[plasmashell] [Bug 492969] New: The width of the plasma panel can be changed gradually but the width of the icons in it can't

2024-09-11 Thread PK
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=492969

Bug ID: 492969
Summary: The width of the plasma panel can be changed gradually
but the width of the icons in it can't
Classification: Plasma
   Product: plasmashell
   Version: 6.1.4
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: Panel
  Assignee: plasma-b...@kde.org
  Reporter: pieterkristen...@gmail.com
CC: niccolo.venera...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: 1.0

I can change the width/height of the panel very gradually. But (in my
experience) the width of the application icons in it only changes in two big
steps and side effects of this behavior have to be compensated by the width of
the margins/padding. I would like it very much if the icons went along with the
scaling of the panel.
The current behavior, to me, feels not so elegant.
I saw bug https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=434324 but it seems to me it
isn't fixed.

A solution is being worked on. It's a little complicated but we'll figure it
out. I come back here when it is solved. That will be shortly.

[Discover] [Bug 492665] "Plasma Addons" moved to "Extra's" but old entry not removed

2024-09-05 Thread PK
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=492665

I started Discover with LANGUAGE=en_US and noticed that the base folder is
called "Plasma Addons" and that in this folder there is the subfolder "Plasma
Widgets". And that seems pretty good in my eyes.

Doesn't the solution of the problem lie with us then? We would be happy to
contribute.

[systemsettings] [Bug 492666] "Window Manager Switching Layouts" is very difficult to translate

2024-09-05 Thread PK
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=492666

Thank you. So kwin has "windows switchers" and they have them in different
layouts.
And "layout" wants to say something like "form".
We will let this sink in a while.
The word "layout" is not easy to translate...

[Discover] [Bug 492669] New: Plasma Addons

2024-09-04 Thread PK

  Target Milestone: ---

In the opening layout of Discover there is on the left side the item "Plasma
Addons", in this (kind of) folder we find all sorts of things for Plasma. One
of those thins is: (again!) Plasma Addons!
Only on this occasion Plasma Addons, in the humble eyes of the Dutch
translators, means "Plasma Widgets"...
The containing folder, we translated long time ago as "Plasma Extra's".

So in our translation there is the "folder" "Plasma Extra's" that contains the
"folder" "Plasma Widgets".
And not the "folder" "Plasma Addons" that contains the "folder" "Plasma
Addons".
In our opinion this is kind of important because this is one of the first
things you stumble upon as a new user.

In the file kwin/kwin._desktop_.po in the kf6 trunk there is now an entry
"Window Manager Switching Layouts". Can you give me some guidance as to what
this is supposed to mean?
- Is the "Window Manager" switched?
- Are there "Switching Layouts".
I find it realy difficult to translate this.

When I give in the Konsole of my Neon User edition "/bin/lookandfeelexplorer"
the program starts.
It is very clearly in a rough state. But that is understandable.

When I choose in this version "new theme" there appear some rules that I can
fill in. Such as "theme name"... I get that. But also "theme plugin name"...
What would I, as mere mortal, have to put there?
That seems a little difficult.
In my humble opinion.
Plasma 6 is great.

Imho they are always in the way. I don't need directions 100% of the time I use

top left section of the Discover ui behaves in this way. So apart from being
terribly redundant these popping up keyboard shortcuts in my opinion are at

Just now, for the first time on this machine, using kf6, Enter works in SDDM.

So I get this error message:

'/usr/share/applications/kde-mimeapps.list', which is also in package
neon-settings-2 0.4+p22.04+vstable+git20240125.1041"
I did a little experiment, in the konsole I did:
sudo mv /usr/share/applications/kde-mimeapps.list
/usr/share/applications/kde-mimeapps.list.old

Then I updated again with Discover.
It gave exactly the same error message:
"Error while installing package: trying to overwrite

The buttons "reboot", "shutdown" and "logout" of my application launcher (and

The bug occurs when I'm using Wayland as well when I'm using X11.

only there.

On my Neon Unstable box I get exactly the same list as you do. But still the
only relevant search result is Firefox flatpak. But because it's based on
Ubuntu imho there should be a snap package in the list and it's really strange
that the Neon-deb is not in the list.
The other search results are not at all helpful and not relevant.

SUMMARY
***
When I e.g. put "firefox" in the search field of Discover and hit Enter, it
finds 191 applications. In my opinion of which 189 really not relevant at all.
I would expect to see listed:
- Firefox (of the distro - Neon User) not listed
- Firefox snap - listed in Discover 5.27.10 but not in Neon Unstable
- Firefox flatpak - listed
- Firefox ESR - not listed at all.
I also tried with random other programs and the results where also almost all
the time not as expected.
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. put "firefox" in the search field of Discover
2. hit Enter

OBSERVED RESULT
Discover produces a rather long and bizarre line of results

EXPECTED RESULT
Discover shows relevant results of the query

Exactly the same happened to me a few days ago. I tried another icon for the
kicker-menu to see if that was also small and when I didn't like that I went
back to the previous one (not the one given by the distribution - neon
unstable).
Suddenly the kicker icon had the correct size again and it remained that way.

(K)Ubuntu has debuginfod starting with 22.10. See
https://ubuntu.com/server/docs/service-debuginfod

You will need to set the environment variable

export DEBUGINFOD_URLS="https://debuginfod.ubuntu.com";

- So gambled... I opened the konsole, pasted "export

Perhaps you know there is a workaround to hide the snap-folder

You make a file in your home-folder and call this file ".hidden". So this file

[plasmashell] [Bug 477145] Consider making "Dodge windows" only disappear when touched by the active window, not any window

2023-11-25 Thread PK
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=477145

I am using/playing with the "dodge windows" option that is now available. It
"dodges" all windows.
I am happy with this solution. I would like to be able to make it dodge for
active windows only, but if that doesn't happen it is already very nice this
way. I work with a 16:9 ratio screen, like many people. So vertical space is
something I really not have in abundance.
I like very much the ubuntu-dock - on the left side of the screen. I make
something like that often in kde. It makes not so much difference to me if it
is autohiding, not hiding at all or "dodging windows". Vertical space is not
such an issue.
But if I make a nice floating panel on the bottom of the panel I am very happy
when it doesn't get in the way. And "Dodge windows" helps a lot!
Personally I don't like autohiding panels. I don't like to start the system
with one. So empty.
Thanks.

Discover acting strangly and konsole output

SUMMARY
***
Very often when I start Discover the window of Discover becomes only dark grey
and white and behaves slowish and strange. Personally I think this related to
the same thing as the wallpaper picker freezing and making plasma unusable
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=470213 But I'm not able to check because I
don't know how to start the wallpaper picker from the console. So I can't get
output.
Anyway, when I start Discover from the konsole I get this output:

panel stays hidden even when there is no real reason for it to stay hidden

SUMMARY
***
I was just able to test the new "Dodge windows" functionality of Plasma 6.
Apart from the fact that it works very smooth I have one remark...
Perhaps it would be more practical and even elegant if the panel only "Dodged"
for active windows.
As it is now, once there is a full screen window, the panel will always behave
as if it was auto-hiding in the old fashioned way.
I illustrate this with an attachment.

[plasmashell] [Bug 349785] Intelligent auto-hide mode ("Dodge Windows") that hides the panel only when windows are maximized or move over it

(In reply to Nate Graham from comment #32)

Question: isn't it so that the panel doesn't "intelligently hide" for a
non-active window? If I'm not mistaking that was the behavior in Latte-Dock. I
think when I was using e.g. firefox full screen there (panel hidden) and I
opened another application that not took so much of the screen, the panel
appeared over firefox. But when I closed this active application and firefox
became the active application again, then the panel would immediately auto-hide
again.

In that light "intelligent auto-hide" is also "intelligent not-hide" because
the panel stays visible as long as it is not in the way.

[Merkuro] [Bug 474094] Crash when adding a google calendar through merkuro

2023-10-16 Thread PK
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=474094

On this page https://invent.kde.org/pim/merkuro/-/issues/227 there is a
"walkthough" about how you can still create a google account in Merkuro
calendar:
cd into .config/akonadi
nano or vim into file agent_config_akonadi_google_resource_X
 With Name entry do this:
 Name=youremailaddr...@gmail.com
 and save the file.
restart calendar settings or better still akonadictl restart and then
close terminal
you should be good to go
Only the leaps he makes are just a little too big.

At last I found out the way to do it. I reproduced it and it works:
 start merkuro calendar
from the menu choose Settings/create merkuro calendar
now the account-setup main screen opens
in the account-setup main screen choose to create google account
now the google account sub-window opens
perform what you have to do (in browser etc) and close browser
now the google account sub-window looks quite all right
 - important - open Dolphin and browse to the file ~/.config/
agent_config_akonadi_google_resource_X
put your gmail address behind "Name="
save the file and close it
 - important - now apply all in the google account sub-window and close it
 - important - but DO NOT CLOSE THE ACCOUNT-SETUP MAIN SCREEN (this will
clear all you just did)
keeping merkuro as it is, open the konsole and give command "akonadictl
restart"
now the google-stuf appears in the left side of the merkuro calendar
application
 NOW it is really done.
Btw, while figuring this out I had to clear the google calendar setting a few
times in the account-setup main screen. This made my system freeze totally.
Quite spectacular.

[kmail2] [Bug 461400] Kmail stays offline after wakeup from suspend to ram

2023-10-13 Thread PK
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=461400

To elaborate on my comment 47 some more... On my systems when coming out of
sleep, kmail says it is "offline" and it won't send email. Now when I give in
the konsole: akonadictl start, then akonadi says: I am already running.
But, when I give in the konsole the command: akonadictl restart, then, after a
short time kmail works as it should. On my systems this is 100% reproducible.
So that is why I though putting this command in a file in the folder
/usr/lib/systemd/system-sleep/ , as I also describe in comment 47, but for
reasons I do not understand, this doesn't work.

