[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1968040] Re: [i915] Blanked screen doesn't wake up after locking [drmModeAtomicCommit: Argument invalide] [drmModeAtomicCommit: Invalid argument]

2024-01-03 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Actually the issue I'm thinking of might be fixed by
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/mutter/-/merge_requests/2620 coming in
mutter 46... If not already fixed in the kernel because it looks like
this bug only affects jammy?

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2047780] Re: BlueZ release 5.71

2024-01-03 Thread Daniel van Vugt
The build is failing:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bluez/5.71-0ubuntu1

But I don't know how to reproduce the failure. Certainly it builds on
both noble and mantic, and installs, and works for me. Is this because
Launchpad is using a focal toolchain?

  5d5fea7c79a7 drm/i915/rpl: Update pci ids for RPL P/U

  [Test case]
  1. check the system with GPU ID A7AC or A7AD
  2. boot the system into desktop and connecting a monior by HDMI cable with
HDMI port or Type-C port
  3. make sure the external monitor works

  [Where problems could occur]

  AMD GPU display is blank when set lower resolution than native mode on eDP.

  [Fix]
  On eDP the invalid modes are set, call mode set for valid modes instead.

  [Test]
  Tested on hardware, all the modes shown in gnome menu can be set OK.

  [Where problems could occur]
  It may break AMD display.

  This issue is not reproduced on v6.2- kernel versions, so SRU for

  Kubuntu 23.10: Kernel Bug Invoking Undefined Behavior on Boot

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Apologies if what this post will entail is not the correct way to
  report a bug. This is my first time reporting one for a linux distro,
  and I'm more or less doing so based on information I was told while
  investigating a separate issue related to my audio devices.

  On boot, along with the error I was looking for, I noticed a number of
  UBSan errors pop up. I asked about them in a linux-related discord
  server and their first question was whether the kernel was compiled
  with Clang. Now, because I never mess with the kernel, I told them I
  wasn't sure. That was when they told me that it's a kernel bug that
  invoked undefined behavior and left my kernel in an erroneous state.
  Here are the errors in question:

  [   5.036942] UBSAN: array-index-out-of-bounds in
/build/linux-SXblTa/linux-6.5.0/drivers/gpu/drm/amd/amdgpu/../pm/powerplay/hwmgr/smu7_hwmgr.c:3669:4
  [ 5.036951] index 2 is out of range for type
'ATOM_Tonga_MCLK_Dependency_Record [1]'
  [   5.041843] UBSAN: array-index-out-of-bounds in
/build/linux-SXblTa/linux-6.5.0/drivers/gpu/drm/amd/amdgpu/../pm/powerplay/hwmgr/smu7_hwmgr.c:3676:4
  [ 5.041852] index 7 is out of range for type
'ATOM_Polaris_SCLK_Dependency_Record [1]'

  Because I'm not 100% sure what all goes into a bug report like this, I
  will be providing the output of lsb_release -rd, hyfetch, and creating
  a list of my system's specs in hopes that it will help provide some
  sort of clarity.

  lsb_release -rd Output:
  ---
  No LSB modules are available.
  Description: Ubuntu 23.10
  Release: 23.10

  Hyfetch Output:
  ---
  OS: Kubuntu 23.10 x86_64
  Kernel: 6.5.0-14-generic
  Uptime: 28 mins
  Packages: 3 (pipx), 4178 (dpkg), 43 (flatpak), 24 (snap)
  Shell: fish 3.6.1 (yes I know it's deprecated but I prefer it over other
shells)
  Resolution: 1920x1080, 1920x1080
  DE: Plasma 5.27.8 [KF5 5.110.0] [Qt 5.15.10] (x11)
  WM: KWin

  System Specs:
  -
  CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 2600x
  GPU: Sapphire NITRO+ Radeon RX 570
  MOBO: ASUS PRIME B450M-A II
  RAM: TEAMGROUP TUFF Gaming 2x8 GB at 2400 MHz
  PSU: Corsair RM850x (850W PSU)
  SSD: Western Digital Blue 1 TB SSD

  I'll be honest and say I'm not even sure if my system specs are
  required for a bug report like this, but just in case I figured I'd
  provide them anyway, as maybe it's a hardware-specific thing, or
  something specific to my system entirely. I'm not sure though. I also
  went ahead and included an attachment of the photo I took of the error
  itself, maybe it'll help in some way. I'm also unsure if there's a
  package related to this bug, or what that package would be. Sorry.

