@pHeLiOn: Thanks for putting in the effort! Seeing that this is not resolved
yet, I figured that though I'm not a kernel-hacker/sysadmin-guru by a long
shot, I'll throw my tidbits in, in the faint hope that someone gets onto the
right track.
(For rememberance: Acer Aspire E13, Intel Celeron N294
I'm affected by this bug, too.
System is Acer E13 Laptop with 250G SSD, Intel Celeron N2940, 4GB RAM
Initial and only install on this system was Ubuntu 16.04(where I had to insert
a parameter into GRUB to prevent another system freeze bug to occur), uprgaded
flawlessly to 17.10 and then to 18.04.
Hi Vitor,

Christopher, I am sorry I can't reproduce the problem anymore. The BIOS
is updated and the system on the laptop is now Ubuntu 15.04. The
mentioned USB3.0 hard disk is working fine. From my point of view you
can close the bug report.
Thanks
Matthias

I found a workaround which reduces the problem. The microphone is still
not working. I installed the mixer pavucontrol. In the configuration tab
I switched off the HDMI profile. See attached screenshot. Now the
speaker is working fine for me.
