[plasmashell] [Bug 453554] turning one monitor off kills the panel configuration of the second monitor

2022-06-16 Thread Kai Krakow
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453554

Okay, so I'm now on Plasma 5.25 and this original issue seems fixed.

But now, when I turn the monitor back on, the background image of that monitor
is gone and completely black. I also cannot right click on the background: no
context menu would appear.

The panels are still there, and switching the panels to editing mode doesn't
show the additional button bar to change background images, global design etc
on that monitor (but it's shown on the others).

Only restarting plasmashell will bring back the background image and context
menu function.

Now every data point of "Events" has a label.

But I have still two problems:
First: Some labels seem not to be the correct ones.
And Second: Zooming the scales generates "zombie" labels.

[frameworks-baloo] [Bug 455456] New: baloo_file doesn't index drives if you let KDE mount them "On Login"

2022-06-16 Thread skierpage
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455456

Bug ID: 455456
Summary: baloo_file doesn't index drives if you let KDE mount
them "On Login"
   Product: frameworks-baloo
   Version: 5.93.0
  Platform: Fedora RPMs
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Baloo File Daemon
  Assignee: baloo-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: skierp...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
I edited ~/.config/baloofilerc telling it to index folders on my NTFS drive
which I had mounted in /etc/fstab, and Baloo indexed them for years 拾. Until,
as part of reinstalling Fedora, instead of /etc/fstab I let KDE mount my NTFS
drive using System Settings > Removable Storage > Removable Devices, by
checking Automount > Attached Devices > Windows "On Login".

After I this change, `balooctl monitor` showed that baloo_file wasn't noticing
new and changed files on NTFS. However, a manual `balooctl check` would find
new and changed files and index them. I'm pretty sure the reason they're not
indexed is Plasma startup starts the /usr/libexec/baloo_file process before
calling /sbin/mount.ntfs to mount the drive, and the already running baloo_file
doesn't seem to "notice" that the path to the folder is now available to
monitor.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. In System Settings > Removable Storage > Removable Devices , configure an
attached drive to Automount "On Login"
2. Add the absolute (no symbolic links) path to a directory on this drive to
~/.config/baloofilerc, e.g.
   folders[$e]=$HOME/,/run/media/spage/Windows/Users/spage/Documents/
3. Reboot computer.
4. Enter the terminal command `balooctl monitor &`
5. Modify a file in this directory, e.g. `echo balooIndexMe >
/run/media/spage/Windows/Users/spage/Documents/index_test.txt
6. Search for this file, e.g. `baloosearch balooIndexMe`
7. Restart baloo with `balooctl disable`, `baloctl enable`
8. Repeat step 5.

OBSERVED RESULT
balooctl monitor doesn't report "Indexing: /path/to/new/file.txt"; searching
for its content fails. But if you restart baloo, then baloo_file starts
watching the folder on the drive.

EXPECTED RESULT
I know file notification is hard, and there's an argument that Baloo shouldn't
index "removable" drives; but this is unexpected behavior that's too sensitive
to startup order. baloo_file should watch for when folders it's been told to
index appear, even when it's already running.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Linux/KDE Plasma:
KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.5
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.93.0
Qt Version: 5.13.3 on Wayland

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Advanced users might be able to modify the kde-baloo.service to wait for KDE's
disk automounting.
A workaround is to restart baloo_file with balooctl disable then balooctl
enable.

I've tried to reproduce this with Windows 10 and the latest version I've
released. While the cURL binary is certainly a stunted version, the powershell
fallback is kicking in successfully.

However, on checking the reporter's screenshot, it says they're using 3.0.2.
Judging from the Git log of Krita, I believe this is 3.0.2.1. The fallback I'm
mentioning was shipped starting with 3.0.2.2 and all upstream versions, none of
which were included in our 5.0 branch. Can you check again but with the 5.1
nightly? You can get it from

I run the i3 window manager and it has been working alongside KDE for me for
years. When I updated to plasma 5.25 this broke and I was not able to use my
other window manager. I checked the environment variable with `echo $KDEWM` and
the output is still the expected `/usr/bin/i3`

[kwin] [Bug 455450] New: Slide desktop animation is slower in 5.25, especially compared to other animations

2022-06-16 Thread Prajna Sariputra

Bug ID: 455450
Summary: Slide desktop animation is slower in 5.25, especially

   Version: 5.25.0
  Platform: Archlinux Packages

Created attachment 149836

Comparison between slide desktop and some other animations

SUMMARY
Since upgrading to 5.25.0 I noticed that the animation speed when switching
desktops with the slide effect (by scrolling on the desktop, the pager on the
panel or via keyboard shortcuts) is significantly slower than before, but I
don't see any other animations being changed that drastically. Increasing the
global animation speed in System Settings does speed it up, however to make it
feel like how it was in 5.24 all other animations end up near instant as a
result.