  As for the last two things stated in the guidelines for reporting a
  bug, what I expected to happen was to see the error about my USB
  device along with some of the general jargon that pops up on boot that
  I typically don't have to worry about. Instead what happened is that
  based on what someone else told me, I found a bug in my kernel,
  although I'm not knowledgeable enough to know if it's a serious bug,
  or something that's really not that big of a deal. I'll leave that one
  up to you guys

Title:
  Kubuntu 23.10: Kernel Bug Invoking Undefined Behavior on Boot

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Apologies if what this post will entail is not the correct way to
  report a bug. This is my first time reporting one for a linux distro,
  and I'm more or less doing so based on information I was told while
  investigating a separate issue related to my audio devices.

  On boot, along with the error I was looking for, I noticed a number of
  UBSan errors pop up. I asked about them in a linux-related discord
  server and their first question was whether the kernel was compiled
  with Clang. Now, because I never mess with the kernel, I told them I
  wasn't sure. That was when they told me that it's a kernel bug that
  invoked undefined behavior and left my kernel in an erroneous state.
  Here are the errors in question:

  [   5.036942] UBSAN: array-index-out-of-bounds in
/build/linux-SXblTa/linux-6.5.0/drivers/gpu/drm/amd/amdgpu/../pm/powerplay/hwmgr/smu7_hwmgr.c:3669:4
  [ 5.036951] index 2 is out of range for type
'ATOM_Tonga_MCLK_Dependency_Record [1]'
  [   5.041843] UBSAN: array-index-out-of-bounds in
/build/linux-SXblTa/linux-6.5.0/drivers/gpu/drm/amd/amdgpu/../pm/powerplay/hwmgr/smu7_hwmgr.c:3676:4
  [ 5.041852] index 7 is out of range for type
'ATOM_Polaris_SCLK_Dependency_Record [1]'

  Because I'm not 100% sure what all goes into a bug report like this, I
  will be providing the output of lsb_release -rd, hyfetch, and creating
  a list of my system's specs in hopes that it will help provide some
  sort of clarity.

  lsb_release -rd Output:
  ---
  No LSB modules are available.
  Description: Ubuntu 23.10
  Release: 23.10

  Hyfetch Output:
  ---
  OS: Kubuntu 23.10 x86_64
  Kernel: 6.5.0-14-generic
  Uptime: 28 mins
  Packages: 3 (pipx), 4178 (dpkg), 43 (flatpak), 24 (snap)
  Shell: fish 3.6.1 (yes I know it's deprecated but I prefer it over other
shells)
  Resolution: 1920x1080, 1920x1080
  DE: Plasma 5.27.8 [KF5 5.110.0] [Qt 5.15.10] (x11)

I typically use filterdiff to get the packaging changes, and review
specific source files as necessary (including copyright changes in the
diff, which can be important, even if you're just using a script for
it).

Thanks for your help here. I apologize for any undue stress. I will
review this in the morning, unless someone else would like the
opportunity to fix this sooner.

Title:
  Turn off non-zynqmp arch support

Status in linux-xilinx-zynqmp package in Ubuntu:
  In Progress

Bug description:
  [ Impact ]

   * This is an optimized kernel for zynqmp range of devices.
   * Currently about 14% of kernel build is targeting non-zynqmp devices, which
is dead code unused in production
   * This reduces kernel build time, kernel image & modules size, amount of
required firmware, and makes initrd smaller.
   * This reduces peak memory usage on boot as well
   * This will loose ability to execute this exact same kernel build on
non-zynqmp device, for benchmarking purposes generic kernel should be used
instead.

  [ Test Plan ]

   * Ensure newly produced kernel installs and boots on Ubuntu Server
  and Ubuntu Core target devices without any loss of peripherals and
  stock devices.

  [ Where problems could occur ]

   * This changes may limit ability to smoke-test this kernel on non-zynqmp
devices, if needed support for individual CPUs can be turned back on. Or
ideally any such testing should move to zynqmp devices. (examples of
potentially interesting things to turn back on upon request are QCOM APPLE
suppport for running this kernel on Arm Laptops for developer convenience)
   * It is expected for KVM and QEMU to continue to work as both host and guest

  [ Other Info ]

   * Anything else you think is useful to include
   * Anticipate questions from users, SRU, +1 maintenance, security teams and
the Technical Board
   * and address these questions in advance

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2047780] Re: BlueZ release 5.71

2024-01-03 Thread Simon Quigley
I very much dislike reviewing packages this way. For a package to be in
the sponsorship queue, it needs to have a debdiff, not a debian.tar.xz.
I understand that it's a new upstream release, but that does not excuse
the need for a debdiff, even if you *also* include these files.

