Hi.

Thanks for reply. Unfortunately, the described workaround did not work. Perhaps
i did something wrong. Nonetheless, in my opinion, if there is a possibility to
install and launch KDE applications under GNOME, for instance, they should
behave as expected. Perhaps, insufficient depending packages installed. This is
clearly a bug and a good candidate for further investigation :-)

I specified the file in "URL" field that causes Krita to silently quit.
It was created in 2.9.9 git 22f7b3b, and the issue persists in 2.9.10 git
5f2f2b0.
Other .kra files are loaded fine.
It can be related to "Clone" or "Fill" layers which I used for the first time.
I'd bet it has something to do with Fill one, because I remember loading the
picture with Clone layers yesterday, while with the Fill layers I only saved
and not loaded the picture until today.
I specified the issue as Critical, because it really causes to lose data,
though in my case I fortunately made an export to one-layer .png file prior to
closing Krita yesterday, and can continue work from there.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Download file from the URL specified
2. Run Krita, click File->Open... and select the file from previous step

Actual Results:  
Krita silently quits

Expected Results:  
I expect it to load the image so I can continue the work

Hi there. 

I tried removing the thumbnails-digikam.db file, and DigiKam did not re-create
the missing thumbnails. 

I did notice that DigiKam 5.0.0 makes the thumbnails properly. 
I encoded all the extra metadata into my images directly, so I am going to
start with a clean database on DK 5.0.0

Like I said, Arch is moving away from QT4, so things using it are going to
start breaking. I'll just use DK 5.0.0 from git until it's a stable package in
Arch.

OK, I think I am able to reproduce the bug. Can you confirm the following: If a
search fails, i.e. returns no or wrong results, deleting the corresponding
search folder breaks the folder tree view. The folder tree view can only be
restored by restarting kmail.

KDE4 does allow you to set the notification volume in systemsettings (the fix
for this bug report disabled it by default because it forced the volume to
100%, its default setting).
You can enable it again though and set a lower volume.

In KF5, this option has been removed.

So it is related to KF5 (not Qt5) and should be reported separately I think, as
this bug report was about KDE4.

As mentioned already, that's what happens with the vlc backend and is
apparently a bug/missing feature in VLC (2.2.x) itself, see Bug#345651 .

It works as expected with the gstreamer backend here (on openSUSE), KMix's
event slider does correctly regulate KDE's notification sounds in KDE4 and
Plasma5.

Unfortunately that event volume control is not available in Plasma5's new
volume control applet AFAIK, and the separate application volume controls are
only available in the applet's settings, not the popup, but that's again
unrelated to this bug report...

It does seem to be fixed, it works as expected here in openSUSE, as I wrote
already.

Sum up:
- kwin has a proper idea of the screen geometries
- not even restarting the compositor (complete rebuild of GL context) "fixes"
it
- switching framebuffers (VT2 and back) works

Smells a lot like an X11 driver issue (which only paints the cursor into the
framebuffer, but not actual X11)

- What's the state when just suspending the compositor - is the screen black as
well?
- What if you even "kwin_x11 --replace &"
- Does this affect all screens or only the displayport one?

No, that works fine.

Fine.

Seems like it's only that screen (an Eizo).
Neither the HDMI one nor the DVI one show that behaviour.

I think the Eizo Monitor uses DP 1.2, it's giving me a headache from time to
time anyway (i.e. the DP Connection is cut off when switching off the screen,
which is why I'm seeing this even when just leaving for 20mins). Don't know if
that is the reason, but I will try with the Dell screen which I would have to
switch from HDMI to Displayport, though. For that one I can switch DP 1.2 on
and off.

Thanks for the report!

Unfortunately I do not have a scanner that supports duplex scanning and can not
test properly. 

Does simplescan or scan2pdf work with duplex scanning?

I would like to help, but it might require that you compile libksane and
skanlite. Are you up to that?

Strings that are separated into multiple parts don't work on Windows
together with QStringLiteral as the first string is interpreted as a
wide (16bit) string, and the second one as a narrow (8bit) string. 
(Copy pasted from Patrick Spendrin's RRs)

This fails:
QStringLiteral("Foo"   "Baar"); 
and could be replaced with QLatin1String()

This fails also but can not be replaced with QLatin1String as it does not take
.arg()
QStringLiteral("Foo %1" "Baar").arg("Foo");
Here the strings would have to be joined

We have had some breakage on Windows when Clazy fixes have been committed...

Clazy is a great tool. Keep up the good work :)

I have tried kmix of course- Firstly the slider pops up only during the short
bling and is hard to catch. Even when I catch it and have the 0.5s time to
adjust it, the volume will still be 100% at next beep.

I'm an artist and depend on KDE.  I have a novice understanding of computer

Then something is not working as designed. Event sounds should have a static
slider that is always present.

If this slider is not there, then something has likely changed in the code.

If it is there but your event sound still appears and disappears super quickly
then the application generating it is likely not tagging it properly as being
an event sound and should be fixed.

You should try and run "pacmd list-sink-inputs" while the sound is playing
(might be hard to catch!) and you can inspect the proplist there to see what
it's media.role property is. If it's not "event" then the app generating it (or
it's event sound library) needs to be fixed.

Plasma 5.5.3 did not make any difference for me, the same behaviour is there. 

