The image filenames were in chronological order (they started with the date in ISO format) and my text described the details of the images (“first I attached … Then you see …“). In the composer’s attachment list they were shown in the right order. But once sent (or even just saved as draft), they were mixed up. Interestingly, after I renamed them from starting with the date to “1.”, “2.” in front of the date, the mixup was still in the same order. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

[kmail2] [Bug 453383] New: Reply mails are shown in wrong thread after being moved to a different folder (in Kontact)

I thought something this obvious must be noticed easily. But it seems I hit a niche and it just happened again, so I finally decided to report it. STEPS TO REPRODUCE I just sent replies to two different mail threads in an IMAP account. KMail stored the replies in the Sent folder, as usual. I went to the folder, selected both mails and moved them to the Inbox folder, so they may be shown within their respective threads. OBSERVED RESULT The mails were shown in the wrong thread: replay to thread A is shown in thread B and vice versa. EXPECTED RESULT The mails should appear as reply to the correct mail. Operating System: Arch Linux KDE Plasma Version: 5.24.5 KDE Frameworks Version: 5.93.0 Qt Version: 5.15.3 Kernel Version: 5.17.5-arch1-1 (64-bit) Graphics Platform: X11 Processors: 4 × Intel® Core™ i5-5200U CPU @ 2.20GHz Memory: 15.5 GiB of RAM Graphics Processor: Mesa Intel® HD Graphics 5500 ADDITIONAL INFORMATION One very interesting bit of info that I found out just now: the issue only appears in Kontakt. I closed Kontact and opened KMail as standalone application, and in there the threads were correct. Then I closed KMail and reopened Kontact, and the mails were mixed up again. I did this twice, both times with the same result. So perhaps this is a Kontact thing, or an Akonadi bug? I haven’t tested yet what happens if I move mail in standalone-KMail, so whether the (akonadi?) data is garbled during the move or during display. I also looked at the mail source to make sure the In-Reply-To header was correct. But I already knew it was so, because when I sync the account with offlineimap and view it in mutt, the thread is also correct. I have akonadiconsole installed, so I am happy to provide deeper info if required. While preparing the screenshots, I also noticed that the structure of the lower thread is different between the two programs (see circles in the image). Apparently there has been a similar hickup in the thread before. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

Looking at my running instance, those linebreaks cause what was called "combing" in the newsgroup days: in addition to the manual breaks, lines were also auto-wrapped by the tooltip frame, which causes alternating long and short lines of text. So my question is: are those breaks intentional, are they an oversight, or is this “historical ballast” dating from a time when tooltips did not auto-wrapp at all? I propose disposing of those breaks and let the system choose. [korganizer] [Bug 433332] New: Proposal for some more default keyboard shortcuts and a menu quirk
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42 Bug ID: 42 Summary: Proposal for some more default keyboard shortcuts and a menu quirk Product: korganizer Version: unspecified Platform: Archlinux Packages OS: Linux Status: REPORTED Severity: wishlist Priority: NOR Component: general Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org Reporter: war...@gmx.de Target Milestone: --- Hi Oftentimes when I use Korganizer, I wish to see what’s ahead. And since I do most stuff with the keyboard because it is the fastest method for small movements, I instinctively move my hand to the navigation area of the keyboard. I propose the following new default keyboard shortcuts: Page up: trigger Previous action Page down: trigger Next action Home (or Alt+Home in accordance with Dolpin’s go to Start page?): go to today Cursor keys: change selected day or time, which is currently only possible with the mouse. Unfortunately, using Ctrl+number keys to change calendar views like in Dolphin is not possible because those are already taken by Kontact. Perhaps Ctrl+w: show week Ctrl+d: show day Ctrl+m: show month Could be an option? Or some other scheme that fits nicely into the sequence of items in the View menu, e.g. F2 through F4 for day, week, month. I wouldn’t consider F5, because it is usually associated with Refresh. In contrast to the first shortcuts I mentioned above, those just came into my mind during writing this request. But they are still worth a consideration. While looking at the menu, I just discovered (after 15 years of using Korganizer :) ), that the items for viewing one day, 3 days and a week are menu items under „Go to“ rather than view. I find this confusing, because they don’t change the viewed date and because those items are disabled (only?) in the Month view. I usually add them to the toolbar because I use them seldom, and always wondered why they were on different toolbars than the View modes or even available in multiple toolbars. I think a submenu under View would make more sense: View menu → Day view range (or some other appropriate wording) → [One day, three days, work week, week]. Shortcuts could be assigned to Shift+Fx keys. Best regards -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug.