Not an easy task indeed! I tried all sorts of things but they all didn't work.
Finally I looked in the folder /usr/lib/systemd/system-sleep/ and there is
another file named "hdparm". In this file I find:

#!/bin/sh

case $1 in
  post)
/usr/lib/pm-utils/power.d/95hdparm-apm resume
;;
esac

So now I copied this file change the name and changed the content to:

#!/bin/sh

case $1 in
  post)
/usr/bin/akonadictl restart
;;
esac

I thought perhaps I found the golden key. But this also didn't work...

SUMMARY
***
I was just reading the latest blog of Nate Graham
https://pointieststick.com/2023/10/06/this-week-in-kde-re-organized-system-settings/
. There is a nice screenshot of his systemsettings window.
Only on my system the left pane of the main window of systemsettings has much
less space.
Lots of items have to end with "..." on my system because there is not enough
space. I have no clue what causes this.
I add attachments myself.

On this machine I have this bug too. On my laptop I don't and it's the same
system.
I just installed the whole Neon system again, it didn't help, I made a fresh
user (with administrator rights) this fresh user had the same problem.
I started up "plasma-discover" from the console and it gave me this output:

I find these https://community.kde.org/Guidelines_and_HOWTOs/Bug_triaging
instructions way too difficult. You see, I am a really enthusiastic KDE/Plasma
user but by no means technical.
Can someone tell me how to start the desktopconfiguration-module from the
konsole? Perhaps the konsole gives me already useful information. I looked at
the list of kcm modules but I doubt if it is one of them.
Thank you.

I totally agree with Johannes in comment 7. I recently installed Plasma on a
laptop from plm. 2014. Windows (10) is really becoming too heavy on such a
laptop so Plasma seemed a sensible choice. I was pleasantly surprised that it
was love at first site with Plasma, especially after I showed Kpat!
But I have no hope at all that the owner of this laptop will periodically
update her machine.
For her, automatic update would be a great option. I really don't see why
automatic update should wait for anything at all! In my opinion it should grab
every opportunity to do it's job.

[isoimagewriter] [Bug 471418] New: isoimagewriter demands some stuff before it starts... I don't know what it wants to see

2023-06-24 Thread PK
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=471418

Bug ID: 471418
Summary: isoimagewriter demands some stuff before it starts...
I don't know what it wants to see
Classification: Applications
   Product: isoimagewriter
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Other
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: j...@jriddell.org
  Reporter: pieterkristen...@gmail.com
  Target Milestone: ---

SUMMARY
***
I tried to write a Neon image to a usb medium with isoimagewriter but is wants
to see certain files before starting to work. I don't know what. What I want to
say is: when you are clever enough to figure out what files isoimagewriter
wants to see then you are also clever enough to say "sudo dd
if=imageofdistribution.iso of=/dev/sdb status=progress"

But wouldn't it be great if isoimagewriter (perhaps optionally) checked the
checksum itself? I mean: if Dolphin can find the files used to verify and
perform checksum on the file (in the properties dialogue) why can't
isoimagewriter?
That way isoimagewriter could also even be a more of a universal imagewriter .
***

STEPS TO REPRODUCE
1. Download (neon) iso image
2. Start isoimagewriter and point it to the downloaded image

OBSERVED RESULT
Isoimagewriter starts asking for stuff and won't start doing it's job

EXPECTED RESULT
Isoimagewriter (optionally) verifies the checksum of the file at hand and after
that do it's job.

bijgewerkt actueel

bijlage in.

https://kde.org/nl/announcements/gear/23.04.0/ ?

Engelstalige orrigineel nergens "also" staan.
Vertraging:
(the delay) of als werkwoord (to delay).

2023-04-22 Thread PK
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=468746

Sorry, daar ben ik nog een keer...

Een nieuwe schermafdruk ma/Take a new screenshot:
In de bijlage van deze bug is ook te zien wat er onder de tab "schermafdruk" te
lezen valt... "Een nieuwe schermafdruk ma". In het Engels staat daar: "Take a
new screenshot". Dus dat is letterlijk vertaald. Alleen het resultaat past bij
mij weer niet in de beschikbare ruimte.

Nieuw schermopname/New screen recording:
Onder de tab van de schermopname valt te lezen: "Nieuwe schermopname". Dat is
ook een letterlijke vertaling van het Engelse "New screen recording"
Misschien is het een optie dan i.p.v. "Een nieuwe schermafdruk ma" te kiezen
voor "Nieuwe schermafdruk"? Dan zou het wel passen in de ruimte die er voor
beschikbaar is.

If I remember well it would be ok to write in Dutch here...
Spectacle 23.04 is duidelijk zeer grondig aangepakt.
beschikbare ruimte.
