Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer
to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please test the latest

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following

I'm now able to boot from my USB. The kernel update thankfully resolved
this issue.
Booting into GRUB, entering the command line and typing "exit" seems to
have worked for me. Of course, this was after I installed Kernel 4.14.9.
Thank you all for the help!

Had the same problem in Windows (I think, harder to diagnose on Windows), even

Ubuntu 17.10 corrupting BIOS
#426 Derek: I understand how you feel, but first of all Ubuntu states
that they are not liable for such issues in their disclaimers. They also
have LTS versions which have less problems and more support, nobody were
forced to upgrade to 17.10. I agree that it's a major blow to their

I'm using Debian Stretch, but I took the source package from the

I'm still facing the same issue in ubuntu 17.10, tried mainline kernels.
Is there a way to install fglrx driver ? That is the only one it worked in
these years .
Otherwise please help me to report this bug upstream, since it is present also
on mainline kernels (standard and drm-next ones)

I don't know exactly what you mean, but 4.14 kernel has this patch. It's
easy to verify by changed messages ("enabling ssd optimizations" vs
"enabling SSD mode").

I don't think it is the same. If I understood well, that issue states
that the battery status is showing always discharging, while in my case,
