[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1589756] Re: [Satellite L745, Conexant CX20585, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2016-08-07 Thread Jeremy Bicha
When I tried back in June, the newer mainline kernels didn't work. When
I tried going back in time, I couldn't find an Ubuntu kernel that was
old enough to not have broken sound but new enough to still boot in
Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

I'm thinking you'd want me to identify a kernel that works but it may
take me a while to get around to installing Ubuntu 12.04 or 14.04 on
this computer to try older kernels.

Title:
[Satellite L745, Conexant CX20585, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I don't have any audio output through the laptop's internal speakers
but I get audio fine if I plug in external speakers.

I can get audio working briefly by running

  sudo hda-verb /dev/snd/hwC0D0 0x1f SET_POWER_STATE 0

  as suggested at
  http://lkml.iu.edu/hypermail/linux/kernel/1301.1/02917.html

but it doesn't last very long before the audio turns off again.

Title:
Broadcom bcm43xx WiFI works with Fedora, why not Ubuntu?

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
Hi, I run Ubuntu on an older Dell laptop with Broadcom bcm4312 WiFI.
Basically, it doesn't work out of the box with Ubuntu, and it is extremely
complicated to configure without access to the Internet (when a LAN connection
is not available), which is a frequent problem when the WiFI isn't working. It
requires these unfriendly instructions to get it working:
  https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/Driver/bcm43xx

Fedora 22, on the other hand, works out of the box on this same
  machine.

So, if Fedora 22, with its paranoid insistence on only free software,
is able to make this work out of the box, why can't Ubuntu? "Linux for
human beings" is looking more like Fedora in this case.

I am using a sata drive, and after setting min_power to

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1413008] Re: Kernel BUG shortly after mounting btrfs filesystem

2016-08-07 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Just to ensure unambiguous communication: I cannot test, as testing the
4.0-rc7 kernel destroyed the filesystem that exhibited this bug for me.

Kernel BUG shortly after mounting btrfs filesystem

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
This bug happens entirely reproducibly after mounting a multi-disc
btrfs filesystem I have. It is reproducible on the current Vivid 3.18
kernel and the mainline 3.19-rc5 build; I recall this bug also
happening on Utopic's 3.16 kernel, but don't have logs.

All processes that touch the filesystem then hang indefinitely in the

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1566302] Re: Ubuntu 16.04: Suspend freezes the system after upgrade to linux image 4.4.0-16

2016-08-07 Thread Adam Thiede
I'm having the same issue on an Asus X550LA - Haswell i5 with Intel HD graphics.
I've tried using both 4.4 and 4.6, but this issue still persists. I've been
able to get hibernate working via default instructions (pm-hibernate worked by
default) but the computer just reboots after resuming from sleep. There are a
few settings in the BIOS to look at - power consumption while asleep and resume
when opening lid will be worth tinkering with, but I've tried many fixes and
none seem to work.

Ubuntu 16.04: Suspend freezes the system after upgrade to linux image
  4.4.0-16

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Won't Fix

Bug description:
  I'm using ubuntu 16.04 on a XPS 15 9550.

Suspend/resume worked flawlessly with linux image 4.4.0-15, and after
standard upgrade yesterday (5/04/2016) which installed image 4.4.0-16,
the system freezes when attempting a suspend. I get no response from
the system (nor keyboard, nor screen, nor touchpad), but it gets very
hot, so that it must be running something.

Booting with 4.4.0-15 makes the suspend to work perfectly.

cpuidle in linux-image-2.6.35-19-generic crashes kernel on boot

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
linux-image-2.6.35-19-generic fails to boot on my Lenovo Ideapad S10-3
(Intel Atom N450). linux-image-2.6.35-17-generic boots fine.

While trying out 2.6.36-rc3 from kernel.org, I noticed the same
problem. After just disabling cpuidle support in this kernel, it boots
up fine. I noticed that the most obvious difference between -17 and
  -19 is the cpuidle driver.

Maybe blacklisting the Atom N450 or the N10 chipset in the cpuidle driver
might help for maverick.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1600624] Re: MacBook wifi doesn't work (brcmfmac)

2016-08-07 Thread ldc
Issue is in 4.7.0 too.

Wifi *may* stay working for fairly long periods (2-3 hours) in some
lucky instances.

Tests performed:
1. unload/load brcmfmac module.
Result : Interface is stuck in "Link is not ready"

2. suspend system and resume.
Result : Interface is stuck in "Link is not ready"

3. unload brcmfmac module and suspend. After resume manually load the module
again.
Result : Interface is stuck in "Link is not ready"

4. Warm reboot of the system.
Result : Interface is stuck in "Link is not ready"

5. Full shutdown and cold-boot.
Result : Interface comes up as expected and works for some time.

Have not been able to look into activating debug-output from brcmfmac (module
debug-parameter) yet.

forums suggested that upgrade to kernel 4.7 fixes some of the issues

Firs of all I tried to update my laptop and everything went well.
Performance also improved and slow shutdown and issues of freezing
during shut down also seems to haven't occurred atleast until now.

Later decided to upgrade the kernel on my main work computer as well.
Here again I see improvement in behaviour of my computer but problem
is I see some errors on the boot screen. I have also attached a screen
shot, please check. Never noticed this issue with previous versions of
Linux Mint or after upgrading kernel in the past.

Seemed like issue with CD/DVD drive. I took out the disk out of the
DVD drive and error screen seemed to be vanished. I inserted a blank
CD in the drive and error reappeared but number of error lines
reduced. I want to keep the disk in the drive which I always had in
  the past without any issue.

  Please look into the issue.
