I got the same problem (slow speed of wifi) with the ATHEROS AR928X from an
Acer aspire AS3410T and with the ATHEROS AR9285 from an Asus X70IC. The two
computers under ubuntu 16.04 with the last update.
It work perfectly under windows 7 with this two computers.

I'm getting stable Internet connection with kernel version
4.7.0-040700rc3-generic on Ubuntu 14.04.4. I've been testing it since
early Monday, and it hasn't dropped connection once.
I'm able to do normal things like stream music on Spotify and watch
YouTube videos. I'm getting 6
I have the same problem.
In windows xp the wireless works at 150 mbps, but in xubuntu 16.04 it works
most of the time at 1 mbps, some times at 39 mbps.
Before in lubuntu 12.04 it worked perfect.
I could do report apport report...

I'm running Ubuntu 14.04.4 LTS (4.2.0-38-generic) with an Atheros AR928X
Wireless Network Adapter. WiFi works if I'm next to the WiFi base
station. If I move 5 metres away, it drops out.
