[plasma-nm] [Bug 456110] New: (Feature Request) Improve the "Need to Sign Into Wifi" Error Message when System Boots
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=456110 Bug ID: 456110 Summary: (Feature Request) Improve the "Need to Sign Into Wifi" Error Message when System Boots Product: plasma-nm Version: 5.24.5 Platform: Manjaro OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: jgrul...@redhat.com Reporter: cachand...@runbox.com Target Milestone: --- Created attachment 150241 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=150241=edit A screenshot of the error message shown when the device attempts and fails to reconnect to a public wifi network, SUMMARY When a user's device boots up, if it attempts to automatically reconnect to to a public wifi network where "Sign In" authentication is required via the browser (i.e. hotel wifi), then the user will be given an obscure and unintuitive error message. This feature request proposes a solution that is more user friendly. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Connect to a public wifi network where "Sign In" authentication is required. 2. Reboot the device. 3. (a) As far as I know, re-authentication will probably not be necessary immediately, but once the user's current wifi session has been ended, then this issue can be reproduced. 3. (b) After rebooting, the following error message will present itself. OBSERVED RESULT *** "Server Authentication - KDE Daemon" "The server failed the authenticity check (location.services.mozilla.com). The host name did not match any of the valid hosts for this certificate" "Details" "Continue" "Cancel" *** This dialog prompt is not very intuitive, and will likely lead a user to believe that something else has gone wrong on their system. However, after performing "Sign In" authentication to the public wifi network (typically by going to the "Sign In" IP address, since the user is rarely redirected to the page automatically), the error message goes away until the user's current session is "signed out" once more. PROPOSED RESULT As one possible solution (although there are numerous others that would be more user friendly than the current popup), this feature request suggests that KDE adopt a system similar to Android's UI, in which a message similar to this pops up. *** "Sign into Wi-Fi Network" "The network you're connecting to requires you to sign in through your browser first." "Don't Sign In" "Open Browser" *** SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Operating System: Manjaro Linux KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.95.0 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION Note: I am not certain that this is supposed to be under the "plasma-nm" category, but it seemed to be the closest one, since this feature request is "network" and "plasma" related. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[frameworks-baloo] [Bug 456108] New: baloo reindexes files with date of 0 or prior to UNIX epoch on every restart
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=456108 Bug ID: 456108 Summary: baloo reindexes files with date of 0 or prior to UNIX epoch on every restart Product: frameworks-baloo Version: 5.94.0 Platform: Fedora RPMs OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: baloo-bugs-n...@kde.org Reporter: skierp...@gmail.com Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY Baloo kept reindexing 12 of my files every time I enable/disable it or run `balooctl check`. All 12 files had weird modification times according to `ls -l` and `stat`, either: > Modify: 1969-12-31 16:00:00.0 -0800 > Modify: 1903-08-23 02:36:30.0 -0800 `balooshow` reports these times as either: > Mtime: 0 1969-12-31T16:00:00 > Mtime: 2200842286 2039-09-28T10:04:46 STEPS TO REPRODUCE 0. Enable baloo from System Settings > File Search 1. Run `balooctl monitor &` 2. Make a file with mtime of 0 in the Unix epoch e.g. `touch -m --date=1970-01-01T00:00:00Z $HOME/file_from_epoch.txt`; make a file with a mtime prior to that, e.g. `touch -m --date=19420102 $HOME/file_from_1942.txt` 3. Run `balooctl check` 4. Run `balooctl check` 5. Run `balooshow $HOME/file_from_epoch.txt $HOME/file_from_1942.txt` OBSERVED RESULT `balooctl monitor` reports > Started search for unindexed files > Checking for unindexed files > Indexing file content > Indexing: /home/spage//file_from_epoch.txt: Ok > Indexing: /home/spage//file_from_1942.txt: Ok `balooshow` reports > c8d80028 40 51416 /home/spage/file_from_epoch.txt >Mtime: 0 1969-12-31T16:00:00 >Ctime: 1656472422 2022-06-28T20:13:42 > c8ce0028 40 51406 /home/spage/file_from_1942.txt >Mtime: 3411469696 2078-02-07T06:28:16 >Ctime: 1656466455 2022-06-28T18:34:15 EXPECTED RESULT These files have arguably weird modification times, but they aren't changing, so baloorunner/baloo_file should not reindex them. Maybe baloo should handle file modification dates earlier than the start of the UNIX epoch, since my NTFS and BTRFS filesystems seem to allow them. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.94.0 Qt Version: 5.13.3 on Wayland ADDITIONAL INFORMATION This sounds like bug 438074 but according to its reporter "mtime and ctime match in both files". My first file is 0 seconds in the Unix epoch on January 1 1970 (shown in my timezone) and `balooshow` agrees with the file system. But for modification times before that, `balooshow` thinks the date is in the future. Maybe baloorunner thinks all these odd modification times are in the future so hands the file off for reindexing; and/or something in baloo_file_extractor or kfilemetadata thinks its representation of the modification time is different than the modification time it gets from the file system, so it keeps reindexing. Perhaps if the file information from baloo_file_extractor is the same as the entry already in baloo's DB, baloo should not perform any update. Workaround: I used, for example, `touch -m --date=20210709 path/to/file` to set normal modification dates to these files within the UNIX epoch, and after one final reindex baloo no longer reindexes them. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[krita] [Bug 455349] Resize canvas messes up animated transform mask
