[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1821663] Re: [snd_hda_codec_realtek] repeating crackling noise after 19.04 upgrade

2019-03-30 Thread Hui Wang
I checked the new patches between rc3 and rc4, there are only some minor
changes. In theory they will not introduce this problem.

Please test this dkms on the rc4, this dkms contains the same driver as
rc3, let us test kernel-rc4+hda sound driver-rc3 and see if the noise
still happens or not.

sudo dpkg -i oem-audio-hda-daily-dkms_rc3_all.deb
reboot
check if there is still noise

thx.

Title:
[snd_hda_codec_realtek] repeating crackling noise after 19.04 upgrade

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I'm experiencing a repeating crackling noise after 19.04 upgrade that
start just after the boot and before the login.

I tried a bunch of fixes for pulseaudio I found googling, including this one
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PulseAudio/Troubleshooting#Glitches.2C_skips_or_crackling
   and this one
https://askubuntu.com/questions/864608/audio-crackle-through-headphones.
Neither of which helped.

The command "killall pulseaudio" usually stop the noise for 10
  seconds, then the noise restart.

The system was running smoothly on 18.10

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1822363] Re: Booting hangs when USB 3.0 Etron EJ168 PCI card is detected

2019-03-30 Thread Mike
11.10 works without any problem with card and devices connected.
disco-desktop-amd64.iso Ubuntu 19.4 hangs like Ubuntu 18.4 in the same manner.
It must be something in xhci-pci.c driver broken. It is important to me and
should be avoided by:
1) skipping error when it can't be resolved during boot (it shouldn't prevent
Ubuntu 18.4-19.4 system load)
2) the xhci should be "unbuged" besouse it is workable in 11.10.

Title:
Booting hangs when USB 3.0 Etron EJ168 PCI card is detected

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I have installed Etron EJ168 PCI USB 3.0 [1B6F:7023] which briliantly works
in any Windows OS (I use multiboot PC) on my Conroe865PE AGP/PCI Intel
Kentsfield QX6800 system with classic BIOS (non UEFI).
There are no devices connected to PCI USB card during boot.

The desktop Ubuntu 18.04 kernel 4.15.0-46-generic freezes with this
card during boot (see attached "photo log" with boot and grub
options). I can't access/login Ubuntu or console. It was checked and
confirmed on ubuntu-18.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso LIVE CD desktop (with
  acpi=off option too).

Previously I was used and removed USB 3.0 NEC Renesas upd720200 PCI card
[1033:0194], which was partially workable under my installation of Ubuntu 18.04
and Windows. It had problems from time to time with FW load from card on start
and not detecting USB devices connected even if FW present.
I tried and also removed USB 3.0 NEC Renesas upd720202 PCI card [1912:0015]
which also was partially workable in the same way (other card bios and newer
NEC chip). System was fully bootable with NEC cards.

The Etron EJ168 works superb on Windows OS's with directly or with hub
connections with USB devices.
I can assist in any way to solve this bug as IT Professional.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1791427] Re: Touchpad and/or trackpoint stop working after S3 suspend on Lenovo X1 Carbon 6th

2019-03-30 Thread Thorsten
Hi, please make sure you have followed all the steps posted by AaronMa
(#94):

1. ensure that the i2c-i801 is loaded! Ubuntu currently blacklists this module
by default in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf - Thus, the patches won’t have any
effect.
2. ensure that your touchpad AND trackpoint firmware is updated

Troubleshooting:
1. Maybe something went wrong during your kernel build/patching. Try the kernel
from AaronaMa in #94. Does the issue still occur?
1. AaronaMa has implemented the touchpad nosleep option as described in #133
and #155
you can activate it with echo 1 > /sys/devices/rmi4-00/nosleep but you have to
do this after every boot.

