FC Redfish Adapter(32 GB) is going offline on assigning the Luns to it.
Adapter shows online till pettitboot and even Luns are also vissible in
pettitboot.
once selecting the OS from pettitboot and booting into it, it produces call
traces and also few lpfc errors. attached the comple console logs FYR.
The FC switch to which the Redfish adapter is connected is a 16 GB switch and
the adapter is of 32 GB. According to me this parameter should not have any
concern as the adapter has to support backward compatibility.

  ---Steps to Reproduce---
  1. install the adapter in a server. and connect it to FC switch (16 GB)
  2. create zone and assign the LUNS to it from V7000.
  3. reboot the OS

Bug description:
The zesty kernel carries a backport of the KVM MSI/PCIe passthrough
patchset from v4.11-rc1. After merging, static analysis detected a bug
in this patch where a function can return an uninitialized value. It
isn't clear what the risk of not carrying this patch would be - but it
  is an obvious correction.

The upstream commit summarizes the problem well, so I'll just paste it
  here:

  commit d8a4995bcea168dfac8ee41c28c79109907e4fba
  Author: Christopher Covington
  Date: Wed Feb 15 16:39:43 2017 -0500

tty: pl011: Work around QDF2400 E44 stuck BUSY bit

The Qualcomm Datacenter Technologies QDF2400 family of SoCs contains a
custom (non-PrimeCell) implementation of the SBSA UART. Occasionally the
BUSY bit in the Flag Register gets stuck as 1, erratum 44 for both 2432v1
and 2400v1 SoCs.Checking that the Transmit FIFO Empty (TXFE) bit is 0,
instead of checking that the BUSY bit is 1, works around the issue.

To facilitate this substitution of flags and values, introduce
vendor-specific inversion of Feature Register bits when UART AMBA Port
(UAP) data is available. For the earlycon case, prior to UAP availability,
implement alternative putc and early_write functions.

Similar to what how ARMv8 ACPI PCI quirks are detected during MCFG
parsing,
check the OEM fields of the Serial Port Console Redirection (SPCR) ACPI
table to determine if the current platform is known to be affected by the
  erratum.

Title:
amd64: "Fixing recursive fault but reboot is needed!"

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Invalid

Bug description:
After the completed Raring Ringtail amd64 installation every boot ends
in the following statement "Fixing recursive fault but reboot is
needed!". No terminal, no gui, no logs at this point. Others say they
can boot after about 10 tries every time, but I can not. Maybe someone
can provide logs from a successful boot, but mine are all empty. I
attach lscpu, lshw and lspci output acquired from the Raring Ringtail
amd64 live CD. The live mode works fine, the problem arises upon
  installation.

I can not boot the Raring installation at all.

Several people experiencing this bug, including me, reported it over
at bug #1066435, but I was told that, although both bugs share the
same behaviour, they probably originate from different problems. Also,
bug #1175660 has a similar error message, but seems able to boot
  properly.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1602888] [NEW] Dell Inspiron 7559 fans do not shut off once started, even when cool

2017-03-16 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
You have been subscribed to a public bug:

Running Ubuntu 16.04 on a Dell Inspiron 7559 laptop there appears to be
an issue with the fan control. When I first boot up the machine the fans
are off. However, after the laptop warms up under normal usage, the fans
kick on and then never shut off again. Even when the CPU cools down to
below 35c, the fans will continue to run.

If I suspend the the laptop, and then immediately wake it up again then
fans are once again off, until it warms up again. So essentially, once
the fans start they don't seem to ever shut off.

Fans seem to work normally under Windows 10. They turn on as needed,
and then turn off once the laptop cools down.

I've tried the various BIOS updates that Dell has released, without
success. I am currently running Dell's latest BIOS for this laptop
(v1.1.8)

Below is the output of lm-sensors showing the fans running when the CPU
is at a cool 35c

Title:
ASUS G752VS: Touchpad and Fn keys not working (Ubuntu

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Non-Optimus laptop ASUS G752VS-GC063D-CST256.

