Regression: acpi reports battery state incorrectly after sleep

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
On Samsung Series 9 laptops the battery state and the charger status
are incorrectly reported in kernel 4.15.

This bug is a regression: it has been fixed in 2012 [1] it used to
work fine until Linux 14.10 (included).

  Quoting Matthew McCallum from
  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/971061/comments/161

  > If I disconnect power, remove the back cover, disconnect both the main
battery and the backup battery, I am able to get power status updates (e.g.
battery will show as charging/charged when plugged in, or just regular battery
when not). Once I sleep, I have to repeat this process if I want the battery
status to work again.
  >
  > `acpi -p` correctly shows the charging state, but `tlp-stat -b` does not.

Title:
Kernel Panic with linux kernel 4.15.0-60 possibly related to network
  subsystem

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  1. Releases: Ubuntu Server 16.04 and Ubuntu Server 18.04
  2. Package: Linux Kernel 4.15.0-60 amd64
  3. What I expected to happen: Not a recurrent kernel panic.
  4. What happened instead: Recurrent kernel panic.

While running Ubuntu 16.04 server on an internet appliance that was
serving as my router, after the system was updated from kernel
4.15.0-58 to 4.15.0-60, I began getting frequent kernel panics (system
seldom remained up for more than an hour after a reboot). I have
included example stack traces below. After memtest revealed no
problems, and fsck revealed no problems, I opted to rebuild from a
fresh install, this time of Ubuntu 18.04, server. Upon completing the
rebuilt, and put it back in service. It crashed with the same kernel
  panic within 30 minutes.

I have since updated to kernel 5.0.0-27 and the kernel panics have
  completely stopped.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1843152] [NEW] Kernel Panic with linux kernel 4.15.0-60 possibly related to network subsystem

2019-09-07 Thread David Burrow
Public bug reported:

1. Releases: Ubuntu Server 16.04 and Ubuntu Server 18.04
2. Package: Linux Kernel 4.15.0-60 amd64
3. What I expected to happen: Not a recurrent kernel panic.
4. What happened instead: Recurrent kernel panic.

While running Ubuntu 16.04 server on an internet appliance that was
serving as my router, after the system was updated from kernel 4.15.0-58
to 4.15.0-60, I began getting frequent kernel panics (system seldom
remained up for more than an hour after a reboot). I have included
example stack traces below. After memtest revealed no problems, and
fsck revealed no problems, I opted to rebuild from a fresh install, this
time of Ubuntu 18.04, server. Upon completing the rebuilt, and put it
back in service. It crashed with the same kernel panic within 30
minutes.

I have since updated to kernel 5.0.0-27 and the kernel panics have
completely stopped.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1835664]

2019-09-07 Thread linux
"bcfg" is the boot configuration command contained in the Tianocore/EDK
II UEFI shell.

It is possible to boot the PC into the EFI shell rather than GRUB or an
OS to use the shell.

There is further information on how to obtain and install the EFI shell
version 2 in this thread:

https://superuser.com/questions/1035522/how-to-add-booting-parameters-
to-the-kernel-with-bcfg-from-the-efi-shell

Bug description:
  SRU Justification

  Impact:
The upstream process for stable tree updates is quite similar
in scope to the Ubuntu SRU process, e.g., each patch has to
demonstrably fix a bug, and each patch is vetted by upstream
by originating either directly from a mainline/stable Linux tree or
a minimally backported form of that patch. The following upstream
stable patches should be included in the Ubuntu kernel:

     upstream stable patchset 2019-07-30

Ported from the following upstream stable releases:
  v4.14.115, v4.19.38,

  v4.14.117, v4.19.41,

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1843146] Re: Upgraded SSD to Patritot Burst 240MB and now sda1 ext4 goes read only

2019-09-07 Thread Fonss
I think the SSD report looks clean. I'm thinking that maybe there is a
way to store whatever happened and then go to read only?? maybe that way
I can get a glimpse of what may be going on. I read about a similiar
issue with Samsung drives, but none of the software there actually
applies to patriot drives.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1843146] Re: Upgraded SSD to Patritot Burst 240MB and now sda1 ext4 goes read only

2019-09-07 Thread Fonss
Here are a few lines of the text as the computer goes to CLI in read
only mode... All typed, so I could have a typo or three in there:

These lines sort of repeat about 10 times with different reference
numbers. Inode related mesages are repeated in different order in sets
of 10

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1832144] Re: Ubuntu 19.04 suspend freeze on Dell inspiron 7373

2019-09-07 Thread Carlos Cesar Caballero Diaz
Ok, I have installed the rc7 of the kernel v5.3, and if I enter in the
root prompt of the recovery mode, and type "systemctl suspend" the
laptop seems to suspend properly (the power button led turns off and the
fan stop) but then it freeze recovering.