I'm uploading this as a courtesy to you and the Desktop Team. Please,
don't do it like this again, as I will reject it.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2045796] Re: Update bnxt with bug fixes and support for Broadcom 5760X network adapters

2024-01-03 Thread Jeff Lane 
** Description changed:

  [IMPACT]

  This is requested by one of our larger server hardware partners and the
  upstream (Broadcom) to update the bnxt network driver code to add some
  bug fixes and support for the newer 5760X adapters into Mantic with the
  goal of having these land in 22.04.4 HWE and the installer environment
  via the HWE kernel.

  Missing these patches will mean customers running this hardware will not
  be able to use it with Ubuntu Server 22.04 LTS until the much later
  22.04.5 point release, setting up a months-long gap in support for these
  adapters.

  [FIXES]

- These are all in mainline and pick cleanly with the exception of the two
- noted at the end of this section.
+ These are all in mainline at 6.6-6.7 and linux-next queued for 6.8 and
+ pick cleanly with the exception of the two noted at the end of this
+ section. For Mantic all are picked. For Noble, only the subset
+ currently in linux-next will be picked, depending on what happens in our
+ Noble tree during the cycle.

this ticket I'll add my original comment here, too - sorry if this
breaks launchpad's rules.

6.2.0-39.40~22.04.1 includes upstream stable patchset 2023-10-10
(https://launchpad.net/bugs/2038969) with the TPM changes 'Disable RNG
for all AMD fTPMs' and 'Add a helper for checking hwrng enabled'.

This causes on some Intel devices that TPM does not work (in my case a
Gigabyte Brix GB-BSi5-1135G7).

Upstream discussed this issue in
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=217804 and a fix was found:
https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/8f7f35e5aa6f2182eabcfa3abef4d898a48e9aa8
(already linked by ~badsmoke in an earlier comment)

  For a quick respin for oem-6.5 kernel with usbio-drivers (for bug
  2041800 and a last minute fix bug 2047899), we're to embed usbio-
  drivers into oem-6.5 and remove it when all the bits are in position
  under formal process.

  While IPU6 drivers are still under development, all the related dkms
  packages were prebuilt as linux-modules-{ipu6,ivsc}, and we're
  expecting a new linux-modules-usbio here. The `debian/scripts/dkms-
  build` does not support this yet, so we are separating the mechanism
  part here, and the usbio dkms source import in bug 2041800.

Bug description:
  BugLink: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/2046681

  [Impact]
  The customer Dell provide the edid for one more panel, this panel also needs
to disable the psr2, otherwise the display will not work correctly

  This PR is just a workaround, the upstream bug is here:
  https://gitlab.freedesktop.org/drm/intel/-/issues/9739#note_2187863

  After the upstream fix this bug with a real fix, I will revert the
  workaround and backport the real fix to Noble and Jammy oem-kernel.

  [Fix]
  There is no real fix so far, ODM recommends to use a workaround to disable
PSR2, this is a temp solution, after we get the real fix, we could revert the
temp workaround.

  [Test case]

  booting with the patched kernel, If the pannel's edid is in the qurik
  list, the PSR2 will be disabled (checking
  /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_edp_psr_status; if the pannel's edid is
  not in the quirk list, the graphic driver will work as before.

  [Where problems could occur]
  It is possible that the temp solution couldn't work, then the screen will
still show garbage and the screen is flicking, another possible regression is
the screen has no problem before, but after running patched kernel, the PSR2 is
disabled and the system cost more power, but this possibility is very low, I
tested the patched on some dell machines, all worked well.

  24.04 LTS is likely to be used for 10 years. And if allowed to overrun

  Also note small inodes cannot be used by ext4.

  I would like to request if we can turn off COMPAT_32BIT_TIME on every

  This needs to be a per-arch decision, potentially taking into

 This is relevant on all 32-bit architectures, and 64-bit architectures

  == SRU Justification ==
  [Impact]
  Some Atom based system cannot boot on kernel 6.2 because of atomisp
  driver.

  [Fix]
  Disable the driver via config, suggested by the driver dev.

  [Test]
  Users confirmed disabling the config works.