Hello, after experimenting few days ago with Ubuntu 16.04.1, 16.10 and
17.04, among other problems I found that touchpad and Fn keys (all
except volume control) doesn't work on my brand new ASUS G752VS.

It is very hard even to try Ubuntu 16.10 and 17.04 because of the
missing mouse pointer. This problem must be related to a video driver
because if after installing one is capable to install Nvidia drivers -
problem is solved. This problem doesn't exist both while trying and
  installing Ubuntu 16.04.1!

I'm currently on Windows 10, and this bug report is made from Ubuntu
  16.04.1 LiveCD.

Title:
Kernel network namespace performance regression during rcu development
  on kernels above 3.8

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released
Status in linux source package in Trusty:
  Fix Released
Status in linux source package in Utopic:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  SRU Justification:

Impact: network namespace creation has performance regression since v3.5.
Fix: my analysis, lklm discussion, upstream patch
  Testcase:

   http://people.canonical.com/~inaddy/lp1328088/make_fake_routers.sh
   http://people.canonical.com/~inaddy/lp1328088/parse.py
   http://people.canonical.com/~inaddy/lp1328088/charts/250.html
   http://people.canonical.com/~inaddy/lp1328088/charts/250-tag.html

Running make_fake_routers.sh 4000 and using parse.py you can check if
"fake routers" are being created in a good rate /sec (and you can
   compare with all generated charts).

  Original Description:

  Please, follow this in:
  http://people.canonical.com/~inaddy/lp1328088/. Same description on
  daily-basis updated text.

  --
It was brought to my attention that network namespace creation scalability
was affected during kernel development.

The following script was used for all the tests and charts generation:

  http://people.canonical.com/~inaddy/lp1328088/make_fake_routers.sh
  http://people.canonical.com/~inaddy/lp1328088/parse.py

I measured how many "fake routers" (above script) could be added per
second from 0 to 4000 created routers mark. Using this script and a
git bisect on kernel tree I was led to one specific commit causing
regression: #911af50 "rcu: Provide compile-time control for no-CBs
CPUs". Even Though this change was experimental at that point, it
introduced a performance scalability regression (explained below) that
still last and seems to be the default option for distributions
  nowadays.

RCU related code looked like to be responsible for the problem. With
that, every commit from tag v3.8..master that changed any of this
  files: "kernel/rcutree.c kernel/rcutree.h kernel/rcutree_plugin.h
  include/trace/events/rcu.h include/linux/rcupdate.h" was tested. The
idea was to check performance regression during rcu development. In
the worst case, the regression not being related to rcu, I would still
have data to interpret the performance/scalability regression.

All text below this refer to 2 groups of charts, generated during the
  study:

  1) Kernel git tags from 3.8 to 3.14.
  http://people.canonical.com/~inaddy/lp1328088/charts/250-tag.html

  2) Kernel git commits for rcu development (111 commits).
  http://people.canonical.com/~inaddy/lp1328088/charts/250.html

Since there was difference in results depending on how many cpus or
how the no-cb cpus were configured, 3 kernel config options were used
  on every measure:

  - CONFIG_RCU_NOCB_CPU (disabled): nocbno
  - CONFIG_RCU_NOCB_CPU_ALL (enabled): nocball
  - CONFIG_RCU_NOCB_CPU_NONE (enabled): nocbnone

Obs: For 1 cpu cases: nocbno, nocbnone, nocball behaves the same since
w/ only 1 cpu there is no no-cb cpu

After charts being generated it was clear that NOCB_CPU_ALL (4 cpus)
affected the "fake routers" creation process performance and this
regression continues up to upstream version. It was also clear that,
after commit #911af50, having more than 1 cpu does not improve
performance/scalability for netns, makes it worse.

  #911af50
  ...
  +#ifdef CONFIG_RCU_NOCB_CPU_ALL
  +   pr_info("\tExperimental no-CBs for all CPUs\n");
  +   cpumask_setall(rcu_nocb_mask);
  +#endif /* #ifdef CONFIG_RCU_NOCB_CPU_ALL */
  ...