If it is still not working, you have to provide logs like
dmesg/journalctl. Moreover, try following the steps in #94

Title:
Touchpad and/or trackpoint stop working after S3 suspend on Lenovo X1
  Carbon 6th

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Triaged

Bug description:
  Ubuntu 18.04.1

Terminology in case we use different terms:
touchpad - just the rectangular touch-sensitive surface below the keyboard
(xinput lists it as Synaptics TM3288-011)
trackpoint - the red thingy built into the keyboard + 3 physical buttons
below the keyboard (trackpoint and buttons are integrated together; listed in
xinput as TPPS/2 Elan TrackPoint)

On September 7th, 2018, Lenovo has issued a BIOS update (v1.30), which
enables proper S3 deep sleep state - users no longer have to patch
DSDT tables to get it. It can be enabled in the BIOS settings. In X1
carbon 6th generation models that have NFC, when laptop wakes from
suspend by opening the lid, in most cases both touchpad and trackpoint
stop working completely. They are also no longer listed when running
xinput command. Sometimes just one of them stops working, usually the
trackpoint. In some rare cases it is possible to bring them back by
  using these commands:

  echo -n none > /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/drvctl
  echo -n reconnect > /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/drvctl
  rmmod psmouse
  modprobe psmouse

These worked properly when waking up from S2Idle sleep state (had
these in a script that runs after waking the machine from suspend),
but with S3 deep sleep these rarely work and the only way to bring
back touchpad and/or trackpoint is turning off the machine and turning
it on (restart does not help).

I could not find any pattern that would show when the input devices
stop working or start working again using the commands mentioned
above. It's completely random from my perspective.

This is happening on the standard issue 4.15.0-33-generic kernel that
shipped with my Ubuntu 18.04 (with updates), as well as with newer
mainline kernels, such as the newest point versions of 4.17, 4.18 and
  4.19 RC2.

This happens regardless of whether "blacklist i2c_i801" is commented
out in /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf or not. It happens regardless of
whether "psmouse.synaptics_intertouch=1" is passed as grub parameter.
Presence of TLP does not make it better, nor worse.

It appears that non-NFC models are not affected. I know at least one
Arch Linux user who has the exact same model, but without this issue.
I'm using synaptics driver (no libinput installed), he uses libinput
and doesn't have synaptics, if that information is of any use.
Libinput does not seem to help.

This forum thread also has more details from users who updated their
BIOS to get S3 suspend: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Linux-
  Discussion/X1-Carbon-Gen-6-cannot-enter-deep-sleep-S3-state-aka-

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1821641] Re: [HP Elitebook 840 G1] Screen is upside down on 19.04 daily

2019-03-30 Thread Woodcarver
I have now reverted all the way back to the kernel I use on 18.04 (4.15)
and the issue still happens.

The accelerometer position in both 18.04 and 19.04
(/sys/devices/platform/lis3lv02d/) read the same.

Attached is a video of the moment when the flip occurs, just before the
desktop loads. Sorry for filming the screen like a savage.

[HP Elitebook 840 G1] Screen is upside down on 19.04 daily

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
On the 19.04 daily image (2019-03-24), the screen on my laptop is
completely upside down, from the moment the GUI loads. This does not
  happen on 18.04 and 18.10.

It appears to be an accelerometer issue since holding the laptop
upside down flips the image to its correct orientation - basically the
functionality of the accelerometer is suddenly inverted.

Please contact me if you want me to help testing the issue on my
  hardware. Thanks!

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1819362] Re: HUAWEI E3531 HSPA+ USB Stick "please report the device ID to the Linux USB developers"

2019-03-30 Thread Josua Dietze
Syncing Ubuntu usb_modeswitch is hardly possible because it's a fork of
the original, using a C implementation of the wrapper script.

I'd just throw out anything that's related to module loading and driver
binding.

Re: [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1821663] Re: [snd_hda_codec_realtek] repeating crackling noise after 19.04 upgrade

2019-03-30 Thread Alessandro
I've done many tests. The last working kernel is:

Linux IMEDIA-5204 5.0.0-05rc3-generic #201901202030 SMP Mon Jan 21 01:33:02
UTC 2019 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

while from the next release on, the system make noise.
The first release with noise is:

Linux IMEDIA-5204 5.0.0-05rc4-generic #201901272036 SMP Mon Jan 28
01:38:37 UTC 2019 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

Title:
[snd_hda_codec_realtek] repeating crackling noise after 19.04 upgrade

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
I'm experiencing a repeating crackling noise after 19.04 upgrade that
start just after the boot and before the login.

I tried a bunch of fixes for pulseaudio I found googling, including this one
https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/PulseAudio/Troubleshooting#Glitches.2C_skips_or_crackling
   and this one
https://askubuntu.com/questions/864608/audio-crackle-through-headphones.
Neither of which helped.

The command "killall pulseaudio" usually stop the noise for 10
  seconds, then the noise restart.

