After kernel 4.13.0-40, my mouse cursor started to have a bigger trail
then before, lagging and stutter during some load. During loading
redhift mouse experience more lag.
I'm not able to reproduce this on a physical host. Works just fine for
all the 32-bit kernels that I tested. When you say 'black screen', do
you not get anything at all? Not even some BIOS flickering in the
beginning?
What do you get when you run the following:

must have done something to install it. At any rate the problem looks to
be with a post-update script installed by lilo
The linux-firmware package for xenial contains firmware for all
supported kernel versions. You are running unsupported kernel versions,
so the firmware you need may not be present and you may need to download
it manually.

This is not a problem with linux-firmware itself, it does is trigger a
rebuild of the initrd for all installed kernels but it's initramfs-tools
which does this. It will try to generate an initrd for all kernels with
