It might be interesting that I can boot without pci=noacpi / noapic on
an installation of gentoo/openrc on all recently-ish kernels. Soft
lockups seem to be triggered on almost all distributions while the
systemd service udev hangs. I will test it out, since BIOS update 1.11
did not help any.

Same problem here, with Ubuntu 18.04, Nvidia drivers 410.
After commenting the following lines:

So far today, the laptop hasn't crashed completely but Firefox and
Thundebird are crashing constantly making it impossible to get work
done. As soon as I restore the crashed Firefox session the whole program
crashes again.
I attached that part of syslog of the last hour.

Hello Daniel, or anyone else affected,
Accepted update-notifier into xenial-proposed. The package will build
now and be available at https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/update-
notifier/3.168.10 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed repository.

Temporary fixed on my system with hacky way:
sudo rm /boot/*139*
sudo rm /boot/*140*
sudo update-grub
sudo reboot
But still waiting for official update.