Ubuntu 19.04 suspend freeze on Dell inspiron 7373

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I have installed Ubuntu 19.04 in my Dell Inspiron 7373 and I am
getting issues with suspend. When I lock the case or write the
"systemctl suspend" command, the screen turn off, the system freeze
and the laptop keeps turned on. I need to force the laptop turn off
and on again. There are some cases when it suspends without issues,
but most of the time it freezes.

There are some workarounds for issues like this one but they are
mostly for laptops using nvidia graphics.

I am not sure how to provide debug information about this issue, but I
can give it if someone tells me how to do it.

  "lsb_release -rd" output:
  Description:Ubuntu 19.04
  Release:19.04

Nvidia card consumes large amount of power in suspend mode

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I am running 19.04 on a Lenovo X1 Extreme. The laptop has an Nvidia
1050 Ti Mobile graphics card. I am using the Nvidia driver version 430
via the graphics-drivers PPA package nvidia-graphics-drivers-430 of
  version "430.40-0ubuntu0~gpu19.04.2".

When the computer has the Nvidia drivers active via prime-select, a
large amount of power is consumed in suspend mode. I have attached the
  output of this script:
  https://www.thinkwiki.org/wiki/ACPI_sleep_power_drain_test_script
(battery-test.log) which estimates that the computer uses about 4.5 W
  on average during suspend.

On the other hand, when the Nvidia card is not in use (prime-select is
used to switch to Intel graphics and bbswitch is used to ensure the
Nvidia card is off), the power drain during suspend mode is 1 W or
less. Therefore, it looks like the system fails to power-down the
Nvidia card before suspending when it is being used.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1730069] Re: kernel 4.10 fails to boot on AMD E-350D APU

2019-09-07 Thread nh2
A patch was posted that solves my problem:

https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=203463#c8

Can you check whether it helps for this bug too?

kernel 4.10 fails to boot on AMD E-350D APU

Status in Linux:
  Confirmed
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I am running ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS on an AMD e-350D (GA-E350N-WIN8
motherboard). This has always worked fine until the kernel was
upgraded to 4.10 as part of the regular system upgrades. Since then
the machine wont boot, there are no errors, the screen just stays
blank. If I boot using a previous kernel (such as 4.8.0-58-generic)
  then it all works fine.

As of the 7th of Nov 2017, all the linux kernels above 4.8 that I have
tried have failed, currently this includes:

  linux-image-4.10.0-30-generic
  linux-image-4.10.0-32-generic
  linux-image-4.10.0-33-generic
  linux-image-4.10.0-38-generic

This isn't particularly suitable for projects that previously used
libcpufreq and intend to migrate to libcpupower, because the
libcpupower.so symlink is no longer installed. The command-line tools
can also have symlinks (e.g. cpupower -> cpupower_$(abi_version)).

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1824559] Re: Lenovo Yoga mouse is slow & laggy in bluetooth mode (low polling frequency)

2019-09-07 Thread Patricio Inzaghi
I have Ubuntu 18.04 on a Dell XPS 13 with a Logitech bluetooth mouse
m720 triathlon with the same issue (20Hz polling rate by default).
Following the steps given by wysiwyg31 in #10
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/1824559/comments/10)
solved my issue.

Title:
Lenovo Yoga mouse is slow & laggy in bluetooth mode (low polling
  frequency)

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Hello,
I have an issue with a lenovo yoga mouse.
This mouse has 2 working mode either bluetooth or with a provided usb dongle.
USB dongle works fine, but bluetooth don't.
  Cursor is slow and laggy.
"evhz" (https://gitlab.com/iankelling/evhz) reports 22Hz in bluetooth mouse
while USB mode and other mouse reports 125Hz.
  Polling speed is too slow.