I have attached a screen recording to show what the slide desktop animation
looks like compared to some other animations (overview, showing the application
launcher, window switching via Alt+Tab, show desktop).

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Enable the slide desktop animation
2. Switch to another virtual desktop using a keyboard shortcut or scrolling on
the desktop or scrolling on the pager
3. Observe the animation speed

OBSERVED RESULT
The animation is much slower than others in Plasma (say opening the application
launcher).

EXPECTED RESULT
The animation speeds should be at least somewhat consistent with the rest of
the system.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Operating System: Arch Linux
KDE Plasma Version: 5.25.0
KDE Frameworks Version: 5.95.0

Memory: 15.5 GiB of RAM
Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® HD Graphics 530

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
My touchpad unfortunately only supports two fingers, and I also don't have a
touchscreen, so the one to one animation thing doesn't help in my case. My
mouse wheel doesn't have high precision or anything like that either, it's just
a Logitech M90, which is like the cheapest mouse I found in the store I bought
it from.

[kwin] [Bug 455449] New: Incorrect scaling of login screen with multiple monitors

2022-06-16 Thread bugzilla_noreply
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455449

Bug ID: 455449
Summary: Incorrect scaling of login screen with multiple
monitors
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.24.4
  Platform: Kubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: multi-screen
  Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org
  Reporter: menariaar...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

Created attachment 149835
  --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=149835=edit
Login screen in two different cases are shown.

NOTE
Before I describe the bug in detail, I am aware that there are some scaling
limitations of kwin on X11 for multiple displays. But i feel something can be
done in this particular case so I request you to read all the details
carefully.

SUMMARY
Due to xrandr issues, when multiple displays with different resolutions are
connected the login screen has scaling issues. The larger display accommodates
the login screen properly however the smaller display does not (see the
attachment, top figure). However, i have also noticed that the cursor doesn't
blink on any of the displays in the password text box. But you can still type
in the password without noticing any characters in the text boxes. This means a
user can skip characters and not notice his mistake at all.
Overall, This becomes quite confusing visually as to which display to focus on
to type the password and whether the keyboard is responsive. Thus, a solution
(if possible) is to show the login screen on only one of the connected
displays. GDM3 does the same thing on gnome.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Connect an external monitor (2560x1440) with a larger resolution than the
laptop (1920x1080)
2. Select X11 session must be default session (Kubuntu 22.04 recommended).
3. Boot the laptop into linux by pressing the turn on button or selecting linux
from the dual boot menu.
4. Login into the user account.
5. Right click and select 'Configure Display Settings'.
6. Select your external monitor as primary display and Disable your Laptop
display (or leave it as secondary display).
7. Save the settings and reboot to the KDE Plasma login screen.

OBSERVED RESULT
Both displays show a login screen scaled to resolution of external display with
(2560x1440) resolution. This results in a cropped screen on the smaller
display.
Cursor in the password text box is missing on both monitors. If you type the
password directly, no activity is visible in the text box.
However, if you click in the password text box first and type the password, it
behaves properly.

EXPECTED RESULT
Login screen should only be displayed on the primary display. Cursor should be
blinking in the text box for typing the password.
On the secondary(or smaller) monitor, a Properly scaled login screen with a
blurred background image and date-time in the center (see external monitor
output in the 2nd frame of the attachment as a reference).
 OR -
When an external (or larger resolution) display is connected, only the external
display should show the login screen and laptop screen is disabled. Cursor
should blink in the text box for typing the password.

These are not duplicates, as evidenced by the "steps to reproduce". In 439481
the environment variable KDEWM is not set, in this bug report it has been set,
and as described by
https://userbase.kde.org/Tutorials/Using_Other_Window_Managers_with_Plasma this
should result in the specified binary being started instead of Kwin.

[kwin] [Bug 455355] Regression in 5.25: Mouse no longer configurable / pull action completely gone

2022-06-16 Thread Christian
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455355

A very crude way to get that behaviour again would be to modify the main.qml of
windowview to

onWindowClicked: {
if (eventPoint.event.button == Qt.MiddleButton) {
window.closeWindow();
}
else if (eventPoint.event.button == Qt.RightButton) {
window.desktop = KWinComponents.Workspace.currentDesktop;
}
else {
   return;
}
}

but imho this should be configurable, as in: users can configure what the left,
right and middle button do, possibilities being activate, pull, close, nothing.
Plus probably there should be some checks, e.g. I have no idea how
currentDesktop behaves in some edge cases / on Wayland, and
https://develop.kde.org/docs/extend/plasma/kwin/api/#read-write-properties is
a bit bare. But if you want to see what the functionality would do: the above
will do just that.