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455349 Eoin O'Neill changed: What|Removed |Added CC||eoinoneill1...@gmail.com --- Comment #4 from Eoin O'Neill --- (In reply to Ahab Greybeard from comment #2) > If possible, I'd like this new behaviour to be an option, maybe a 'hidden' > option in kritarc (to avoid the 'option forest' problem). An option might be possible here, but I think I'd prefer to handle that on the next version since we're currently in string freeze. As much as an option forest is a problem, I'm also not sure about burying too many features within the config files as they would still need to be supported and tested, which makes that process more difficult. I don't understand your use-case all that well, and I'm not sure why canvas resizing should cause that much slowdown (since it's basically just math -- the cache reloading would take most of the time but it shouldn't hang the program.) but if you don't mind submitting a new bug report (preferably as wishlist) with an image illustrating the slowdown, that would help. I think we could always treat it as a checkbox option in the crop tool option docker, but at the very least it should apply to all transformation masks (including non-animated) for the sake of consistency. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[Active Window Control] [Bug 456106] New: Problem with application using drawing pen
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=456106 Bug ID: 456106 Summary: Problem with application using drawing pen Product: Active Window Control Version: unspecified Platform: Microsoft Windows OS: Microsoft Windows Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: General Assignee: zrenf...@gmail.com Reporter: leshe...@allegheny.edu CC: plasma-b...@kde.org Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY I have not had any issues with the stylus in any other application, and it works perfectly well everywhere else, but in Krita, the place where it is drawing is a significant distance up and to the left of where the stylus is on the screen. This only happens when it is on the canvas. The settings, brush menu, etc. work in sync with the stylus. I also have no issue using a mouse, my finger or trackpad. OBSERVED RESULT The brush draws in the wrong location and lags. EXPECTED RESULT For the brush to draw where I am touching the screen and the canvas to change while I am working on it without significant delay. SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Windows: I have a Dell Inspiron 14 7425 2 in 1. I am using a PN5122W Stylus 5.0.6 I added a video showing that the stylus works on all the other places except for the canvas part of krita. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455328 --- Comment #12 from Alexey Chernyak --- (In reply to Fushan Wen from comment #11) > Did you try the two commits? They are included in 5.25.2. I now have upgraded to 5.25.2. It looks like this patch has also made it into 5.25.2 - so I didn't have to explicitly apply it. On first wakeup - taskbar disappeared and desktop icons moved to another monitor.. On second wakeup - taskbar still gone, desktop icons disappeared, and one of monitor wallpapers disappeared, has just black background now. No KCrash Handler dialogs. [kwin] [Bug 455523] Option to not blur the wallpaper
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=455523 --- Comment #6 from Maximilian Böhm --- Pretty sad. Thank you Niklas for your trying. I have answered them in the MR thread: https://invent.kde.org/plasma/kwin/-/merge_requests/2579#9c044e8533c5c3fc938fc46dd0c805ea37d5271d @Guilherme: Wrong assumption about user’s intent. I like most of the blur elements of the UI, just not a blurred wallpaper where I could see my wallpaper before for a decade and half. To see my plain wallpaper behind just everyday window overviews and various task managers makes my desktop more personal. Blurring causes a more sterile look. @Vlad Not to be rude, but that sounds like the typical Gnome approach… There was no wallpaper blurring since 2008 in Kwin. You don’t see this in Gnome‘s or macOS’s related window overviews either, but it’s just the new standard out of nowhere now for Plasma without an option for turning it off. It made your desktop more personal when you could see your plain wallpaper throughout various window management effects. I’m pretty sad about this decision. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
[Spectacle] [Bug 456100] New: When taking a second screenshot after saving a first one, Spectacle sometimes falsely claims to have saved the file
