I could reproduce the problems with Compaq nx6310.
- internal network card is not working (only in live mode)

The latest testing I have done is to reinstall Edubuntu:
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04

Then, instead of using the default GUI, Unity, I installed the Gnome
Fallback which comes with the package.

There is no way to update BIOS. It's use WinFlash.exe, and need a full
installed Windows. WinFlash.exe no run in WINE or Windows Live.

Stager, what many do is either use a spare drive, install Windows,
install the BIOS, and swap drives, or backup their data, install
Windows, install the BIOS, and then either do a reinstall, or reimage

I can't use a later kernel version, because none of the kernels that fix
the problem are part of the LTS Trusty Tahr release. I think this bug
is still valid, and needs to be resolved in a LTS update. However, I'm
not sure that I can do anything about that at this time.
