The closest I have been able to get is: 1. In System settings -> Display and monitor -> Night color, set activation time to "Always on". 2. In the panel, add a Night color control plasmoid. 3. Click the plasmoid when I want to turn night color on or off. This has worked so far, except for activating night color on every login, which is not a huge problem because it only happens after rebooting for kernel upgrades. However, tonight night color is inhibited by some unknown thing and forging magic cookies to "qdbus org.kde.KWin /ColorCorrect org.kde.kwin.ColorCorrect.uninhibit" doesn't enable it. I could continue fighting the inhibition system, or try adding a new DBus interface to show the inhibitor list, but instead of adding workarounds to workarounds I have a feature request: add a manual mode, which ignores the inhibitor system entirely and just features an on/off switch in the panel. Remembering the last status and re-applying that at login (instead of always activating it) would be a bonus. Committed on 26/09/2020 at 13:11. Pushed by ngraham into branch 'release/20.08'. Fix deadlock when closing gwenview importer When gwenview_importer is closed after importing files, it gets into a deadlock. This bug was introduced in commit 4f7d35d1 by the refactoring of thumbnailprovider and thumbnailgenerator. The deadlock is caused by the fact that closing the application will directly trigger a wait() in the thumbnailgenerator thread which will wait on proper closure of this thread before allowing the application to exit. However, this thumbnailgenerator thread is, at that moment, in a QWaitCondition state which is intended to wait on new thumbnails to be generated. As far as I can see, this is not a problem in the main gwenview application because the deadlock will eventually be lifted by the destruction of the thumbnailgenerator object by the chain of destructors going from application level down to thumbnailprovider which is the owner of this object. In the importer the situation is a bit different. After importing has finished, the thumbnailpage which is the owner of thumbnailprovider is not the current widget anymore. It still exists in the background in case the user presses the "Import more Documents" button. For some reason the destruction chain doesn't seem to properly trigger the cancel() function of the thumbnailgenerator object/thread. The simple solution is to call the cancel() function just before the wait() function is called when the application emits aboutToQuit(). This is proper behavior, since the thumbnailgenerator should always be triggered to close down when the application is quitting. M +1-0lib/thumbnailprovider/thumbnailgenerator.cpp https://invent.kde.org/graphics/gwenview/commit/d15622e1655ba7fcd33479f9677112340b2de7ff -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=427003 Ismael Asensio changed: What|Removed |Added CC||isma...@gmail.com --- Comment #1 from Ismael Asensio --- Hi David, This is probably Firefox itself which remembers the VD and position it was closed, and sets it up again on opening. It also overrides a kwin rule that it's set as "apply initially", since the application sets the VD *after* the rule has effect, so there is not much that can be done on kwin side. If you open a second firefox instance it should go to your current VD, since now the application doesn't try to restore its saved session information. The fact that most of the times the view doesn't move to the VD where the new instance is open is also probably due to "focus stealing prevention". -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

All the applications have always been opened in the active virtual desktop (which is the default behavior, as far as I know). However, three or four months ago Firefox started opening in the VD where I closed it for the last time. There is no window rule regarding Firefox, either in systemsettings or ~/.config/kwinrulesrc. I have two rules that affect two other applications, but none of them has anything to do with remembering the VD where they were closed (I can't even find that specific setting in the window rules menu). A couple of things I have noticed: - Logging off doesn't make it forget where it closed for the last time. - Let's say I'm in VD 1, but last time I closed Firefox I was in VD 4. If I launch Firefox, about 90% of the times it will open in VD 4, so I have to go to VD 4 manually in order to get the Firefox window. However, about 10% of the times, the desktop cube will rotate automatically and take me to VD 4, without me doing anything. I don't expect people being able to reproduce this, because if this happened to everyone, it would have been noticed (and surely fixed) a long time ago. But I would be very grateful if someone could point me to the setting, configuration file or whatever, where this window rule might be hiding. Whatever it is, since it doesn't show up in the Window Rules list, I believe this to be a proper bug.
