[Kernel-packages] [Bug 1214180] Re: [Toshiba Portege Z935-ST4N03] will not suspend again after suspend/resume
I am happy to report that in Ubuntu 13.10, running kernel 3.11.0-15-generic, this issue has gone away, presumably because the changes in the upstream kernel I had been using for a while got into the Ubuntu kernel that is currently installed. I had been running an unsupported kernel for a while and hadn't tested, but today I booted into 3.11.0-15-generic and it seems to be fine at least as far as this issue goes. Thanks! [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1214180] Re: [Toshiba Portege Z935-ST4N03] will not suspend again after suspend/resume
OK, I downloaded the ISO from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily- live/current/ labeled trusty-desktop-amd64.iso 03-Dec-2013 07:49 884M Desktop image for 64-bit PC (AMD64) computers (standard download) and used the Startup Disk Creator utility on my desktop machine (which is running the LTS version of Ubuntu currently) to create a startup USB stick from it. I then attempted to boot my Toshiba Portege laptop off that USB stick. The same thing happened as in #5 though -- I hit f12 when booting, and it looked like it was going to boot off the USB, but then I got a message that flashed to the screen too fast to read, after which I was at the main Grub menu and it booted off the hard disk after a few seconds. So I am unable to test the latest daily ISO build. Sorry. If you have any suggestions for how to make my laptop boot off the USB, please let me know. As I said earlier, if you have just a kernel that I can try to install to see if I can boot off that, I'd be happy to test that. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1214180 Title: [Toshiba Portege Z935-ST4N03] will not suspend again after suspend/resume Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: After suspending my Toshiba Portege Z935-ST4N03 laptop once and resuming, I am unable to suspend the second time. A few more notes: a) This USB stick does boot when I use it in my desktop machine. It just doesn't boot in the Toshiba laptop. b) I used a digital camera to record a video of the bootup, and was able to see the error message. I have attached a screen shot from a freeze frame (wow, that was harder than I thought it would be!). It's a bit blurry, but it seems to say: Could not get fio for li-DevIceHandle: 2 Failed to find fs Failed to load image Failed to find fs Failed to load image Press any key to continue... I am not sure about that first line or what it all means, but it wouldn't boot. Jennifer Hodgdon, thank you for testing Trusty. I'm going to have to set this back to Confirmed, as it would appear you are wedged in to a scenario where the upstream kernel fixes your issue, but you are unable to properly test out if this fix has landed in a newer release. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1214180] Re: [Toshiba Portege Z935-ST4N03] will not suspend again after suspend/resume
As I noted back in August, I am unable to boot this laptop from a USB stick ISO image of Ubuntu. See comment #5. So I cannot easily test with the new release to see if it will be fixed. Do you have just a kernel that I can download and test with? I realize it won't be a perfect test, but it might be better than nothing. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1214180] Re: Toshiba Portege Z935-ST4N03 will not suspend again after suspend/resume
JenniferHodgdon, could you please confirm this issue exists with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/ . If the issue remains, could you please run the following command in the development release from a Terminal (Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather and attach updated debug information to this report: apport-collect -p linux replace-with-bug-number Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Please do not test the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once you've tested the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following tags: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For example: kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.11-rc5 This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags: kernel-bug-exists-upstream kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER As well, please remove the tag: needs-upstream-testing Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. [Kernel-packages] [Bug 1214180] Re: Toshiba Portege Z935-ST4N03 will not suspend again after suspend/resume
I downloaded the AMD 64 ISO image from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily- live/current/ and used the Startup Disk Creator utility to make a bootalbe USB stick. Then I hit F12 on bootup, went into setup, and made sure the USB stick was first in the bootup order. Then I tried several times to boot off the USB. However, even though when I hit F12 to see the USB stick its identifier is there in the list, my system is not booting off the USB stick. I keep getting through to the regular hard disk Grub menu instead. There is some error message flashing on the screen but it is too fast to read. I also tried re-making the USB drive, this time making sure to erase the disk first. Following the instructions on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UEFI (because I do have UEFI on this computer), I also verified that I have Secure Boot disabled in the BIOS (that was already the case) and that RapidStart Technology is disabled (that was also already the case). So, I am not sure how to proceed with testing the latest mainline image. Obviously, I don't want to reinstall the O/S on my computer. And it does not have a CD/DVD rom drive, so I cannot try booting from that. HOWEVER, I was able to boot from the mainstream kernel labeled v3.11-rc6-saucy from the URL suggested above (AMD-64 version). I was also going to try the 3.9 RC8 Raring kernel, but the .deb file I downloaded (twice, just to be sure) would not install with dpkg -i (message said ... is not a debian format archive). The specific kernel I booted from says 3.22.0-031100rc6-generic. And, when I booted from this kernel, I was able to suspend repeatedly. So I would say this is fixed upstream. I will try mark this bug accordingly after saving this comment. (not sure if I can do both at the same time and I don't want to lose the comment) If bisecting to figure out which kernel it is first fixed in would help, let me know and I would be happy to do so. ** Tags removed: needs-upstream-testing ** Tags added: kernel-fixed-upstream kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.11-rc6 ** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu) Status: Incomplete = Confirmed -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kernel Packages, which is subscribed to linux in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1214180 Title: Toshiba Portege Z935-ST4N03 will not suspend again after suspend/resume Status in “linux” package in Ubuntu: Confirmed Bug description: After suspending my Toshiba Portege Z935-ST4N03 laptop once and resuming, I am unable to suspend the second time. When I attempt a second suspend, the suspend does not complete. I have tried to suspend via right-clicking on the Power Manager applet, and I also tried (as suggested at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/SuspendResumeTesting): sudo apt-get install checkbox sudo bash /usr/share/checkbox/scripts/suspend_test --full When running that script, the first time the computer suspended and resumed itself, but the second time, the suspend didn't succeed. I eventually hit the power off button and held it down until the computer shut down, then rebooted. I got a crash report and attempted to report an issue, but it didn't (as far as I can tell) actually send the data anywhere, although I clicked Continue, so I am instead trying this route.
