https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=486567

Bug ID: 486567
Summary: Bookmarks Disappear after te-naming or moving pdf
file.
Classification: Applications
   Product: okular
   Version: 23.08.1
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: critical
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: okular-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: larrywbrad...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

***

https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Debugging/How_to_create_useful_crash_reports
***

SUMMARY
All bookmarks for a particular pdf are lost if: (1) File is renamed; (2) file
is moved to another folder or directory.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Add a bookmark and save file.
2. Change filename.
3. Re-open file and all bookmarks have disappeared.

OBSERVED RESULT
Bookmarks disappear after re-naming pdf file.

EXPECTED RESULT
Expect that bookmarks would not disappear after changing the name of the file,
or after moving the file to another directory or folder. This is a critical
problem that renders this otherwise great piece of software almost useless.

I have multiple pinned reference images placed on the canvas area. When I move
one around it leaves small traces (or outlines) of the image border on the
canvas. Also, some of the pinned images (when moved about) are behind other
images. Normally you should select one, and it will be the top image - on top
of the other images, not behind them.

Hi,
I Last shot photos on 9/24/22. Was using kstars 3.6.1. Images display
normally in kstars, but open as greyscale in GIMP. When I open them with
Sirilk 1.03, they open as B (really greyscale). However, just checking the
debayer box before opening leads to a full color image. Images then stack
correctly.

OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED

 Component: general
  Assignee: okular-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: larrywbrad...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
***
Hovering over a truncated bookmark (actually, ANY bookmark) pops up a window
that shows me File Properties. It seems like hovering over a truncated bookmark
should show me the complete name of the bookmark. I have 20 bookmarks in one
file; why would I want to see the File Properties pop up when I hover over each
bookmark? Loved Okular, but this has me baffleed.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Create bookmark.
2. Hover cursor over bookmark.

OBSERVED RESULT
Hovering over a bookmark results in the File Properties popping up.

EXPECTED RESULT
Hovering over a bookmark should show the full name of the bookmark, and ONLY
the name of the bookmark. Why would I want to see File Properties when I hover
over a bookmark?

The initial start values for the parameters seem to block the algorithm to
converge to the proper solution. Since you have this upside-down parabola like
data, just set the start value for the second parameter, i.e. for c1 to -1 and
try to re-fit again. You get the proper fit to your data with it.

Does it also work for you with c1 = -1?

Sorry, minor correct to last e-mail:  if I change C2 to -1 I get an upside down
parabola for the best fit, but the values are in the -2500 range instead of 12
and do not fit my data.

Changing C1 to -1 changes the best fit curve very little.

[okular] [Bug 435582] New: Moving a bookmarked pdf file from one folder to another deletes all bookmarks

2021-04-10 Thread Larry Bradley
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=435582

Bug ID: 435582
Summary: Moving a bookmarked pdf file from one folder to
another deletes all bookmarks
   Product: okular
   Version: 20.12.3
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: okular-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: larrywbrad...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
After heavily bookmarking a pdf, moved the file to another folder, then opened
the file to discover that the bookmarks were all wiped away.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Bookmark pdf.
2. Save pdf.
3. Move pdf to another folder.

OBSERVED RESULT
Bookmarks disappeared after moving pdf to another folder. Replicable, with the
same result each time a bookmarked pdf is moved from one folder to another.

EXPECTED RESULT
Expect bookmarks to by "sticky." Puzzling that bookmarks disappear simply
because you move the pdf file from one folder to another. It this is not an
Okular programming issue, my apologies in advance.

Albert, my apologies. I did not see the button, it is in a rather obscure
place. Perhaps it could be moved and placed under the Bookmarks icon in the
menu bar on the left. Sorry if I offended. I re-read my submission and did not
find anything that I thought should have offended anyone, but my apologies
nevertheless. As for multiple issues, those I listed seemed to be related and I
was only trying to be thorough, as opposed to not giving sufficient detail. I
am not a programmer, so it's a bit more difficult to describe an issue. As for
being more polite because someone is doing something for me for free, I try not
to offend whether I get something for free or I pay for it. Thank you for
Okular, it really is a great program, free or not. And thanks for the reply.
Sorry to have bothered you.

[okular] [Bug 432567] New: Bookmarks in Navigation View are a mess

2021-02-06 Thread Larry Bradley
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=432567

Bug ID: 432567
Summary: Bookmarks in Navigation View are a mess
   Product: okular
   Version: 1.10.1
  Platform: Ubuntu Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: okular-de...@kde.org
  Reporter: larrywbrad...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
When I have a single pdf file open and turn on the Navigation view, the
bookmarks list contains every pdf file I have ever bookmarked, not just the pdf
I currently have open. Further, the bookmarks are indexed by file location, not
just by the Title of the pdf file. Frankly, this renders the Navigation view
practically useless, as far as bookmarks are concerned.

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Open a pdf file.
2. Click on Settings, Show Navigation Panel.

OBSERVED RESULT
Every bookmark for every pdf file I have ever bookmarked is included in the
navigation panel. Worse, because the bookmark name consists of the entire
filepath, and nothing is chronological, it makes it difficult to find the
bookmarks for the currently-open file.

EXPECTED RESULT
First, I expect to see the bookmarks only for the currently-open file.
Second, I expect the bookmarks to be listed by file-name only, not by the file
path.
Third, as I have some long file paths often the title of the pdf cannot be
seen, and I cannot necessarily remember the title based on the bookmarks alone.

SOFTWARE/OS VERSIONS
Windows:
macOS:
Linux/KDE Plasma:
(available in About System)
KDE Plasma Version:
KDE Frameworks Version:
Qt Version:

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
I can see some value in having All bookmarked pdf's appear in the Navigation
panel, but only if they are listed by pdf title only, not by the entire file
path. Still, I would rather have the fixed state be one where only the
bookmarks of the currently-open pdf appear in the Navigation panel, or, if you
want to get "fancy," have an option for a) currently pdf only, or b) all pdf's.

[kate] [Bug 416117] Unusable split screen after modified file

2020-11-13 Thread Larry
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=416117

Unfortunately not. Please view the image uploaded 2020-10-30 12:07 UTC and
note that the menu bar has disappeared. Pressing "Ctrl-M" does not restore it
and pressing "Ctrl-Shift-R" does not remove the split condition. I have found
no way to resume editing without closing Kate.

I am a developer and may have many files open including JSON or log files.
Testing an application change without closing any files that might be modified
(user-error, perhaps) forces me to close all open files. I may have to save
unsaved files to /tmp if I don't know what changes have been made and not saved
because I can't see the contents and then open each, identify the original file
and diff them.

The problem does not seem to be related to the number of open files.

What OS did you test with? I have had this problem since Fedora 25 with fresh
OS installs and updates.

I just tried to recreate the sympton on a Fedora 31 server and Kate behaved as
expected, prompting me for action and no split window. This server has very
little customization in KDE, Plasma or Kate. Could some "preference" setting
be a contributor? If you identify configuration files that may affect this
feature, I can scrub and attach them to the case for your review to ascertain
the cause(s).

I understand why you never want to do something without the user knowing about
it. Especially when the user DOES mean to have them there. At the same time, I
feel like wanting them there is more of the edge case than the vase majority.
Would it be possible to remove, warn, potentially and prompt to leave the
spaces in (with an option to disable the warning in settings)? Then the
majority of users will get the expected experience, while edge case users can
still keep the customization of the naming?

> Can you explain why you think this should happen? What problem is it causing
> you? Bug reports that just describe a problem are usually more helpful than
> ones that propose a solution without explaining the problem.

Can you explain why you think this should happen?

There are a number of reasons that I feel it should happen:

1. Consistency with other file managers.
   - Nautilus, Thunar, Nemo, etc all prevent you from entering
a name with a trailing or leading white space.
2. Ease of use.
   - In most instances users do not mean to place a leading
or trailing white space when naming their directories or
 file names.
   - Saving files to samba, nfs, or sshfs file shares fail to
save when not quoted or escaped.
   - Output while in command line directory tree fails to
clearly show spaces when in such a directory.
3. Navigation from the command line.
   - Without quoting or escaping the space at the beginning or
end of the file or directory name, you may end up in an
 undesired location.
   - Allows for duplicate directory naming. For example,
"python stuff" and "python stuff " or " python stuff".
while this could easily be blamed on the user, it could
 also be prevented from happening.

What problem is it causing you?

I currently have an nfs share, a samba share, and an sshfs
share all connected to my Kubuntu machine. When trying to
transfer documents, it throws an error because the intened
destination was unable to be found (due to the space). While
it is easily fixed by removing the space, it could have been
avoided in the first place by stripping the leading/trailing
white spaces from the name of the file or directory.

Also, my son and wife use this computer, and tend to
inadvertently leave a trailing space after the name. Which
causes frustration for them.

(In reply to Nate Graham from comment #1)
> ...Bug reports that just describe a problem are usually more helpful than
> ones that propose a solution without explaining the problem.

I agree that fully understanding what is happening is helpful
for debugging. Having dealt with many bugs, myself, I also try
to prevent detail overloads. Hope this helps clarify what I
am experiencing.

SUMMARY
Solver fails. Multiple times with different iso and exposure times.
Captured FITs have full width rectangular area on green plane that is off
color.
Using Linux/kstars with Celestron AVX/Explore Scientific/AR127/Canon 70D.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Both vignetting and rectangular defect are enhanced by kstars view compared to
viewing in GIMP, Siril or fv5.5.
Vignetting is likely due to telescope.
However, full width rectangular area could be camera or kstars. Suspect kstars
because images taken before and since with camera do not show defect in RAW or
JPG files.

[plasmashell] [Bug 373427] Plasmashell hangs after some notifications

2016-12-08 Thread Larry
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=373427

Confirmed. Switching to a VT cleared whatever was holding things up.

I have seen other bugs related to xorg-x11-drv-nouveau (I have version
1.0.13-1.fc25.x86_64) that recommended removing the package to force X11 to use
a different driver; does this make sense? I tried it but KDE never completed
loading so I reinstalled it.

Is this an X11 driver issue or a KDE/KF5 issue?

[plasmashell] [Bug 373427] New: Plasmashell hangs after some notifications

OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED

tail -f /var/log/messages during test

I tried to burst a PDF from Dolphin and received an error message indicating
that pdftk wasn't installed. The messagebox remained and the desktop and
panels were unresponsive, a problem I've seen many times since installing
Fedora 25. Alt-F2 did bring up a command prompt and I checked the statuses of
all services registered with qdbus. Each command was executed and the output
timestamped with hour-minute-seconds that the output was generated.

The following 4 services had extended delays: org.freedesktop.Notifications,
com.canonical.Unity, org.kde.plasmashell and org.kde.StatusNotifierHost-19918.
I am attaching the output from the qdbus executions for each with tiemstamps.
The CPU was mostly idle during the failure. I performed a killall -u MuUser to
address this occurrence; sometimes there are several processes left after the
kill and I have to send signal 9.

Since installing Fedora 25, I've been plagued with random GUI hangs. The
Numlock button does not change the LED display and I can't even access the
TTY's. I tried several troubleshooting steps including disabling Search but it
still occurs.

I can resolve the problem if I SSH into the PC from another device and simply
remove ~/.cache/icon-cache.kcache. At that point, all of the "buffered" menus
and other acts I tried while the system appeared frozen start occurring.

[kdenlive] [Bug 363683] Kdenlive 16.04.1 does not permit Chroma Key

2016-06-18 Thread Larry Engel via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=363683

--- Comment #2 from Larry Engel <larryen...@justice.com> ---
I have been using Chroma Key for a long time. You place a "green" screen"
behind your subject when shooting with the camera. On the editor you must have
the option select a matching "green" in your front clip. The single color once
selected is replaced by a second background clip. In the Youtube.com tutorial
video under "alpha Manipulation" their is now a "blue screen" option that is
now missing. You could select any shade of blue or green. In 15.04.1 that
option is missing. There is a "select color" but no screens come up to select
blue or green. What it does is select all colors and your front clip subject
disappears and only the background is seen. I wonder why I cannot select blue
or green, now?

Right-click on a clip in the timeline.
Select "Add Effects", go to "Alpha Manipulation", and drop down to "Chroma Key"

[kdenlive] [Bug 363683] New: Kdenlive 16.04.1 does not permit Chroma Key

2016-05-29 Thread Larry Engel via KDE Bugzilla
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=363683

Bug ID: 363683
Summary: Kdenlive 16.04.1 does not permit Chroma Key
   Product: kdenlive
   Version: 16.04.0
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: UNCONFIRMED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Effects & Transitions
  Assignee: vpi...@kde.org
  Reporter: larryen...@justice.com

Chroma Key is a major part of video editing. It permits, for example, a
speaker to be placed in a scene. The scene on one track and the speaker video
before a blue or green screen in the background. One of the effects options
under the heading Alpha Manipulation should be "blue screen". Once the color
is selected here, blue or green the background is replaced by the scene in the
second video. A reporter may be in a studio, but appear to the viewer to be in
a war scene, a forest or the desert.

In Kdenlive 16.04.1 this option is not available. Chroma Key is not possible
likely because the option "blue screen" is not in the list. The "color
selection" option removes all colors causing the speaker to totally disappear.

While troubleshooting this issue, I came across the use of the shift key while
scrolling and Dolphin is now usable. I wasn't aware of this change in behavior
but it is interesting. I stil don't believe that it is a duplicate of the
other burg.
