I found /usr/libexec/kdeconnectd is also needed to run.
Now that it runs, dolphin works fine.
I still feel it is a bug if an applications does not complain about

Most of them are a tile with 75% of 0x4d ("M"), then 25% 0x00.
They don't appear in "Select Opaque", or anywhere AFAICS.

I think the problem has to do with time zones. I went into my System Settings
-> Regional Settings -> Date & Time, changed the time zone and then changed it
back. The problem seems to be better now.
