannot add an ordinary datatype to a package.

What I would like to do is to build a package for the STL types I am using ...
there anren't very many of those, so I wouldn't have to have the entire STL
imported into my project. But it would be useful for types such as std::vector,
std::string, std::map, and perhaps a few more.

Or is there a better way to do this?

Using Umbrello version 2.18.3 on Ubuntu 16.04.x LTS.

After adding a package in a C++ class diagram (with or without a stereotype
<>), I cannot populate its "Contents" with classes or other types
(datatypes, interfaces, etc.) There is no button "Add...", and right-clicking
in the empty "Contents" box gives me no such option. It remains empty. The
documentation offers no help whatsoever here.

What good is a namespace if it has no classes?

Since the last two plasma updates, the digital clock widget does not show
anything. There is just empty space without anything visible in it.
Furthermore, the calender which appears after clicking on the clock does not
show correct dates. It shows e.g. day 36 of the month. Additionally, the analog
clock widget does not change. It shows the same time all day long. 
The bug still remained after i reinstalled my system (openSUSE Tumbleweed).

Another thing, when you disable the tabbox visualisation, there shouldn't be
any need for tab box mode at all. The shortcut could simply select the next
window without entering any kind of mode.

I hold alt, hit tab a few times, then hit J... KDE should be able to detect
alt-J is not a window cycling shortcut, end tabbox mode, and send alt+J,
interpreting it as a shortcut if it is a shortcut. That behaviour seems far
more desirable to me than the current status.

Why can't hitting a different key end the mode and apply the appropriate mode?

Surely a bug this annoying can be circumvented? Cycling windows and desktops
are the two most used KDE shortcuts by far, having to keep releasing the
modifier between them drives me crazy! I don't want to use AwesomeWM, I want to
use KDE, but this bug is so irritating it makes KDE unusable for me.