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=456100 Bug ID: 456100 Summary: When taking a second screenshot after saving a first one, Spectacle sometimes falsely claims to have saved the file Product: Spectacle Version: 22.04.2 Platform: Archlinux Packages OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: General Assignee: m...@baloneygeek.com Reporter: adam.m.fontenot+...@gmail.com CC: k...@david-redondo.de Target Milestone: --- SUMMARY Saving a screenshot in Spectacle results in a confirmation message that says something like "The screenshot was saved as Screenshot_date_time.png". This message remains visible even if you take a new screenshot, which misleadingly suggests that the new screenshot has also been saved. I have accidentally lost work while taking a series of screenshots because I thought that a screenshot was saved when it was not. This seems to happen when Spectacle is activated with a shortcut, but not when clicking the "Take a New Screenshot" button in the Spectacle window. In the example below, I have the Print Screen key bound to "launch Spectacle" under Shortcuts in System Settings. When pressed, this key launches spectacle (if it is not launched already) and immediately takes a screenshot. STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Activate Spectacle with an activation key (e.g. Print Screen). Take a screenshot and save it to disk with the Save As button. 2. Activate Spectacle with an activation key again. 3. Close Spectacle by clicking the button on the window frame. OBSERVED RESULT After saving the screenshot to disk in step 1, a message appears in the spectacle window indicating that the file has been saved. When activating Spectacle again, because the window is already open a new screenshot is taken immediately. When this happens, the message indicating that the (previous) file was saved does not go away from the window. When closing Spectacle immediately, there is no warning that the file is unsaved, making it more likely that the user will lose work if they trust the message. EXPECTED RESULT When activating Spectacle when the window is already open, I expect the behavior to be the same as when clicking "Take a New Screenshot". In other words, Spectacle should remove the message stating that the file is saved when a new screenshot is taken. It might also come from the color picker tool itself: it has tool options that can be altered. A non default setup might sample a larger area; or just a percent of the area... It might also come from the fact you are accidentally in softproofing mode CMYK; an accidental Ctrl+Y keyboard press, trying to do the "Redo" combination many other software are using... If it's slower than that because the message appears later, then the prompt is not automatically shown. For the non-fingerprint case, it is probably never shown, but I didn't notice that since I'm using fingerprint auth. So really, the root cause is still an issue, because we make showing the password prompt conditional based on some PAM thing, rather than just always doing it. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.

[plasmashell] [Bug 456097] New: Removing virtual desktop makes Icons-Only Task Manager "forget" open windows
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=456097 Bug ID: 456097 Summary: Removing virtual desktop makes Icons-Only Task Manager "forget" open windows Product: plasmashell Version: 5.25.2 Platform: Archlinux Packages OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: Task Manager and Icons-Only Task Manager Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org Reporter: justwanttoreporta...@byom.de Target Milestone: 1.0 Created attachment 150235 --> https://bugs.kde.org/attachment.cgi?id=150235=edit Screenshot showing the missing tasks in the Icons-Only Task Manager SUMMARY *** The "new" window-overview effect (you know what I mean, the macOS-like Mission Control thingie) allows me to add and remove virtual desktops on the fly. When removing a virtual desktop, the Icons-Only Task Manager on another desktop "forgets" its open windows and simply displays nothing. As a workaround, you can still switch tasks using the Alt-Tab task switcher. *** STEPS TO REPRODUCE 1. Open window overview with Super+W 2. Make sure that there is only one virtual desktop 3. Now, add another two virtual desktops using the large plus icon at the top of the window overview effect 4. You should now have three virtual desktops called Desktop 1 to Desktop 3; go ahead and open some windows/tasks on each of them! 5. Go to Desktop 1 and open the window overview again 6. Delete the virtual desktop in the middle, called Desktop 2 7. Go to Desktop 3 and observe that the Icons-Only Task Manager displays nothing although there are windows/tasks open on that desktop! OBSERVED RESULT None or not all tasks are shown in the Icons-Only Task Manager on Desktop 3 (see attachment for visual explanation) EXPECTED RESULT All of the previous and the newly added tasks from Desktop 2 are shown on the Icons-Only Task Manager on Desktop 3 SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS Linux/KDE Plasma: Arch Linux, Kernel 5.18.7-arch1-1 (64-bit), X11 KDE Plasma Version: 5.25.2 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.95.0 Qt Version: 5.15.5 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION - tested on X11, not tested on Wayland - panel height 28px - 4k screen resolution -- You are receiving this mail because: You are watching all bug changes.
