I tried to install 14.04.1 + 3.13.0-37 kernel to reproduce it, but the
speaker audio output changed to Dummy Output, which is totally
different from the environment in the beginning of this report.

Did an upstream bug get filed for this? I have the same pc model (HP Compaq
dc7800p) and have always seen the same odd behaviour where the pc must first be
put into hibernate before it will be able to resume from suspend to RAM. I have
seen this behaviour in both Ubuntu and Arch linux

been able to reproduce an unhandled SAS/SCSI event (the new kernel did
intensely dislike NTP and apparmour, but that's an other issue

There were only two 'sas_scsi_recover_host' events early in the boot

First of all, iwconfig uses wireless extensions, which is deprecated but
supported through emulation. I'm honestly not sure whether changing the
power save option is expected to work that way. Try using 'sudo iw wlan0

all of them. Then I tried out 3.17-rc6 for a about a week before the

kernel 3.17-rc2 to 3.17 in order to identify the last bad commit,
followed immediately by the first good one. Once this commit has been
identified, then it may be reviewed as a candidate for backporting into

kernel to 3.16 in order to identify the last good kernel commit,

Does the issue go away by just booting the 3.13.0-36-generic kernel and
making no other changes? Then the problem comes back if you boot
3.13.0-37-generic? If that is the case, we can perform a kernel bisect
to identify the commit that introduced this regression.

Update - I just started 3.13.0-39-generic from Trusty (on which everything was
OK). But now it doesn't work. I can control brightness before X is started, but
when lighdm starts brightness control no longer works.
IMHO this is rather related to X server, not kernel, what do you think?
