[Discover] [Bug 423723] Subjectively speaking, Discover takes too long to be useful after it starts up
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=423723 --- Comment #2 from Michael --- Okay, what do I mean by "useful"? I mean that Discover is in a waiting state when it appears, always. How long that waiting state is, is variable. I boot my laptop. 3 minutes after the update notifier appears in the system tray, I click on the update notifier icon and Discover launches. A 27 seconds wait ensues, where Discover says "Fetching updates...". Yet my computer had just finished the fetching updates process a few minutes before. Why wait in this instance? Instead of clicking the "Update All" button at the top of Discover, I close the app. I click the update notifier once again to measure the wait. Discover launches. It takes 5 seconds of looking at the "Fetching updates..." text before I can do something. Every time I launch Discover regularly from the Kickoff menu on my SSD-backed system, Discover takes 5 seconds to display "Loading" with the spinning arrow before I could do anything. On the other hand, I launch Muon and all the packages appeared instantly when the GUI showed up. My point is that the variable waiting aspect of Discover makes me not want to reach for it, even though it is an excellently engineered piece of software in every other respect. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

After entering a location to search for (e.g., "olympia"), the "Search" button is not enabled. It turns out that weather (a) reporting source(s) need to be selected, using the unlabeled "flag"-icon button. Providing a label on the "flag" button, either directly, or at the least via a tool-tip when hovering over the button, would be useful. Additionally, providing some basic instructions up front (e.g., in place of the list of locations that will appear, once a successful search has occurred) would be helpful. Finally, when selecting data sources from the menu that appears when the "flag" button is clicked, the menu immediately disappears. I personally have no idea which sources might include my location, so I just selected them all. As the list shows checkboxes, it seemed reasonable to me that I could just click all of them, and then dismiss the list. Instead, I have to click the flag, click a checkbox, click the flag again, click another checkbox, and so on. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=423600 --- Comment #7 from akb825 --- To provide a bit more info, the example numbers I used were for my laptop. I also have a desktop with 4k monitors, but the specific DPI settings are a bit different: I have the KDE set to use 120 DPI, but the default for XOrg (when not setting the -dpi option for ServerArguments in the SDDM config) appears to be 192. As a result, the Plasma desktop and panel items are actually *larger* on the second login, as opposed to smaller on the laptop. In both cases, the default XOrg DPI is different (96 for laptop, 192 for desktop) and on the second login Plasma's DPI scale appears to match XOrg's DPI. This is why I believe that Plasma is inheriting the XOrg DPI value on the second login rather than respecting the KDE setting. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[krita] [Bug 423853] New: Fill with opacity actions (both FG & BG), do not yield the specified opacity
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=423853 Bug ID: 423853 Summary: Fill with opacity actions (both FG & BG), do not yield the specified opacity Product: krita Version: 4.3.0 Platform: MS Windows OS: Microsoft Windows Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: Tools Assignee: krita-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: elk...@yahoo.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY The actions 'Fill with Foreground Color (Opacity)' and 'Fill with Background Color (Opacity)' do not yield the specified opacity. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Select the the Quick Brush: Basic-1, make it's size fairly large so it will be easy to sample. set it's opacity to 50% and draw a stroke on an empty transparent layer. 2. Use the Eyedropper tool set to 'Sample Current Layer' and sample the stroke. As expected it's alpha will be roughly 50% (49.8039%) 3. Make a selection on an empty part of the same layer. Make sure your opacity is set to 50%, each tool remembers it's opacity independently. Invoke Fill with Foreground Color (Opacity); it's default shortcut is Ctrl+Shift+Backspace. OBSERVED RESULT Use the eyedropper to sample the fill. Note the alpha is 24.7059% EXPECTED RESULT The alpha should be roughly 50% (49.8039%) The issue also effects these actions in eraser mode 1. On a transparent layer, make a selection in an empty area, and fill it with a 100% opaque color. 2. Press the 'e' key to toggle on eraser mode, set tool opacity to 50% 3. Invoke one of the fill with opacity actions. 4. Use the Eyedropper tool set to 'Sample Current Layer' to sample the result and you will get an alpha of 75.2941%. