That's a KHTML shortcut, may have to do with the khelpcenter<->khtml or khtml
itself is broken

Settings/Configure Keyboard Shortcuts says F7 is "Toggle caret mode." I can't
find any mention about khelpcenter having caret mode. Even searching the
source files, the only mention I see of F7 is for Ctl-F7 "Present Windows of
current application only" in the section on "Moving Around." I wonder if the
system is getting confused because that key combination (just F7) doesn't
actually map to anything in khelpcenter.

[khelpcenter] [Bug 461468] New: Crash while pressing random function keys

2022-11-05 Thread David Korth
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=461468

Bug ID: 461468
Summary: Crash while pressing random function keys
Classification: Applications
   Product: khelpcenter
   Version: unspecified
  Platform: Gentoo Packages
OS: Linux
Status: REPORTED
  Severity: normal
  Priority: NOR
 Component: general
  Assignee: kde-doc-english@kde.org
  Reporter: gerbils...@gerbilsoft.com
  Target Milestone: ---

While cleaning my keyboard, I managed to somehow crash KHelpCenter (22.08.3;
this version isn't in the list).

I've narrowed it down to the following steps:
* Open KHelpCenter (e.g. by pressing F1 in KWrite).
* Press the following keys in sequence: F3, F1, F7
* Repeat the sequence: F3, F1, F7

Application: Help Center (khelpcenter), signal: Segmentation fault

[plasma-nm/Plasma/5.15] kded: Reject invalid keys

2019-04-30 Thread Oleg Solovyov
Git commit 257b03b185d30312a8c3308092f77ca7a6b9c84d by Oleg Solovyov.
Committed on 30/04/2019 at 13:21.
Pushed by osolovyov into branch 'Plasma/5.15'.

Reject invalid keys

Summary:
PasswordDialog accepted invalid keys, which causes storing them in user's
wallet. In that case, no new secrets will be requested from user:
plasma-nm will silently fail to connect unless key is edited or deleted.

`checkBounds` seemed so simple, yet it frustrated me endlessly. I'll dig into
it and see what's going on. I have a few suspicions.

If it’s not ready (E.g. the edge-touching issue), then it’s not ready. I
don’t want to see anything released (even as a beta) that’s got bugs.
Especially known bugs that we just ran out of time to fix. If it has to wait,
it can wait. I don’t want to be responsible for any bending or breaking of

Note that this problem is more general: Once an edge of the selection touches
the border of the screen, decreasing the size in that direction is blocked,
only increasing the size works.

It should be consistent with how it works for selecting with the mouse (grep
for `minRectSize`).

Yeah, I also had that idea a couple of weeks back, but decided to not bring
it up in the review, because for conceptual reasons I doubt that's so easy to
implement like you make it sound: The magnifier shows up at the cursor
position, which for the mouse case is either at one of the corners, or at an
arbitrary position along one of the edges. Since with the arrow keys you can
only control horizontal/vertical movement of the edges (this is true both for
resizing and moving), there is no well-defined corner, i.e. it does not make
any sense to show a square magnifier at a random position on the edge. You'd
have to show a magnifier covering the complete width/height of the respective
edge, because you cannot know where the user is looking at and which part of
the screenshot he wants to align the selection to (it might not be the corner).

One way forward could be to not only show the magnifier when resizing (i.e.
clicking on a handle) as it is implemented currently, but in addition show the
magnifier directly attached to the cursor as soon as Shift is hold down, e.g.
more like KWin's magnifying glass. However, this has a couple of drawbacks: In
case you checked the checkbox to show the magnifier by default, Shift will
confusingly trigger hiding the magnifier for clicking, but trigger showing when
not clicking (because without any click or modifier the magnifier should never
be shown at all). Next, for resizing by keyboard you'd have to first
move/resize the selection rectangle, and then reach for the mouse to position
the magnifier where you want it, and iterate as needed. That's pretty awkward,
if you ask me.

@ngraham Feel free to send a follow-up patch if you can get it working in a
non-confusing way and have a convincing answer to the question where to show
the magnifier (or rather what to magnify).

