Interestingly this seems to only be an issue with virtualbox 4.3.26 r98998 from virtualbox.org. This issue does _NOT_ seem to be present in the exact same version that is provided by the ubuntu repositories. after examining the two package, even though both are 4.3.26 r98988, the packages are