The system was running smoothly on 18.10

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1791427] Re: Touchpad and/or trackpoint stop working after S3 suspend on Lenovo X1 Carbon 6th

I tried Jarek's band-aids - a long time ago, admittedly - and they did
not work on my machine.

Sometimes just one of them stops working, usually the
trackpoint. In some rare cases it is possible to bring them back by
  using these commands:

  echo -n none > /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/drvctl
  echo -n reconnect > /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/drvctl
  rmmod psmouse
  modprobe psmouse

This forum thread also has more details from users who updated their
BIOS to get S3 suspend: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Linux-
  Discussion/X1-Carbon-Gen-6-cannot-enter-deep-sleep-S3-state-aka-
  Suspend-to/td-p/3998182/page/27

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1821936] Re: No sound output on Zen AIO 27 Z272SD_Z272SD

2019-03-30 Thread Derek Gordon
That did not help.

I ran apport-collect again for this ticket after booting mainline
5.1-rc2 and testing with the alsa flag added.

I will now remove the flag and reboot to try without the flag using this
mainline and will do the same.

** Description changed:

I find this to be an issue with current LTS 18.04's latest 4.19 kernel.

Bug description:
Description: In the event a particular Azure cloud instance is
rebooted it's possible that it may never recover and the instance will
  break indefinitely.

In My case, it was a kernel panic. See specifics below..

  Series: Disco
  Instance Size: Basic_A3

I had a simple script to reboot an instance (X) amount of times, I chose 50,
so the machine would power cycle by issuing a "reboot" from the terminal prompt
just as a user would. Once the machine came up, it captured dmesg and other
bits then rebooted again until it reached 50.

After the 4th attempt, my script timed out, I took a look at the
instance console log and the following displayed on the console.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1822363] Re: Booting hangs when USB 3.0 Etron EJ168 PCI card is detected

2019-03-30 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
According to LP: #1050778 it used to work on Ubuntu 11.10.

11.10 uses linux kernel v3.0, can you also test the kernel?

It was checked and
confirmed on ubuntu-18.04.1-desktop-amd64.iso LIVE CD desktop (with
  acpi=off option too).

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1819362] Re: HUAWEI E3531 HSPA+ USB Stick "please report the device ID to the Linux USB developers"

2019-03-30 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
According to Bjorn Mork [1], this modem should work out of the box
without usb-modeswtich.

So what do we need to do to make it work under Ubuntu? Sync usb-
modeswitch with the upstream version?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1796582] Re: Internal microphone not working on Lenovo Ideapad 330S-15ARR

2019-03-30 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
If v4.15 kernel works 100% of the time, then a kernel bisection can find
the regression point easily.

Title:
Internal microphone not working on Lenovo Ideapad 330S-15ARR

Status in Linux:
  Confirmed
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
The internal microphone on this troublesome laptop stopped working
after upgrading from Bionic to Cosmic. There is no signal from the
microphone with kernel 4.18.0-7 or 4.18.0-8.

This DOES work correctly with kernel 4.15.0-34 that is still present
  on Cosmic after the upgrade.

I recommend Canonical gets this laptop for testing since a ton of
stuff is troublesome on this Raven Ridge laptop. Would be a good
specimen to get support for this platform improved.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1791427] Re: Touchpad and/or trackpoint stop working after S3 suspend on Lenovo X1 Carbon 6th

2019-03-30 Thread Christian Zosel
@Jarek: Thank you for sharing the workaround, it also works for me 100%
of the time!

I tried the 5.0.1 Kernel with the patches - in the beginning I was
hopeful because the touchpad and trackpoint survived a few sleep/wakeup
cycles, but starting from day 2 the issues returned (sometimes the
touchpad didn't even work after rebooting). Now I'm back on the 4.15.0
where the Trackpoint survives maybe 2/3 of the sleeps and otherwise
there's still the workaround above.

Sometimes just one of them stops working, usually the
trackpoint. In some rare cases it is possible to bring them back by
  using these commands:

  echo -n none > /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/drvctl
  echo -n reconnect > /sys/devices/platform/i8042/serio1/drvctl
  rmmod psmouse
  modprobe psmouse

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1821936] Re: No sound output on Zen AIO 27 Z272SD_Z272SD

2019-03-30 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
Ah, that's because the model name wasn't included in kernel v4.18. Please use
mainline kernel [1]
with the kernel parameter.

I find this to be an issue with current LTS 18.04's latest 4.19