Indeed, those are not critical and can be worked on for the RC (although
that's a huge responsibility, as normally you are not supposed to ship broken
stuff where the fix is only promised for the future…).

  > (Again, thank you for the code optimization suggestions. They are

Glad you find them useful. It's not always easy to find the correct
abstractions to get concise, readable and maintainable code, but practice makes

Not done, but maybe I should have given you an example. This is how I meant it:

IOW, this should be consistent with how the spacing works for `if`.

Yeah, the magnifier shows up while dragging the selection rect (or not,

show up when you're using [Alt] to resize the rect using the keyboard arrow

This revision now requires changes to proceed.

@sharvey Thanks for the updates. As always, first I'd like to iterate to get
the patch working properly, and then I'll look at the code in detail. As I'm
now put under pressure again to squeeze the patch into 18.08, we'll see how it
goes (in general rushing leads to bugs, see last Plasma release…). First of all:

I still disagree regarding the default speed selection. We determined by
looking at other apps that [⇧] is the modifier to use, and I argued (in line
with what I meant when triaging the bug) that for making the rectangle feature
useful for keyboard users by default the movement should be fast. BTW, this is
also what KWin is doing, and I see no reason at all why Spectacle should
deviate from that standard. (See above for even more arguments.) I don't feel
comfortable approving the current default, sorry.

Apart from that, the patch now works well for the most part, good job (and
thanks to @abalaji for commenting on some things). In addition to some inline
comments below, I found those issues:

  - When the rectangle covers the whole screen, I'm unable to resize, i.e. make
the rectangle smaller again.
  - I'm unable to fine-tune both size and position with HiDPI scaling active
(see also inline comment for the likely cause).
  - Selecting with the mouse sets a minimum size, however resizing with the
arrow keys allows to resize to 0x0px.

  ---

To summarize, here's what I propose: If we can reach agreement on the default
and you are fast with the string changes still required, the patch can go in
for the Beta. Then you have time to work on the other points until the RC (at
which point we have to decide whether to ship or to revert again, based on your
progress).

I think that's too complicated, and you still need two steps to get to the
final selection (just like setting one corner by moving and the other corner by
resizing are two steps too).

"Holding the Shift while": Either remove "the", or add "key".

"using the arrows": Change to "Using the arrow keys"?

That does not seem right, because this will result in slower movement on a
HiDPI screen compared to a regular screen of the same size. (It's needed for
the 1px case, of course.)

That looks suspicious: How will you be able to store the result accurately in

Unrelated whitespace change, please revert.

Without the context of the patch in mind, this is a bit hard to understand what
it is about when you stumble upon this while reading the code. Could you come
up with a better name and/or comment?

Insert space after `switch`, please. Repeat for all other occurrences.

Alternatively, we could use the imperative mood for the top-level feature
description (Press the arrow keys to slowly move the rectangle" and the
descriptive mood for the possible modifications. Your choice. :)

Two sentences use the descriptive mood ("Pressing the arrow keys...", "Holding
the Alt key..."), while the middle one uses the imperative mood ("Hold down the

[kmymoney/5.0] kmymoney: Allow to select keys during File/Save As

2018-02-16 Thread Thomas Baumgart
Git commit 03831143604ffb5f49267fc5dfdde97bb7059866 by Thomas Baumgart.

Allow to select keys during File/Save As

Due to the change in the KDE file save dialog the additional widgets
could not be inserted dynamically into the dialog as we did in KDE4.
This has been solved by an additional dialog when GPG encryption has
been enabled in the settings and is available.

Hi,

I might be wrong, but it is possible that you are talking about folder views:

https://userbase.kde.org/Plasma#Folder_Views

or the yellow notes widget:

https://userbase.kde.org/KNotes

The Folder views are just like windows to your file system, so nothing should
be lost. Your files are in their folders. If indexing is enabled then you can
easily find them by pressing Alt+F2 then typing some keywords.

On the other hand, the content of notes is lost as soon as the sticky note
widget is closed.