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=423600 --- Comment #6 from akb825 --- > I'm not convinced that SDDM is involved at all, but your symptoms match a > description of not using Qt scaling. I believe that the SDDM settings are merely the trigger for the bug in Plasma. The DPI settings for XOrg being mismatched from KDE cause the scaling for Plasma to be incorrect on the second launch/login. > If you set PLASMA_USE_QT_SCALING=1 in the environment when plasma starts up, > does the problem disappear? No, the problem persists. I can tell that some of the scaling behavior is different because the panel height and context menu icons are doubled in size. The panel height and icon size remain consistent between logging out and logging back in, but the text is 1/2 the size after the second login. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

This gives one-click access to those folders. This region needs to be resizeable and the max resize width should be much greater. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open any KDE program that uses the KDE folder dialog (such as Dolphin's "Moveto /Copy to..." choices) and begin moving or copying something to a folder so that you're prompted about which folder to work with. 2. Notice that the pinned or bookmarked folders on the left are in an area which cannot be resized. Try dragging the area where one expects to find a resizeable border. OBSERVED RESULT Instead one ends up moving the panel. EXPECTED RESULT A resizeable border line appears and allows one to resize the bookmark/pinned-folder area to whatever width the user desires. This width is stored (perhaps as a percentage of panel width) and drawn that way by default on subsequent panel openings. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=423804 --- Comment #3 from Nate Graham --- We've had multiple requests to add this to Spectacle, so... maybe? However since it would be using a compositor feature, Spectacle could be just one of multiple potential entry points I suppose. GNOME shell has a global keyboard shortcut to start recording the whole screen which I quite like. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[frameworks-kio] [Bug 406810] Dolphin and Konqueror consume a lot of CPU when Plasma Vault or encfs directory is open for a while
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=406810 --- Comment #26 from Nate Graham --- Thanks for the detailed investigation! That's very helpful. I don't think it's Kubuntu-specific though; I was experiencing it in the past on openSUSE Tumbleweed, and I'm still using that OS but now it's gone for me. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[frameworks-kio] [Bug 406810] Dolphin and Konqueror consume a lot of CPU when Plasma Vault or encfs directory is open for a while
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=406810 --- Comment #25 from Henning --- What I tried since the last post: I found out that on an identically installation (not a clone) on my notebook with a copy of the encfs-folders the problem did not exist. On the PC with the dolphin-encfs-problem ... - I created a new user: no solution - I created a new encfs-folder: no solution - I removed all non-standard mount options from the drives: no solution - I copied the complete system from the notebook to the PC (and made it boot again): no solution!!! - I installed SpaceFM (small, few dependencies, but I like dolphin much more): anything working correct Additionally I found out ... - that the problem only exists with programs creating tmp/bak/swp-files like kate/kwrite and libreoffice - that the cpu-load normalizes when changing to another directory, but it goes back to 100% on one core when one goes back to the directory of the files - that the cpu-load normalizes when completely deleting the file - that the cpu-load normalizes after putting the file to the waste bin and restoring it The problem is reproducible with the live usb drive with Kubuntu 20.04.0. Trying live usb drives with "neon-user-20200702-1117" and "openSUSE-Leap-15.2-KDE-Live-x86_64-Build31.105-Media" act as expected. This means that it is a Kubuntu 20.04.0 problem which appears only on some computers. Hence this are the data of my computers: PC with the problem: i7-3930K, X79 Express chipset, 64 GB RAM, AMD RX580 GPU Notebook: i5-4200U, ??? chipset, 12 GB RAM, integrated Intel GPU used, additional GeForce GT 750M not used but driver installed Finally this probably means that I'm in the wrong forum as it is Kubuntu-specific. Sorry! -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[kwin] [Bug 423817] KWin/KDE freezes with Steam Proton
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=423817 --- Comment #2 from and_...@hotmail.com --- I have tried to update to the Nvidia beta drivers (450.1) and the problem still persists (I was previously using the stable 440 drivers). This is very likely a bug in how KWin handles Wine window buffers. Is there something I can do to try to fix this bug? Changing the backend of the compositor (XRender or OpenGL) has no effect. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
