[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1775124] Re: static noise at login and after screen blanking
[Expired for linux (Ubuntu) because there has been no activity for 60 days.] ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete => Expired -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1775124 Title: static noise at login and after screen blanking Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: At the login screen, and after screen blanking, there often (but not always) is loud static noise from the screen's speaker. In the login-screen, it stops after logging in. After turning the screen back on after blanking (my system settings have "Screen energy saving: Switch off after 10 min" set and "Suspend" disabled), there is the same static noise. One way I found to make is disappear is to invoke "pavucontrol". As soon as it opens, the noise is gone. Seems to me like some gain setting or the like is not properly (re)initialized after screen blanking. Strangely enough, pavucontrol seems to fix this by just starting, with no further user interaction. I have prepared a minimised testcase that showcases the problem with the latest driver. I have also made sure it works fine with both previous versions 384.90-0ubuntu0.16.04.1 and 384.81-0ubuntu1 in a clean install. Here's the code: https://gist.github.com/funchal/bff0a8d6dae5b3ace1a88c392416b5bc It can be compiled using "gcc main.c -lGL -lEGL". The crash is: egl 1.4 a.out: main.c:59: main: Assertion `renderer' failed. Aborted (core dumped) This is caused by NULL return from glGetString for GL renderer. Note this isn't the only way to cause a crash, for example attempting to use the GL context in other ways will also crash, but this shows the regression in a minimal testcase. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1774950] Re: Suspend fails in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 18.04 but works fine in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 17.10 (and on Kubuntu 18.04 using kernel 4.14.47)
I had same symptoms as described earlier in this bug and Rafael's patched kernel fixed it (https://people.canonical.com/~khfeng/lp1774950-s4/). Thank you- the suspend problem was really annoying. Is there a way to determine, or be notified of, which kernel that patch will land in? Thanks again! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1774950 Title: Suspend fails in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 18.04 but works fine in Ubuntu and Kubuntu 17.10 (and on Kubuntu 18.04 using kernel 4.14.47) Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Fix Committed Status in linux source package in Bionic: Confirmed Status in linux source package in Cosmic: Fix Committed Bug description: ===SRU Justification=== [Impact] Systems with acpi-lpss can't do S3/S4 on Bionic. [Test] Users confirmed these patches work for them. [Fix] Commit a192aa923b66a (ACPI / LPSS: Consolidate runtime PM and system sleep handling) applies quirks for both runtime and system suspend. This causes problems for some systems, so avoid using quirks on S3 and S4. [Regression Potential] Low. These patches are in upstream stable, and it brings back driver's old behavior. ===Original Bug Report=== I have installed Kubuntu 18.04 on 3 different machines (my friend's and my own) with no suspend problems but my HP Pavilion 11 x360 does not suspend. It suspends fine with Ubuntu 17.10, Kubuntu 17.10, Devuan Jesse, Devuan ASCII and Windows 10 but fails with Ubuntu 18.04 and Kubuntu 18.04. I have also tried suspend using a live USB of 18.04 on this machine and it fails in the same way, so does not appear to be caused by any additional programs that I had installed. By installing an older kernel (4.14) on Kubuntu 18.04 the suspend function works as expected. Running Kubuntu 18.04 with kernels 4.15, 4.16, 4.17 results in the suspend failure that freezes the machine and requires a hard reset. Correct behaviour is - Screen goes blank, fan goes off, power LED flashes to show machine is in suspend. Pressing power button triggers 'resume' function. What happens - Screen goes blank, fan stays on, power LED stays on. Machine stays in this state and does not respond to any keyboard interaction, mouse movement or power button presses. Ctrl + Alt + f1 (or f2, f3, f4 etc) does not get any response. The only way to use the machine is to shut down by holding down the power button. Checking the logs suggests that the machine believes it is in suspend mode sleep [deep] when it isn't. Having to hard reset to get any response means that the kernel logs say no more than sleep [deep] pm-suspend also results in the same problems with kernels 4.15 and 4.16, but works fine with 4.14. It is curious that a machine that suspends fine on an earlier 4.14 kernel no longer works with 4.15 and above, whilst 3 other machines (including one with pretty similar hardware) do not exhibit this problem. There are only a handful of questions about it on the forums but at least 3 other people have the same problem: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1029405/ubuntu-18-04-crashes-on- resuming-from-suspend https://askubuntu.com/questions/1041369/after-upgrading- from-17-10-ubuntu-18-04-wont-sleep-suspend I am attempting to round up anyone else with the same issue and point them to this bug report. My laptop is HP Pavilion x360 11-n013na Matalaks is Acer Aspire ES1-511 collisionTwo has XPS 9560 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1774950/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages Post to : kernel-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~kernel-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1764645] Re: Bluetooth not working
