Re: A craft mailinglist? Was: [Craft] [Bug 457185] Craft digiKam MacOS : libgphoto2 packaging problem.
Hi Thomas, I agree to have a dedicated mailing for Craft. If the community wants to raise this framework, we need more communication channels. Even if I consider the mailing list is not safe in time to host feedback/question/tip/guidance to use and develop this framework, it's at least the minimum to provide to users. My experience with digiKam since 2001 is, to use exclusively bugzilla with developers, or now, gitlab infrastructure, as all traces can be found easily. For example, in digiKam we have grained all topics very precisely to be sure to host topics at the right place. Users can quickly find a subject with a history, this reduces the redundant questions, noise, and saves time especially when the team is small. This is why i post my problem to bugzilla, for the moment, as: - digiKam already compiles with the hand maid CI/CD infrastructure (not with Craft). - digiKam is packaged with all options available. It's not the case so far with Craft. - Using Craft instead of the current hand maid CI/CD is a big regression. But as we cannot sign (in fact to pay) the bundles with the hand maid infrastructure and as we want to publish the bundle on the stores (especially MacOS and Windows), we decide to switch progressively to Craft. It's not a simple task but we have a long experience in packaging as digiKam has been bundled since 2015 with the hand maid solution. Voilà, it's my small feedback to this thread. (In essence, you create a new mailing list, copy over the archives and subscriptions and then close the old list) That way there would still be a single list, and given that kde-windows@kde.org has effectively been serving as the Craft mailing list for some time I don't think there should be any major objections to this. Hi Thomas, I wanted to request a craft specific ml before but the valid argument was brought up that we would loose basically everyone already subscribed and it would be quite lonely on that ml for a while. It would also mean that I'd need to do a bad job in moderating two ml's instead of just one... But yes you are completely correct, the windows ml feels a bit wrong. It has long since out-grown its Windows-only days. Posting to kde-windows really does feel a bit misplaced when discussing problems with AppImages or APKs. Also, at times I have some unfinished thoughts on craft itself that are too involved for chat, but also don't quite translate into issues or merge requests. Last not least, where, other than chat, would (usage) problems with binary-factory infrastructure be discussed? Does anybody else see a need for this? And maybe calling it something like "kde-build" would even encourage more synergy with kde-buildsrc? Regards Thomas