Comparing standing out points (see charts):

  #81e5949 - good
  #911af50 - bad

I was able to see that, from the script above, the following lines
causes major impact on netns scalability/performance:

  1) ip netns add -> huge performance regression:
  1 cpu: no regression
  4 cpu: regression for NOCB_CPU_ALL
  obs: regression from 250 netns/sec to 50 netns/sec
on 500 netns already created mark

  2) ip netns exec -> some performance regression
  1 cpu: no regression
  4 cpu: regression for NOCB_CPU_ALL
obs: regression from 40 netns (+1 exec per netns
creation) to 20 netns/sec on 500 netns created
   mark

  # Assumption (to be confirmed)

rcu callbacks being offloaded to other cpus caused regression in
  copy_net_ns<-created_new_namespaces or unshare(clone_newnet).

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1653456] Re: ASUS G752VS: Touchpad and Fn keys not working (Ubuntu 16.04.1/16.10/17.04)

2017-03-16 Thread aljosa
Until the problem with the screen brightness has been resolved, you can
adjust it via NVIDIA control panel/NVIDIA X server settings: GPU 0 -
(GeForce GTX 1070) → DFP-2 - (LGD) → Color Correction → Brightness

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1663991] Re: Unable to Connect Third HDD via USB Hub

2017-03-16 Thread Vej
@Joseph Do you have an open SRU request for this somewhere?

@Simon I have to admit, that I do not know if your problem might be
triggered by the previous self compiled kernel.

However: It sometimes happens, that fixes for kernel bugs create
regressions. I think you are better with filing another bug report for
that. You might link to this report, but the new report should contain
all available informations (so it should not be necessary to read this
one to understand the other bug report).

There has been found a bug in 4.8, which causes kernel call trace when
I connect third USB HDD to a USB hub. After the trace, kswapd0 process
  uses 100% of CPU.

The bug has been fixed in 4.10. Is it possible to roll out new kernel

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1666209] Re: PPC new 4.4.0-63-powerpc63-smp kernel kills networking

2017-03-16 Thread Kirill Nersesyan
Additional bump - on kernel version 67 now and the issue still exists.
Every time a new kernel installs, after a reboot the network interface
names are changed (mostly digits inside the enP--->p5s3 mask in my case)

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1667323] Re: Backlight control does not work and there are no entries in /sys/class/backlight

2017-03-16 Thread André Desgualdo Pereira
Kernel 4.4.0-63 is bad.

Details:

I reach
https://launchpad.net/~canonical-kernel-team/+archive/ubuntu/ppa/+build/11016267

It does not contains kernel 4.4.0-63 but instead 4.4.0-43.63. Besides
that, I proceed and installed:

linux-headers-4.4.0-43_4.4.0-43.63_all.deb
linux-headers-4.4.0-43-generic_4.4.0-43.63_amd64.deb
linux-image-4.4.0-43-generic_4.4.0-43.63_amd64.deb
linux-image-extra-4.4.0-43-generic_4.4.0-43.63_amd64.deb

So kernel 4.4.0-43 is good.

But I think you need me to test the 4.4.0-63 kernel, so I run "apt
install linux-image-4.4.0-63. And then concluded that kernel 4.4.0-63 is
bad.

When installing kernel 4.8.0-30-generic on Linux Mint 18.1 (Ubuntu 16.04),
ndiswrapper returns the following error:

The same happens when re-installing via Synaptic. Synaptic reports
"Changes applied" (doesn't report failure), but in fact there is no

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1663991] Re: Unable to Connect Third HDD via USB Hub

2017-03-16 Thread Simon Davis
Hello again, the gods must definitely hate me.

Your testing kernel got replaced immediately. Automatically. I do not
understand it. I have never used any automatic updater and I always do
all updates by hand. Anyway, the original kernel had been back with next
reboot. OK, no problem I told to myself. I will wait for official
update. I also didn't write it to you because I was extremely happy that
the problem was fixed and did not want to disturb anyone with something
what was going to be fixed with standard update schedule.

