A similar patch that solves the same issue was actually merged for 5.18 [1]. I encountered this bug with our current u-boot (2022.01+dfsg-2ubuntu1) and linux kernel (5.15.0-1004.4): I applied the patch in [1] on top of 5.15.0-1004.4 successfully and it solved the problem. So as you already tagged