Because the addresses are not separated by white-space, the list becomes a very long non-breaking string (except at hyphens) and causes the surrounding frame to become too wide and overflow to the right. The addresses are already shown with commas as separator. Simply adding a space after each one should resolve this. I’m attaching a screenshot collage of three different messages: - an unsigned message (i.e. without the coloured frame) - a signed message with a short frame header. Once I set up accounts in KMail and started navigating my folders, I saw the following optical glitch. For clarification I attached a screenshot which shows the same part of the screen for two different points in time. On the left you see what the message list looks like after I clicked on its entry in the folder list. The other half depicts how it looks after I moved the mouse into the message list. As you can see, some more status icons appeared. It boils down to the Message tags item which can be added in the customisation dialogue for message list themes (the one which is shown using three tag icons). For a test I cloned the Intelligent theme and removed all other items on its right side except for Message tags. As expected, only the message topic was now shown in the message list right after loading it. But when I moved the mouse in, some icons appeared. As I mentioned, the KDE profile dir was empty from scratch, plus I don't use custom message tags at all. So this can't be a problem originating from left-overs from another installation. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Set message list theme to itelligent (decorative in earlier version). 2. Click on a folder to display its messages. 3. The effects were, for instance, truncated Notes fields, a messed up company name and a truncated URL field (only showed http://;, the rest was missing). Digging deeper, I found out that the problem are DOS-Style newlines, i.e. CRLF, in encoded fields (lines with =65=A3= and so on instead of clear text). After I changed the file to Unix-newlines (just LF) using vim, all contacts and their fields were imported properly. The URL example I mentioned was at first strange – the URL was short, not wrapped and also not encoded. But the previous line in the VCF had the postal address was wrapped and encoded that way because it contained non-ASCII characters. After I removed the address from the file, the URL field was imported properly. This was just an attempt of a manual “contact sync” between phone and KDE until I get a local sync server running. But this has the potential of a cascading data loss on both ends of the sync, hence I marked this as critical. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Have a VCard file with DOS-type newlines (CRLF). 2. Have a field encoded with hex values and wrapped Actual Results: The field that comes after the wrapped and encoded line is not imported properly. It may be garbled, truncated or not show up at all, which may even lead to the contact being discarded by the importer. All data was imported correctly once the linebreaks were converted to Unix-style (LF). Expected Results: All fields should be imported correctly regardless of file formatting. The VCF in question was produced by the stock android contacts app. I tried looking for duplicates, but am not sure. #320196 talks about VCF export. [Akonadi] [Bug 325524] New: Mail dispatcher stuck in loop when it can't send mail due to SSL problem
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=325524 Bug ID: 325524 Summary: Mail dispatcher stuck in loop when it can't send mail due to SSL problem Classification: Unclassified Product: Akonadi Version: 4.11 Platform: Gentoo Packages OS: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: Mail Dispatcher Agent Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org Reporter: war...@gmx.de CC: vkra...@kde.org At the moment I can't send mails via one of my mail providers (gmx). I first noticed it in mutt, so I tried it with KMail. Upon the first attempt, it shows me a message saying that the SSL certificate does not match the host with the three choices Cancel, View details and Continue. If I then choose to view the certificate details, a KDE SSL certificate window opens. Once I closed that again, the mail dispatcher agent gets stuck in some kind of loop. It hogs one CPU core and starts eating ever more RAM (3–4 MB per second on this 3 GHz Pentium 4). I looked at it with Akonadi Console and it said “Sending email subject (0%)”. I am able to abort the sending process via the agent’s context menu. Then the CPU load goes back to idle, but the used up memory is not reclaimed. For a while both KMail and the Console becomes unresponsive, but eventually come back. Subsequent attempts of sending don’t give me the SSL warning, but the agent gets stuck again. This lockup loop does not occur if I simply abort the sending instead of viewing the SSL details. I don’t really want to try what happens if I choose “Continue”, in case someone really hacked the provider. :o) I can give you more info if you tell me what you need. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Send a mail over an SMTP that is secured with SSL/TLS. SSL authentication fails (host does not match). Actual Results: Mail dispatcher agent is stuck in a CPU and memory loop. Expected Results: The dispatcher should handle such an event more gracefully. BTW: When I close the SSL viewer, the dialogue which asked me on how to process is gone. However, it should still be there, because I haven’t answered yet whether to proceed or abort. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Kdepim-bugs mailing list Kdepim-bugs@kde.org https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kdepim-bugs

