I'm afraid it isn't possible. Expander hang is rare event and after
reboot it come back to normal work. So this is very edge case.
I believe that problem is not fixed in upstream kernel because ses.c
wasn't changed too much.

Just tried latest BIOS (F.12), nothing changed in both kernel versions
3.19.0-16 and 4.1-rc1.
Since there were no updates to the rt286 and i2c-designware modules in
kernel 4.1-rc2 and 4.1-rc3, I don't think upgrading the kernel will give
us any different results.
