Hi, as an update, on my ASUS-GL503VD the erratic behaviour disappeared
around 5.2.x but still disconnected from time to time. I'm on 5.3.7 now
and disconnecting remains.
I just use: 'modprobe -r i2c_hid' and 'modprobe i2c_hid' to restore it
and keep on going.

Lockdown is enabled in focal, and the default mode when booted without
any secure boot scheme is NONE.
When booted under a secure boot scheme, we had previously forced the
CONFIDENTIALITY mode for lockdown. But we have now scaled that back, and
the kernel in focal-proposed sets the mode to

These are kernels copied from the -proposed pocked, after we've built

This problem is caused by an upstream memory management feature called
watermark boosting. Normally, when a memory allocation fails and falls
back to the page allocator, the page allocator will wake up kswapd to
free up pages in order to make the memory allocation succeed. kswapd
tries to free
Looking up the options I see that on ppc64el there is (on focal/20.04):

Ubuntu Server 20.04 will be shipped with a kernel 5.4 - and beta is planned to
be released on April 2nd (so next Thursday) - things are largely freezed
already.