This is good news for the people using cosmic! Will the fix be released for bionic too? The Ubuntu wiki https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/BugTriage/BugStates defines Fix Committed and Released as follows. Fix Committed Bugs that are marked Fix Committed are considered fixed by a patch which as been committed to the Ubuntu kernel git repository. This does not mean the fix has been released but it should be expected to be in the next kernel upload. There is no determinate time when a kernel upload will happen, it's up to the discretion of the Ubuntu Kernel Team. Fix Released Bugs are moved to a Fix Released state when the fix is readily available in the Ubuntu archive (in the updates pocket). If the Ubuntu kernel developer correctly created the git commit message to include the Launchpad Buglink, the launchpad janitor should automatically move a bug from Fix Committed to Fix Released once the fix is officially available. To summarise, the fix was committed upstream on 2018-06-04 The status of this bug was changed to Fix Committed on 2018-06-20 and also on 2018-07-25 A few new kernel releases for bionic, not containing the fix, have occurred since those dates. Did something go wrong in committing the fix to the bionic kernel? Can we do anything to help getting the fix released for bionic? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1764645 Title: Bluetooth not working Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Status in linux source package in Bionic: Fix Committed Bug description: == SRU Justification == A regression was discovered in Bionic. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1782934] Re: XPS 13 9350 black screen with latest kernel
Thanks Daniel. I've spent all morning testing kernels, and here're my results. Spoiler nothing after 4.15 works reliably, and mostly doesn't work at all. In detail: - 4.15.0-12-generic: Works This is what I get after a minimal install where I don't allow the installer to download updates. - 4.16.0-generic: Fails - 4.17.0-generic: Fails - 4.18.0-rc6: Fails - 4.18.0-rc6: Fails With both of 4.18.0 rc6 and rc7, I can get to the desktop by restarting in recovery mode only. It loses my displays settings (this machine has the hdpi screen), but appears to work otherwise. I'm still not sure how one time out of three, I seem to have gotten a working install on the rc6 kernel. Also with both rcs, at boot time here's what I see: - Black screen (normal) - Turns grey (normal, I expect to see the decrypt screen next) - Flash of terminal text (not normal) - Screen goes dark (not normal) I don't know how to recover the text that flashes up, but if you know where it might be logged etc, I can dig it up. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1782934 Title: XPS 13 9350 black screen with latest kernel Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: With any Ubuntu variant I've tried (Ubuntu, Ubuntu Mate, Ubuntu Budgie), the graphical installer works correctly, but on every post- install login, the screen goes black at the disk decryption screen. The kernel version post-install is 4.14.0-29-generic (edited to add: this SHOULD have read '4.15.0-29-generic'). Other things seem to be working. If I'm careful, I can enter the disk decryption password and tell (via sounds) that I've gotten through to the login screen, but the screen remains dark. This happens with standard or minimal installs. If I then try to boot with the previous kernel--4.15.0-20-generic-- everything works flawlessly. The only non-standard thing about this system is that I replaced the onboard wireless card with an Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 8625. --- I don't have a clue about kernel debugging, but I can provide further system info as needed. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1784152] Re: i2c_hid_get_input floods system logs
Adding "acpi_osi=" to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT fixed the issue for me on my Dell Inspiron 15 7559. Thanks for this solution! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1784152 Title: i2c_hid_get_input floods system logs Status in linux package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: Ubuntu 4.15.0-29.31-generic 4.15.18 After upgrading to kernel version 4.15.0-29 from 4.15.0-23, the system logs are flooded whenever I move the cursor with my touchpad. It looks like this: i2c_hid i2c-ELAN1010:00: i2c_hid_get_input: incomplete report (14/65535) i2c_hid i2c-ELAN1010:00: i2c_hid_get_input: incomplete report (14/65535) i2c_hid i2c-ELAN1010:00: i2c_hid_get_input: incomplete report (14/65535) i2c_hid i2c-ELAN1010:00: i2c_hid_get_input: incomplete report (14/65535) etc... This problem did not occur on the previous kernel version so there must have been a change to the "drivers/hid/i2c-hid/i2c-hid.c" file. This seems to be fixed in a recent commit here: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/commit/ef6eaf27274c0351f7059163918f3795da13199c I am currently running the older kernel version but would still like to be up to date without this flooding happening. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1782934] Re: XPS 13 9350 black screen with latest kernel
** Description changed: With any Ubuntu variant I've tried (Ubuntu, Ubuntu Mate, Ubuntu Budgie), the graphical installer works correctly, but on every post-install login, the screen goes black at the disk decryption screen. - The kernel version post-install is 4.14.0-29-generic. + The kernel version post-install is 4.14.0-29-generic (edited to add: + this SHOULD have read '4.15.0-29-generic'). Just trying to use it as a cpu. So I put in an older (RADEON HD 7850 pitcairn) video card to get some functionality. Without the video card, it boots, but the display is unusable. I can ssh in and see that it works fine as a server, but cannot use terminal or graphical display.
