Title:
package linux-firmware 1.173.1 failed to install/upgrade: i
I noticed there were some earlier errors (something to do with dual
Nvidia adapters and usb memory sticks) but running update-initramfs
won't produce these errors, the log stays silent.

This is almost certainly related to the hung task messages in dmesg.
Changing this bug to be against the kernel.

I notice there are some errors in the kernel log that you previously attached
to this bug.
Could you run the update-initramfs command again, and attach /var/log/dmesg to
this bug when it hangs?

Yes, it hangs, there's no errors on terminal:
~$ sudo update-initramfs -u -v
[sudo] password for :
Available versions: 4.15.0-22-generic
4.15.0-20-generic
Keeping /boot/initrd.img-4.15.0-22-generic.dpkg-bak
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-4.15.0-22-generic
Copying module directory k
Do you see any errors if you run 'sudo update-initramfs -u -v'? Does it
hang?
