Uninstalling the nvidia binary driver (367.57) and moving back to
Nouveau "fixed" the problem for me. The reproducibility of this problem
seems to dependent on the nvidia video card model, as I have another
workstation with another nvidia card model and the other one had no
issue with the boot

Yes, I think this issue happened after an update/upgrade but I don't
remember the kernel version. The problem first appear with Ubuntu 14.04.

After changing my hard drive, then my entire PC, then upgrading the
kernel to 4.5.2 and also my nVidia drivers to 364.19, the messages went

Hello, i'm currently having the same issue on a Thinkpad T450, with
Ubuntu 15.10 and 15.04
The output of alsa-info.sh gives me a different codec instead of the proposed
fix information

Wouldn't the grub2 package simply be held back if the proper version
required by grub2-signed isn't available?
Why did the grub2-signed binary package get uninstalled during the
update?

It's been merged into SteamOS Brewmaster (as they were in dire need of
the fix), but not into the mainline kernel yet.