But then:

> 1. Make changes to settings like wallpaper, Dolphin, icon only task manager
> placement, add icons, widgets
> 2. Force kwin or xwayland to crash
3. upon getting logged back in or rebooting your settings may be reset to
default/deleted.

So which is it? Did this issue happen after you turned on the computer
following a seemingly successful update, or a KWin crash? Or an XWayland crash?
Those are all different things.

Hi,
after the latest updates on fedora35 (plasma 5.24.5) and fedora36 (plasma 5.25)
krusader is not able to open and show (inline in the panel) the contents of zip
or rar archives any more.
Works ok on 5.24.5, but i think the kio-slave updates (kf5 frameworks??) must
be responsible for this, before this update it worked fine.

Interestingly, dolphin can display zip archives, but not 7z archives.
krusader can still display tgz or tar archives

maybe it's just the krarc component in krusader
you see (when opening an archive) in the location bar only this
krarc: > home > > > > >
The bottom only shows 'Reading...'

whereas a tar archive shows something like this
tar: > home > user > data.tgz

i downgraded kf5-kio-* from 5.95.0 to 5.94.0
and...all is fine (again)

still annoying not being able to use the new kio version, though

Bug ID: 455445
Summary: Duplicate window remains after snapping Firefox to
side (X11)
   Product: kwin
   Version: 5.25.0
  Platform: Archlinux Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal

Brief video showing observed effect

SUMMARY
After snapping Firefox to any side, and then returning the window to windowed
mode, a duplicate window is shown. See attached video. The same effect is seen
in Lutris. I have not observed the same effect for any other application.
Dissabling compositing removes this problem.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Drag Firefox to any side
2. Drag Firefox back to the middle

OBSERVED RESULT
A duplicate window is seen on the right side.

I am also experiencing this bug. The first click on any button (close window
button, add desktop button, remove desktop button) after enabling overview mode
works as expected. Any subsequent clicks requires two clicks for the button to
work.
I hope this helps.

Animation: Re-added AutoKey support to filters.

After moving AutoKey functionality out of KisTransaction and into the
calling strokes, we've now re-added the functionality to filter changes
too.

On top of that we've added registered AutoKey changes with the undo
system. (Though it requires 2 separate undos for now.)

I wonder if this is a kwin bug. What likely happens there is that ksplashqml
crashed before kwin started and so drkonqi's window would be stuck to the top
left (without window frame). Then kwin starts but fails to shift the window
down to accommodate the now present window frame, leaving the frame stuck
outside the viewport. Moving the bug to kwin for inspection.

"Chromium is currently blocking sleep and screen locking (playing audio)" (when
minimized)
This bug also occurs when lutris blocks sleep with "running game" message.

Also, maybe it's little off topic, but in xorg firefox after minimizing removes
it's inhibitor, but for wayland it doesn't. That's weird because wayland also
sends minimize event? So it's probably either firefox wayland implementation
bug or xwayland bug?

I don't think so. I see plasma notifications and they show up in the Plamoid's
notification history, so I think they are sent using the usual APIs.

I guess there are several ways that electron apps can use notifications, but I
am 99% sure that the notifications I am talking about are displayed by plasma.
And the behavior changed after some Plasma/KF upgrades while the electron apps
were not updated at the same time.

[kwin] [Bug 455355] Regression in 5.25: Mouse no longer configurable / pull action completely gone

Sure, so on the old effect you could bind actions to mouse buttons, activate
(obvious), close (obvious) and at least pull to current desktop, maybe others,
but these are the ones I used.

What pull to current desktop does: Say you have 6 virtual desktops, and you are
currently on desktop 1, and start the effect: with that mouse button you could
pull windows from desktops 2-6 to desktop 1, which is very handy and efficient
to manage multiple windows at once, e.g. if you want to pull a code editor and
a browser with documentation quickly to the same virtual desktop

backends/drm: use GBM_BO_USE_SCANOUT when importing buffers for multi gpu

The gbm surface may not have the scanout use flag, and if the buffer is
imported
without it, creating the framebuffer may fail

Add placeholder text to empty category pages

This commit adds a PlaceholderMessage to the Bookshelf which is shown if
CategoryEntriesModel.count == 0. This occurs if e.g. there are no comics with
the according metadata in the library.

Ok, then I guess that wasn't the issue.

If the problem is a proflie missing in the dropdown menu, then that's a problem
in code that's outside of KDE, in either PulseAudio or PipeWire. I would
encourage you fil file a bug with them at either
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pulseaudio/pulseaudio/-/issues/
https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/pipewire/pipewire/-/issues, depending on which
audio subsystem you're using.

We had one other person report this in the past but I can't find that bug
report now, and unfortunately I haven't the faintest clue what could possibly
cause it.