Well, the 4.8.0-42 kernel showed up today along with some other updates.
Great! I updated my system with the most recent packages as I always did
for years and years. But it was different this time. The system did not
boot with the new kernel. I have never experienced this. I must say that
my system is pretty clean and perfectly stable. I usually keep from
doing anything potentially hazardous or dirty.

The good thing is that I still can boot the older 4.8.0-41 kernel. So I
am definitely cursed and sentenced to stay with the bug forever. :) No,
really, I was not expecting this.

Why am I writing this most probably off topic information here? At
first, I wanted to share my complete bad luck situation with someone.
Second, I want to ask you if there is any possibility that it can be
caused by the previous kernel switching back and forth for the test. I
do not think so but who knows.

I searched the net, checked ubuntuforums.org and I could not find anyone
else with these symptoms. Maybe it is too early. I was checking the logs
and failed to identify the problem. I will try harder later because I
have to work now.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1511511] Re: USB keyboard stops working after pressing extended key

2017-03-16 Thread Alexander
Partially I solved the problem with Cougar 500K.
The problem lies in the fact that this keyboard has three interfaces (in terms
of USB), for the first two (keyboard and mouse) the kernel attaches the input
driver (from dmesg):

0003:060B:500A.0001: input,hidraw0: USB HID v1.11 Keyboard [Cougar500k
Cougar500k Gaming Keyboard] on usb-:00:06.0-1/input0
> input: Cougar500k Cougar500k Gaming Keyboard as
/devices/pci:00/:00:06.0/usb2/2-1/2-1:1.0/0003:060B:500A.0001/input/input6

0003:060B:500A.0002: input,hiddev0,hidraw2: USB HID v1.11 Mouse [Cougar500k
Cougar500k Gaming Keyboard] on usb-:00:06.0-1/input1
> input: Cougar500k Cougar500k Gaming Keyboard as
/devices/pci:00/:00:06.0/usb2/2-1/2-1:1.1/0003:060B:500A.0002/input/input7

and for the third it does not (from dmesg):

0003:060B:500A.0003: hiddev0,hidraw1: USB HID v1.11 Device [Cougar500k
Cougar500k Gaming Keyboard] on usb-:00:06.0-1/input2
> ! no input driver attached !

Problem arise due to the lack of an input driver for the third interface.
When you press any additional extended key, the microcontroller of the keyboard
generates the USB packets for transmission through the third interface to
kernel.
And the keyboard microcontroller will stop his work until the kernel driver
process this USB packets.

I solved this problem ugly (due insufficient knowledge in writing
drivers for Linux and HID devices). I connect the simplest input driver
to the third interface which reads USB packets without processing any
data in packet. As a result, the main keys work, but additional keys
not. But at least the keyboard no longer freezes when I press additional
keys.

filled my password, enter into my account and then froze, I could not
do anything neither the keyboard nor the mouse, was totally frozen.

I waited a few minutes, there was no change and then I tried enforced
restart by Alt + Print Screen + B.

Very rarely I have exactly this problem, but I never knew exactly what
you might needed as log files and information, so I proceed further to
the next time. This time I decided to cooperate.

  I don't know what exactly should I provide, except /var/log/kern.log , so I
attached it. Here is a note: I looked at this log file and would like to point
that everything started right here:
Nov 23 18:09:28 PC kernel: [43931.580063] PM: Syncing filesystems ... done.

It seems I started my PC at 18:09:28 .

I'll be glad if you helped to discover where the problem comes from.

My distribution is Ubuntu MATE 16.10, up-to-date.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1646622] Re: TouchPad doesn't work ASUS x556uj

2017-03-16 Thread Victor Vlasenko
avim (avisoftware123). It should have not been working with 4.9 as touch
pad. It was working as a mouse. E.g. with 4.9 you should not be able to
do scrolls and other gestures.