  [Where problems could occur]
  The ISP camera dever worked on Linux. So disabling it shouldn't
  introduce any surprise.

  == Original Bug Report ==
  Computers with Intel Atom CPU will not boot with Kernel 6.2.0-20 OR any other
Kernel in 6.2 series or Kernel 6.3.0.

  This bug affects all Intel Atom CPU computers in all Linux
  distributions making impossible to install or boot to OS with kernel
  6.2 or higher.

  The bug is caused by Intel atomisp camera driver module which has
  firmware missing: shisp_2401a_v21.bin. Missing firmware causes a
  watchdog bug notice and Soft Lockup of boot sequence.

  NEW SOLUTION AND NOTICE TO UBUNTU KERNEL MAINTAINERS, April 29th:
  The following persons are in charge of atomisp kernel development:

  Hans de Goede (maintainer:STAGING - ATOMISP DRIVER)
  Mauro Carvalho Chehab (maintainer:STAGING - ATOMISP
DRIVER)
  Sakari Ailus  (reviewer:STAGING - ATOMISP
DRIVER)
  Greg Kroah-Hartman  (supporter:STAGING SUBSYSTEM)
  linux-me...@vger.kernel.org (open list:STAGING - ATOMISP DRIVER)
  linux-stag...@lists.linux.dev (open list:STAGING SUBSYSTEM)
  linux-ker...@vger.kernel.org (open list)

  April 29th Hans de Goede adviced me personally(
  https://github.com/linux-surface/linux-surface/issues/1095 ), that
  atomisp driver is still in development and should be disabled. By
  disabling driver he meant disabling atomisp modules in kernel.

  OLD SOLUTION FOR THIS BUG:

  Copying (installing) firmware shisp_2401a0_v21.bin from:

  https://github.com/intel-aero/meta-intel-aero-
  base/blob/master/recipes-kernel/linux/linux-yocto/shisp_2401a0_v21.bin

  to /lib/firmware will solve the bug (partially - it still gives error
  messages - but at least the computer boots).**

  (dmesg.log with shisp-file with kernel 6.2.0-06 and 6.3.0-06 as
  attachments 9. and 10.)

  (Another solution - which Manjaro kernel maintainer did - was to
  disable atomisp and related modules).

  Afterwards Intel Atom CPU computer will be able to boot with kernel
  6.2.

  DMESG.LOG OF KUBUNTU 23.04 LIVE USB AND MORE INFORMATION IN:
  https://askubuntu.com/questions/1464926/not-able-to-boot-
  kubuntu-23-04-with-kernel-6-2-and-intel-atom-cpu

  The last stable Ubuntu Kernel Intel Atom CPU computer will boot with
  is 6.1.25.

  This bug was already in 5.19, as you can see from dmesg.logs. It
  appears that atomisp failes to launch in both 5.19.0-40 and 6.1.25 but
  still the computer boots.

  This bug is also reported in Manjaro ( " https://github.com/linux-
  surface/linux-surface/issues/1095 ")and Arch Linux ("
  https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=283920 ") so it is not
  limited to Ubuntu Kernels.

  This bug has already been reported for Ubuntu 23.04 Beta in Ubuntu
  bugtracking system (" https://www.mail-archive.com/kernel-

Bug description:
  [SRU Justifications]

  == kernels ==

  [Impact]

  Audio doesn't work on Dell Orchid Bay MLK2/Maya Bay MLK platforms.

  [Fix]

  Kernel driver, ALSA ucm, and firmware fixes are needed. For the kernel part,
following upstream commits are mandatory:
  * commit e70ca580e9c8 ("ASoC: Intel: soc-acpi-intel-mtl-match: add rt713
rt1316 config")
  * commit b6d6e5abf645 ("ASoC: Intel: sof_sdw_rt_sdca_jack_common: add rt713
support")
  * commit 5124d08d0ea4 ("ASoC: Intel: sof_sdw_rt712_sdca: construct
cards->components by name_prefix")
  * commit 817178e7674b ("ASoC: Intel: soc-acpi: rt713+rt1316, no sdw-dmic
config"): linux-next

  [Test Case]

  1. enable -proposed pocket and install the latest kernel
  2. browse youtube, hold backspace on virtual terminal or whatever makes some
noises
  3. expected sound system brought up and reacts accordingly

  [Where problems could occur]

  While this enables new devices on new platforms, we may bump into
  burst noises, power consumption problems at corner cases not covered
  by test program.