This mailing list is for documentation writers so your question is slightly off
topic here. Please use support channels:

https://userbase.kde.org/Getting_Help

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Yuri

No objections; just remember to not use those entities when a module does not
depend on the version of KDocTools that define them. This most likely means
that we can't use them for everything that does not require Frameworks 5.24. As
a temporary measure we can define the entities in document itself until the
proper dependencies is in place (raising the general requirement of a module
just for this specific documentation issue is not an option.

Albeit being German, I did not take German keyboards into account. :)

Now, after searching on google a bit more, I also found some US layout
keyboards with the sign only.
So none of keycap or keysym is exactly right for all keyboards. So I'll leave
this change it to your judgement.

Keyboards used in The Netherlands and the Dutch speaking part of Belgium are
mainly US keyboards, which are not always the same with respect to symbols or
text on the keys. So normally Dutch translators do not define new entities for
keys on the keyboard.

Afaik US keyboards have the text Backspace + arrow left and Enter + arrow down
left, see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Unicomp_keyboard.jpg
On all german keyboards I've seen the Backspace key has no text only an arrow
left and the Enter key only an arrow down left.
Therefore from my pov keysym markup is is appropriate here.

On ANSI and US keyboards, Backspace and Enter is actually printed on the

You are right with plasmapa, will readd it.

But when it is save to use them without forcing a dependency on the version of
frameworks where these entities are introduced?

workspace/plasma: only 13 repos of 45 with a KF5_MIN_VERSION in the range from
5.5.0 to 5.20.0

applications: only 33 repos of 147 kf5 based repos with a KF5_MIN_VERSION in
the range from 5.0.0 to 5.18.0

I think you removed .

No objections on this (let's hear others), just remember we should wait a bit
to use them (or we will force a dependency on the version of frameworks where
they are introduced).

[kde-doc-english] Way to backup my Kleopatra keys

2013-11-08 Thread Philipp Schaumann
Hi,

I have imported a number of keys into Kleopatra, but I have not found some
option to specify where Kleopatra stores its database so that I can do a
backup / export all, or similar. I have looked through the documentation but
did not find something.

Hi,

Kleopatra is GnuPG frontend so it stores the data using GnuPG tools.

Your public keys are stored in ~/.gnupg/pubring.gpg

Your secret keys are stored in ~/.gnupg/secring.gpg

This is from GnuPG docs:

Hope this helps.

Hi,

This list is for KDE documentation writers, so your question is off topic
here.

It would be easier to answer if you at least give a short list of the
methods you have already tried to avoid confusion of advices that do not
work.

Please use kubuntu-users mailing list

https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-users

or better ubuntu-users mailing list

https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-users

for your question. Please subscribe first to avoid message bouncing and
receive answers without unnecessary delays.

Hope this helps.

Best regards,
Yuri

[kde-doc-english] Changes for tag keys: keycap to keysym

Please apply necessary changes to the sources (KDE 4.9 and 4.10). Is this
 correct?

This kind of changes from keycap to keysym markup does not change the visual
appearance of a documentation for the users, but of course helps to maintain
the docbooks and keep markup consistent.

These fixes can not go directly into 4.9 (stable), only via backports from 4.10
(trunk/master) done by the translators at certain times.

I prefer to do this kind of fixes only together with
updating/proofreading/correcting the content of a docbook.

  Hi Burkhard

Naturally, it helps to review the context is kept updated.

From the Catalan translation team have created rules for keys (for pology
tool) that could be exported to other languages. If someone finds them useful.

[kde-doc-english] kcontrol/keys#global: component menu position is inadequate

2010-09-16 Thread Krzysztof Żelechowski
Regarding the Keyboard Shortcuts Manual [1]: the section Global Keyboard
Shortcuts [2] says:

# At the bottom of this page is a drop down box?

whereas the pop-up menu is really at the top.

Besides, the style of Ctrl+C in the section Standard Keyboard Shortcuts
implies that it is a key combination, whereas it is a literal string to be
typed (pressing the actual key combination in the search box obviously has the
effect of invoking the corresponding action, so this advice is pretty unsafe).

Please fix,
Chris

I think the following patch describes the behaviour correctly. Please check,
since I got myself a bit confused about this :-). If you agree, I'll commit
during the current string unfreeze.