After the upgrade on my Gentoo 64 bit from KDE 4.10 to 4.11 I had to set up all my Akonadi stuff from scratch because it was borked (i.e. the setup is now as clean and uncustomised as can be). Originally I set one of the IMAPs to sync every 60 minutes, but then decided to switch automatic sync off altogether for that account because it has lots of (distracting) mailing list traffic. Yet, even without opening KMail, the resource requests to open the KDE wallet, and I get notifications about new mail. I just sent a test mail to the account and was notified within 10 seconds. Could that be IMAP idle what I’m describing? [Bug 304563] Akregator 4.9.0 handles keyboard input badly when focus is on article list
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=304563 --- Comment #3 from Frank Steinmetzger war...@gmx.de --- Well, using Cursor left/right has always worked to navigate the article list. After all, they're the default shortcut for the respective actions. Just to illustrate my use case (and I realise it's *my* use case, others may handle it differently of course): I don't read in Akregator that often (every other day or so), but when I do, I skim through dozens, sometimes hundreds of articles. To get through them quickly, the left hand lies on the cursor block (to scroll an article I'm interested in) and right shift (to range-select a bunch of articles in the article list, so I can delete them). The right hand sits on the mouse. That way I can very quickly and efficiently navigate through the feed, read the interesting stuff and delete the rest. My reasoning is all about saving time when reading. To reach for Tab, I would have to move the hand over the entire keyboard twice for every article I want to read. It sounds plain lazy, but if summed up, this amounts to a lot of time. And using the mouse to set the keyboard focus back and forth also takes much longer than simply pressing a key which is focus-independent. (I just tried tab/shift-tab, and it doesn't work for some feeds, like heise.de and golem.de; the focus gets trapped in the HTML document. It would also not work if I clicked a link in there). Don't get me wrong, I appreaciate that finally, after a long time, Akregator gets some new attention. And if you don't want to bring the old cursor up/down behaviour back for the old geezers like me who used them since KDE3 times, I can't force you to, just to satisfy my need for nostalgia. But then I'd like to ask you to repair the j/k behaviour that got broken in the process. Right now, j scrolls down the article list with wrap-around, and k seems to do nothing at all. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=304563 Bug ID: 304563 Severity: normal Version: 4.9 Priority: NOR Assignee: kdepim-bugs@kde.org Summary: Akregator 4.9.0 handles keyboard input badly when focus is on article list Classification: Unclassified OS: Linux Reporter: war...@gmx.de Hardware: Gentoo Packages Status: UNCONFIRMED Component: general Product: akregator Dear devs Starting with 4.9.0, Akregator introduces different (and IMHO wrong) behaviour when the focus is on the article list: When pressing cursor up/down, the previous/next article is shown. This should not happen because: - cursor left/right are assigned to those actions by default. Cursor up/down are not assigned, and hence they should not trigger them. - it is common practice in programs like this (such as KMail and KNode), to have cursor up/down instead scroll the article, regardless of where the keyboard focus is (which was also Akregator's behaviour before 4.9) Konqueror offers to use vi-like shortcuts such as j/k to scroll down/up, respectively. This worked nicely in the 4.8 series, but now, the article doesn't scroll anymore, only the article list jumps around its centre when pressing j. Thanks for your consideration. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: - Click on an article in the article list. - Press cursor up/down Actual Results: The previous/next article is shown. Expected Results: The shown article should scroll up/down. Some would say that the new behaviour is more intuitive (because if the article list is focused, then all keyboard input should affect that list). However, it is less practical because that way it becomes impossible to fully navigate a feed with the keyboard only. -- You are receiving this mail because: You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Kdepim-bugs mailing list Kdepim-bugs@kde.org https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kdepim-bugs