  [Other Info]

  This is to enable sof devices on Intel MTL platform, which is only
  supported since 6.5 kernels, e.g. oem-6.5. Nominate Noble, Mantic, and
  Jammy.

  == firmware-sof ==

  [Impact]

  Audio doesn't work on Dell Orchid Bay MLK2/Maya Bay MLK platforms.

  [Fix]

  Kernel driver, ALSA ucm, and firmware fixes are needed. For firmware-
  sof, it's the upstream commit 99466c05f15f ("Add Intel SOF2.7.2
  topology files").

  [Test Case]

  1. enable -proposed pocket and install firmware-sof-signed
  2. browse youtube, hold backspace on virtual terminal or whatever makes some
noises
  3. expected sound system brought up and reacts accordingly

  2. make sure ModemManager has probed it:
  ```
  $ mmcli -L
  /org/freedesktop/ModemManager1/Modem/0 [Fibocom Wireless Inc.] Fibocom
FM101-GL Module
  ```

  [Where problems could occur]

  New hardware, still under development. Maybe we'll have to
  enable/patch for its vendor specific interface or so.

  [Other Info]

  The first patch is available for v6.6, and the second for v6.7. While
  we're enabling it on linux-oem-6.5/jammy, nominate for linux/noble,
  which is currently on v6.6, and linux-oem-6.5.

  [Impact]

  SRRC (State Radio Regulation of China) compliance readiness check for
  Realtek WLAN.

  [Fix]

  Capability for Realtek WiFi TX power tables load and report from RFE
  (RF front end) parameters is needed. Multiple commits from vanilla
  kernel.

  [Test Case]

  ```
  $ sudo iw reg set CN
  # manually connect to 5G ap : center channel 155 bw 80 M
  $ sudo cat /sys/kernel/debug/ieee80211/phy0/rtw89/txpwr_table | grep -E
  The expected output s
  ```
  Regulatory: CN
  MCS_2TX_80M_0 - NON_BF BF | 10, 9, dbm
  ```
  And verification fail output:
  ```
  Regulatory: CN
  MCS_2TX_80M_0 - NON_BF BF | 15, 10, dbm
  ```
  [Where problems could occur]
  This updates the behaviors and constraints of radio device power
  transmission for rtw89 driver, and must be done for regulatory
  compliance.
  [Other Info]
  As needed for oem-6.5/jammy, nominate only for Noble and
  oem-6.5/jammy.
  == original bug report ==
  New China SRRC compliance readiness check
  Proposed Change:
   - China SRRC updates the testing requirement for 2.4/5GHz, the major changes
are the in-band RSE limit, and EIRP limits.
   - The SRRC updates impact both WLAN modules and platforms. The WLAN
  modules need to complete the new SRRC testing then platform can start
  to apply / renew the new SRRC cert. If platform took several WLAN
  modules but not all of the modules have completed the new SRRC testing
  updates, platform cannot renew/apply the new SRRC cert.
   - The platforms which apply/renew SRRC new standards need to ensure
  the TX power can meet the new RSE/EIRP limits.
  IHV confirmed below driver version can support these requirements.
  Realtek:
  The upstream driver can support SRRC compliance.
[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2047915] [NEW] Jammy update: v6.1.67 upstream stable release
2024-01-03 Thread Timo Aaltonen
Public bug reported:
SRU Justification
Impact:
   The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
   in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
   demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
   by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
   a minimally backported form of that patch. The following upstream
   stable patches should be included in the Ubuntu kernel:
   v6.1.67 upstream stable release
   from git://git.kernel.org/
Linux 6.1.67
Revert "wifi: cfg80211: fix CQM for non-range use"
** Affects: linux-oem-6.1 (Ubuntu)
[Kernel-packages] [Bug 2047909] [NEW] Support standalone dkms source tree embedded in kernel source
2024-01-03 Thread You-Sheng Yang
Public bug reported:
For a quick respin for oem-6.5 kernel with usbio-drivers (for bug
2041800 and a last minute fix bug 2047899), we're to embed usbio-drivers
into oem-6.5 and remove it when all the bits are in position under
formal process.
While IPU6 drivers are still under development, all the related dkms
packages were prebuilt  as linux-modules-{ipu6,ivsc}, and we're
expecting a new linux-modules-usbio here. The `debian/scripts/dkms-
build` does not support this yet, so we are separating the mechanism
part here, and the usbio dkms source import in bug 2041800.
