I tried security=none, it didn't help. I also tried the ubuntu-gnome 17.04 live-usb, and it panicked on boot. I ran memtest and found that one of my memory sticks was defective. However, I still have some problems with only two sticks that did pass memtest. This is with the 4.13 ubuntu kernel:
