My understanding is that "16.04.3" doesn't imply the 4.10 kernel.
Rather, both the 4.4 kernel series and the HWE kernel series (which

This issue has been observed on a Lenovo X220i laptop:
1. Booting the laptop with artful's 4.12 kernel results in a very sluggish
system performance (mouse pointer delays) and a high system load.
2. /var/log/kern.log indicates a problem with the display driver (see below)

sudo kexec -l -d /boot/vmlinuz- --initrd=/boot/initrd.img-
--reuse-cmd

wait up to 10 minutes for the new kernel to boot
System will crash at userspace boot without this fix.

problem described here, it contains the commit#
46a704f8409f79fd66567ad3f8a7304830a84293 (as
a97e978574f41ffcf1813c180aba2772d46fbb5b), but it does not include
commit# e47057151422a67ce08747176fa21cb3b526a2c9.

I am confirm that after I moved to the 4.4.0-95-generic kernel from the
proposed repository this, I dont see this issue any longer.

Good to know. If tail works around this by default is there any other