There are generally might be three cases with this touch pad:
1. The touch pad is not working at all, e.g. no cursor visible. This is due to
three consecutive failed attempts to reset the hardware. This can happen with
all the linux kernels < 4.10, it is a floating issue sometimes it happens on
the same machine, sometimes not. The proper reset for this hardware need to be
done with 1ms delay between device "power on" command and device "reset"
command (this is implemented only in kernel >= 4.10)
2. The touch pad is working as a MOUSE. E.g. no scrolling or other gestures
available. This will be the case with all the kernels < 4.10, when device reset
happen to finish successfully.
3. The touch pad is fully working as a TOUCH PAD, with scrolling and other
gestures support. This will be the case for all the kernels >= 4.10. Plus there
will be no floating hardware reset issue.

Hope this helps

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1245328] Re: Synaptics kernel driver does not report finger width information, breaking usermode driver's palm detection

2017-03-16 Thread J. A. Durieux
Can someone help an Ubuntu n00b (16.04) - how do I switch from synaptics to
libinput?
What setting should I change, and how dangerous is doing so?
If e.g. the touchpad stops working, how do I undo my changes?

Thank you!

Title:
Synaptics kernel driver does not report finger width information,
  breaking usermode driver's palm detection

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
While doing some work on the Xorg synaptics driver, I noticed that we
never actually detect palm blocking even after running synclient
PalmDetect=1. Digging in a bit, the driver claims in its capability
bits that it should be sending ABS_TOOL_WIDTH records, but according
to evtest(1), the driver never sends these advertised records to
userspace. As a result, the Xorg synaptics driver never sees
hw->fingerWidth become non-zero in SynapticsDetectFinger and never
detects that I've mashed my palm into the large touchpad on this
  machine.

  Expected:

Kill X. Run evtest(1). Select touchpad device. Move touchpad. See
ABS_TOOL_WIDTH records in the event stream.

  Actual:

No ABS_TOOL_WIDTH records even though the device claims to support
  them in its capability bits.

Upgrading zfs-initramfs breaks booting from a zfs root

Status in zfs-linux package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
Upgrading to zfs-initramfs 0.6.5.9-4ubuntu1 breaks my boot.

I've EFI and a small ext2 boot partition, and the rest of my SDD is a
zfs pool. After upgrade I'm dropped in the initramfs shell and no
  zpools are available.

Downgrading to 0.6.5.8-0ubuntu9 makes it boot again.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1673344] [NEW] Ubuntu 16.04 doesn't recongnize wifi card after loosing signal completely (intel 7260) even when I try to restart network manager

2017-03-16 Thread Rick T
Public bug reported:

My wireless connection completely disappears and isn't recognized along
with my NIC card and doesn't come back until I reboot even if I restart
network manager.

I've attached the required files showing what my wifi information looks like
connected and what it looks like when the problem occurs hopefully a fix or
workaround can be found this happens several times a day.

Steps:

1) I boot up type in sudo iwconfig wlp3s0 power off (turn off power
management)

2)
$ iwconfig
enp4s0f2 no wireless extensions.

lono wireless extensions.

wlp3s0IEEE 802.11 ESSID:"2.4ghz"
  Mode:Managed Frequency:2.437 GHz Access Point:

  Bit Rate=144.4 Mb/s Tx-Power=22 dBm
  Retry short limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
  Power Management:off
  Link Quality=60/70 Signal level=-50 dBm
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
  Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:55 Missed beacon:0

3) I loose wifi using 5ghz or 2.4ghz after a certain amount of time

4) sudo rmmod iwlmvm iwlwifi && sudo modprobe iwlmvm iwlwifi
5) sudo systemctl restart network-manager.service

I do a **iwconfig** and **I'm missing wlp3s0IEEE 802.11
ESSID:"2.4ghz"**

$ iwconfig
enp4s0f2 no wireless extensions.

lono wireless extensions.

I have to reboot to get my wifi back and for ubunutu to recognize my
wifi card back how can I prevent this.
