[plasmashell] [Bug 453554] turning one monitor off kills the panel configuration of the second monitor
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=453554 --- Comment #6 from Kai Krakow --- Okay, so I'm now on Plasma 5.25 and this original issue seems fixed. But now, when I turn the monitor back on, the background image of that monitor is gone and completely black. I also cannot right click on the background: no context menu would appear. The panels are still there, and switching the panels to editing mode doesn't show the additional button bar to change background images, global design etc on that monitor (but it's shown on the others). Only restarting plasmashell will bring back the background image and context menu function. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[frameworks-baloo] [Bug 455456] New: baloo_file doesn't index drives if you let KDE mount them "On Login"
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455456 Bug ID: 455456 Summary: baloo_file doesn't index drives if you let KDE mount them "On Login" Product: frameworks-baloo Version: 5.93.0 Platform: Fedora RPMs OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: Baloo File Daemon Assignee: baloo-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: skierp...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY I edited ~/.config/baloofilerc telling it to index folders on my NTFS drive which I had mounted in /etc/fstab, and Baloo indexed them for years 拾. Until, as part of reinstalling Fedora, instead of /etc/fstab I let KDE mount my NTFS drive using System Settings > Removable Storage > Removable Devices, by checking Automount > Attached Devices > Windows "On Login". After I this change, `balooctl monitor` showed that baloo_file wasn't noticing new and changed files on NTFS. However, a manual `balooctl check` would find new and changed files and index them. I'm pretty sure the reason they're not indexed is Plasma startup starts the /usr/libexec/baloo_file process before calling /sbin/mount.ntfs to mount the drive, and the already running baloo_file doesn't seem to "notice" that the path to the folder is now available to monitor. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. In System Settings > Removable Storage > Removable Devices , configure an attached drive to Automount "On Login" 2. Add the absolute (no symbolic links) path to a directory on this drive to ~/.config/baloofilerc, e.g. folders[$e]=$HOME/,/run/media/spage/Windows/Users/spage/Documents/ 3. Reboot computer. 4. Enter the terminal command `balooctl monitor &` 5. Modify a file in this directory, e.g. `echo balooIndexMe > /run/media/spage/Windows/Users/spage/Documents/index_test.txt 6. Search for this file, e.g. `baloosearch balooIndexMe` 7. Restart baloo with `balooctl disable`, `baloctl enable` 8. Repeat step 5. OBSERVED RESULT balooctl monitor doesn't report "Indexing: /path/to/new/file.txt"; searching for its content fails. But if you restart baloo, then baloo_file starts watching the folder on the drive. EXPECTED RESULT I know file notification is hard, and there's an argument that Baloo shouldn't index "removable" drives; but this is unexpected behavior that's too sensitive to startup order. baloo_file should watch for when folders it's been told to index appear, even when it's already running. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.93.0 Qt Version: 5.13.3 on Wayland ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Advanced users might be able to modify the kde-baloo.service to wait for KDE's disk automounting. A workaround is to restart baloo_file with balooctl disable then balooctl enable. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

Increasing the global animation speed in System Settings does speed it up, however to make it feel like how it was in 5.24 all other animations end up near instant as a result. I have attached a screen recording to show what the slide desktop animation looks like compared to some other animations (overview, showing the application launcher, window switching via Alt+Tab, show desktop). STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Enable the slide desktop animation 2. Switch to another virtual desktop using a keyboard shortcut or scrolling on the desktop or scrolling on the pager 3. [kwin] [Bug 455449] New: Incorrect scaling of login screen with multiple monitors
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455449 Bug ID: 455449 Summary: Incorrect scaling of login screen with multiple monitors Product: kwin Version: 5.24.4 Platform: Kubuntu Packages OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: multi-screen Assignee: kwin-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: menariaar...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- Created attachment 149835 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=149835=edit Login screen in two different cases are shown. NOTE Before I describe the bug in detail, I am aware that there are some scaling limitations of kwin on X11 for multiple displays. But i feel something can be done in this particular case so I request you to read all the details carefully. SUMMARY Due to xrandr issues, when multiple displays with different resolutions are connected the login screen has scaling issues. The larger display accommodates the login screen properly however the smaller display does not (see the attachment, top figure). However, i have also noticed that the cursor doesn't blink on any of the displays in the password text box. But you can still type in the password without noticing any characters in the text boxes. This means a user can skip characters and not notice his mistake at all. Overall, This becomes quite confusing visually as to which display to focus on to type the password and whether the keyboard is responsive. Thus, a solution (if possible) is to show the login screen on only one of the connected displays. GDM3 does the same thing on gnome. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Connect an external monitor (2560x1440) with a larger resolution than the laptop (1920x1080) 2. Select X11 session must be default session (Kubuntu 22.04 recommended). 3. Boot the laptop into linux by pressing the turn on button or selecting linux from the dual boot menu. 4. Login into the user account. 5. Right click and select 'Configure Display Settings'. 6. Select your external monitor as primary display and Disable your Laptop display (or leave it as secondary display). 7. Save the settings and reboot to the KDE Plasma login screen. OBSERVED RESULT Both displays show a login screen scaled to resolution of external display with (2560x1440) resolution. This results in a cropped screen on the smaller display. Cursor in the password text box is missing on both monitors. If you type the password directly, no activity is visible in the text box. However, if you click in the password text box first and type the password, it behaves properly. EXPECTED RESULT Login screen should only be displayed on the primary display. Cursor should be blinking in the text box for typing the password. On the secondary(or smaller) monitor, a Properly scaled login screen with a blurred background image and date-time in the center (see external monitor output in the 2nd frame of the attachment as a reference). OR - When an external (or larger resolution) display is connected, only the external display should show the login screen and laptop screen is disabled. Cursor should blink in the text box for typing the password. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455355 --- Comment #3 from Christian (Fuchs) --- A very crude way to get that behaviour again would be to modify the main.qml of windowview to onWindowClicked: { if (eventPoint.event.button == Qt.MiddleButton) { window.closeWindow(); } else if (eventPoint.event.button == Qt.RightButton) { window.desktop = KWinComponents.Workspace.currentDesktop; } else { return; } } but imho this should be configurable, as in: users can configure what the left, right and middle button do, possibilities being activate, pull, close, nothing. Plus probably there should be some checks, e.g. I have no idea how currentDesktop behaves in some edge cases / on Wayland, and https://develop.kde.org/docs/extend/plasma/kwin/api/#read-write-properties is a bit bare. Sure, so on the old effect you could bind actions to mouse buttons, activate (obvious), close (obvious) and at least pull to current desktop, maybe others, but these are the ones I used. What pull to current desktop does: Say you have 6 virtual desktops, and you are currently on desktop 1, and start the effect: with that mouse button you could pull windows from desktops 2-6 to desktop 1, which is very handy and efficient to manage multiple windows at once, e.g. if you want to pull a code editor and a browser with documentation quickly to the same virtual desktop -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