I tried different howto suggesting to change usbhid mousepoll value => does
not help.
The mouse seems handled by btusb module, not usbhid (modprobe -r usbhid
killed my other mouse, but not the lenovo, while modprobe -r btusb killed the
lenovo).

  I tried 2 laptops (XPS9370 with 18.04, kernel 4.18 and kernek 5.07 and
an older dell Precision M6400 16.04 kernel 4.15).

Bluetooth pairing works well, either with gnome bluetooth interface or
  with "bluetoothctl"

Both laptops reports ~20-22Hz polling speed with evhz (and same laggy
  behavior)

I also tried 2 bluetooth interface on the XPS13 9370 : the integrated
bluetooth and a Sabrent USB Bluetooth 4.0 (to connect with the
Sabrent, I have switched off integrated bluetooth with rfkill).

  ProblemType: Bug

Title:
  bionic: support derivative linux-fde kernel

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Impact:

Several Ubuntu core projects which require UEFI secure boot with full disk
encryption enabled.
The linux-fde derivative kernel which satisfies this requirement by providing
a kernel binary with an embedded initramfs.

kmods to support HW crypto, filesystems, HW random number generation, etc.
The requirement for some of these modules to be built-in comes from:
  1.
https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~snappy-dev/initramfs-tools-ubuntu-core/trunk/view/head:/modules/modules.amd64
  2.
https://git.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-kernel/ubuntu/+source/linux-snap/+git/bionic/commit/Makefile?id=6c3c9030bbae7f1a5c1a1773424431fe2c6c

The purpose of this bug is essentially used to track the kernel config
changes introduced on top of the amd64-generic Bionic kernel.

  Regression Potential:
Low. The kernel will be maintained as a derivative kernel.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1823076] Re: System wakes up immediately after suspend if Bluetooth is still enabled

2019-09-07 Thread Jiri Kanicky
You can use the following workaround.

List devices which can wake up the notebook from sleep:

# cat /proc/acpi/wakeup | grep enable
PEG0 S4 *enabled pci::00:01.0
RP01 S4 *enabled pci::00:1c.0
RP05 S4 *enabled pci::00:1c.4
RP09 S4 *enabled pci::00:1d.0
RP17 S4 *enabled pci::00:1b.0
PXSX S4 *enabled pci::02:00.0
XHC S0 *enabled pci::00:14.0
LID0 S3 *enabled platform:PNP0C0D:00
PBTN S3 *enabled platform:PNP0C0C:00

Look for XHC device. You can match the device by running "lspci"

Disable wakeup
# echo XHC > /proc/acpi/wakeup

If I send the notebook to sleep "echo freeze > /sys/power/state" it
should stay in sleep even if you move BT mouse or hit key on BT
keyboard.

Title:
System wakes up immediately after suspend if Bluetooth is still
  enabled

Status in bluez package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in linux package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
After replacing my USB mouse with a BT mouse, I noticed my machine
would no longer suspend without immediately waking up. i.e. I suspend
and see the light go into the slow fade in and out for one cycle and
then goes solid and the display wakes up again. If I disable BT (via
  blueman applet) suspend works fine.

I've fixed this by shutting down the BT service before suspend, and
starting it back up on wake, as indicated here:
  https://askubuntu.com/questions/797590/ubuntu-wakes-up-immediately-
  after-suspend

Perhaps this script should be included in blueZ as suspend issues seem
very hard to debug and the immediate wake after suspend could be
caused many any number of things.

[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1842726] Re: Random freezes on 4.15.0-60

2019-09-07 Thread Roddie Hasan
I am having this same issue and I do run Docker Compose, but not with
any name-servers set explicitly. I just downgraded to 4.15.0-58 to see
if that stabilizes things.

Status in linux package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:

  Description: Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS
  Release: 18.04
  `

  Hi,

I get random freezes on 4.15.0-60. Neither */var/log/kern.log* nor
*/var/crash* contains anything useful. When it happens it's like it
went into a NOP-loop, everything freezes (including mouse pointer) and
it reacts to nothing until power cut or reset.

I wasn't able to find any steps to reproduce it, it seems fully
  random.

  Kernel 4.15.0-58 works fine.