Perhaps it has something to do with the graphics drivers? I am on a laptop with
Intel HD 4000 graphics.

clazy has an msvc-compat compat option:
export CLAZY_EXTRA_OPTIONS="qstring-uneeded-heap-allocations-msvc-compat"

which will honour those cases.

I'll turn on msvc-compat by default, and introduce a no-msvc-compat option

"So I logged into tty1 and killed the other kwin_x11 of them 2 processes. This
time when I came back to Plasma on tty7 it was still frozen so I had to kill
the other kwin-x11 process as well and start a new one in Plasma, then it
unfroze. This means only one of kwin_x11 processes is responsible for Plasma
freeze. Unfortunately I can't remember which of them 2 was the buggy one (but I
think the second one with higher ID number)."


Assuming bug #353428 - check whether one of the kwin processes is stopped and
there's a drkonqi process holding it.

The initial problem is the kwin crash, but we don't know for which reason it
occurs.
If you can, you can gdb into the stopped process and obtain a backtrace this
way, getting us an idea why it crashed.

When left mouse is pressed on contact applet in tray, cursor focus is set to
"Search Contact" editbox, so you can immediately start typing.
But when shortcut is set to activate contact applet, you have to press tab key
to set focus to editbox.
I think it's small thing, but nice feature to have ability to search right
after shortcut key is pressed.

And of course I am using KTP 15.12 with Plasma 5.5.2

You need to get the sources of plasma-desktop, apply the patch (patch -p1 <
path/to/patch.diff) and rebuild at least kcms/kfontinst.

If you've no experience with compilation, you can ask your distro to pre-pick
the patch (ask implies the answer may be "no")
There's no schedule on when this patch hits downstream, sorry. It's not even
applied upstream yet.

This is expected behavior. Killing the process is not allowed. Next time just
do loginctl unlock-sessions.

this is also expected as the parent is ksmserver - the session manager.

There is unfortunately not much we can do now. All we know is something went
wrong. What it was is no longer possible to see as you killed the processes and
restarted the system. If it happens again, please try to get a backtrace of
badly behaving applications.

Meaning msvc-compat is the default and if you don't want it you should:

I noticed a while ago ( two months ) that DigiKam did not mark the video clips
with the usual "Filmstrip" effect. Now ( 2016-01 ) the thumbnails are just not
produced at all. 


Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Save film clips in a directory
2. Point DigiKam at the directory
3. Watch the mplayer process chew away at the clips for a while
4. No update on the thumbnails in the icons

Actual Results:  
Icons are not converted into thumbnails of the clips.

Expected Results:  
Thumbnails, with the usual filmstrip effects

I have configured the top-right screen corner to lock the screen if I move my
mouse into it, and also configured Meta+L to lock the screen. I was shoving my
mouse pointer into the top right corner of the screen and nothing was
happening, so I pressed Meta+L, but still nothing happened.

When I returned from my meeting, the screens were black, with just a mouse
pointer. I could switch to VT2 with Ctrl+Alt+F2, so I did so and ran top. kwin
was using 100% CPU so I killed it, and switched back to VT1. This brought my
desktop back, but of course kwin was not running and also, I could not click on
anything. When I tried to rerun kwin from VT2, I again experienced black
screens on VT1. I then noticed on VT2 that the screen lock greeter was still
running. I attempted to kill this but it respawned. I then attempted to kill
its parent, which killed my KDE session. After I then logged in, my new KDE
session was somehow broken, so I had to reboot, and then things worked again.

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:

I was running toggl and by the time I returned from my meeting, it had raised a
popup - that could be relevant. Also, there was an error message printed from
kwin when I restarted it, mentioning KWayland - not sure if that is relevant -
I am not running Wayland.

I'm guessing this is some kind of race condition because locking normally
works.

I have a tex file "prueba.tex" compiled to pdf using synctex.

If I open the file with:

$okular --unique file:/home/luisfe/prueba.pdf#src:60/home/luisfe/prueba.tex

Okular opens the file in the desired destination. However, if the file
prueba.pdf is already open, the previous command does  does not update the
position of okular in the file.

$okular --unique file:/home/luisfe/prueba.pdf#src:90/home/luisfe/prueba.tex

The viewer stays in the same position

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. open a pdf file complied from tex with synctex information
2. try to move the file to a new destination from the command line/kile/gvim

Actual Results:  
The position of the file is not updated

Expected Results:  
Okular should move the view to a new destination

Compiled from sources, okular version 1.0.0 using kde applications 15.12.0

ffmpegthumbs package is installed. 
Dolphin is creating the thumbnails on demand, as I was watching it read the
files and pop the thumbnails in over time. 

I'm thinking that this may be more of an Arch issue, as Arch is moving over to
QT5, and digikam used to work until a recent system upgrade. 

I am now installing DigiKam 5.0.0 from git.

DK has a dedicated DB file named thumbnails-digikam.db.

Remove or rename it (it's safe) and restart DK. It's safe : DB file only
contain wavelets compressed files, no other data.

The event slider is there Ok, but doesn't affect the kmail "mail-notify" sound
at all.

It is not going under the "event" label. Kmail will have it's own label during
the sound event. Might have something to do with the mess with Qt5 in FC23 at
the moment? So are you telling me that this has nothing to do with knotify and
should be reported to the kmail guys instead?

Thanks - I just installed it.  This will at least allow me to view the fonts
correctly.  I can use this in conjunction with Font Management in the Plasma 5
settings to sort them.