[Bug 278487] akonadi eats my memory ;)
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=278487 Frank Steinmetzger war...@gmx.de changed: What|Removed |Added CC||war...@gmx.de --- Comment #8 from Frank Steinmetzger Warp_7 gmx de 2011-09-05 12:42:45 --- There are a number of related bugs, which makes it hard to decide where to write this. I picked this one because it’s more recent. Firstly: The reason for Akonadi running without KMail loaded is that KMail is only one _possible_ frontend to Akonadi's mail storage. Fair enough, I understand that reason. But I, too, am quite appalled by Akonadi's recent performance, it's been getting on my nerves big time over the last weeks (though, unlike the OP, I’ve never run out of memory so far, having 3 GB or RAM). IIRC it was much better with 4.6.0. Secondly: in current KDE (4.7.0) it considerably delays desktop readiness after login, it almost feels like Windows XP with Norton Internet Security and Nero Suite registered for autostart. ;-p Thirdly: Akonadi repeatedly seems to juggle around mails, as I get prolonged disk load with accompanying CPU load on a regular basis. Maybe that's connected with the automatic check for new mails. I could be over-sensitive to this because my laptop is getting old and I need to do some maintenance on the cooling system, and the additional load adds to that problem. Plus, laptop HDDs aren’t so fast to begin with, so the system becomes sluggish because loading of files is hampered. Akonadi is supposed to be a database-aided cache, and for that it needs to make sure the cache corresponds with the actual content after login. But surely there must be ways to improve this. Added to that as a forth point, even with the frequent system load to maintain the cache, KMail still needs half a minute to display a mailing list folder for the first time. Where is the advantage of the cache here? I was told in #kontact to disable threading in order to speed that up, but (to me) threading would only explain CPU load, not the amount of disk shuffling. I don't have _that_ many mails, here’s a coarse measurement for my setup: $ cd ~/.kde4/share/apps/kmail/ $ find mail/ dimap/ -type f | wc -l 14661 ramble I can imagine that many current KMail users are from old times that stick with it because they are used to it, know its powers or want to stick to KDE-only programs. But imagine a new user: all he will say is “I’ll use something else, KMail is just too slow for me.” (and it’s not even KMail’s own fault here) /ramble -- Configure bugmail: https://bugs.kde.org/userprefs.cgi?tab=email --- You are receiving this mail because: --- You are the assignee for the bug. ___ Kdepim-bugs mailing list Kdepim-bugs@kde.org https://mail.kde.org/mailman/listinfo/kdepim-bugs

https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=255388 --- Comment #24 from Frank Steinmetzger Warp_7 gmx de 2011-04-28 05:19:34 --- When I click “Mark as Spam”, the filter action is carried out (move to Spam folder). But even if the source of our two problems is the same (different handling of folders), I think my spam isssue and this one still constitute two different problems. This bug is about filters not getting triggered for IMAP mails, and mine is about mails not getting the Spam header from Bogofilter. The Spamfilter is triggered alright here. I tested it by changing the pipe through command from “bogofilter -p -e” to “tee /some/file | bogofilter -p -e” and sent me a mail. [Bug 266154] New: Bogofilter doesn't work with KMail anymore
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=266154 Summary: Bogofilter doesn't work with KMail anymore Product: kmail2 Version: 2.0.89 Platform: Gentoo Packages OS/Version: Linux Status: UNCONFIRMED Severity: normal Priority: NOR Component: filtering AssignedTo: kdepim-bugs@kde.org ReportedBy: war...@gmx.de Version: 2.0.89 (using KDE 4.6.0) OS:Linux After migrating to Akonadi-based KDEPIM a few weeks ago ago, I noticed that bogofilter didn't have an effect on my incoming mails anymore. So I deleted the responsible filters and ran the spam filter wizard anew (because other filters didn’t work, too because of changed folder IDs). The resulting filters were the same, and bogofilter still doesn't work -- there is no X-Bogosity header in new mails. I tested it on the commandline -- I saved a spam mail to a file and fed it to bogofilter -- the mail was correctly recognised as spam. So I suspect that bogofilter is unable to alter the mail header due to the new way of KMail's handling of mail files. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: Fetch mails with bogofilter set up for spam filtering. Actual Results: New mails don’t get the bogofilter header X-Bogosity attached. The migration for my two POP3 and one disconnected IMAP account went well. The resources for those mail accounts automatically had the Switch offline on KMail Shutdown option enabled, but it seems to me that it is not observed. Mails are still downloaded when Kontact/KMail is not running. One result of this is that sorting filters which were set up in KMail are not applied, thus my inbox gets swamped with mailing lists and such and I have to manually apply the filters. First: when the list is scrolled down a bit and the Retrieval Options are opened, the popup appears as more below the mouse cursor as the list has been scrolled (see the screenshot, it shows both the cursor position and the menu at the time of clicking). Second: as you can also see on the screenie, the dropdown arrows don't appear correctly with the QtCurve style, as well as with several other such as Plastique or Clearlooks.
