Thanks for the offer to help. Can you test some prior kernel versions
to see when this issue was introduced. It would be good to start with
newer kernels and work back. We should test v3.13 final first, then
some 3.13 release candidates. If they all have the bug, then test some

Also, do you happen to know the last kernel version that did not exhibit
this bug? We can perform a kernel bisect if we can identify the last
good kernel version and first bad kernel.

Wrong again, got exactly the bad behaviour on Ubuntu 13.10. It's perhaps
not related to the issue that started this thread, but since I posted
here I thought I might as well inform anyone visiting this that my
solution didn't work.
My current thinking is that if you have an NFS4 server with client
Works for me, but you must have i2c_hid enabled also. (previous
suggestions were to blacklist this, so make no blacklisted in
/etc/modprobe.d)

I have not blacklisted i2c_hid.
Previously I was running a custom kernel from
https://github.com/mightybigcar/synaptics-rmi4/tree/rmihid.
I just wanted to try this module with the 3.13.0-23-generic kernel from the
repro.

I put the former drive back in. It appears to have only one kernel
update older than current, and the USB mouse works fine. Packages on
that drive are as follows:

I talked to the upstream who said that ./configure should detect that

To be honest, there are few strange issues related to using trackpad /
