The test I made was without virtualbox (bare-metal). In the virtualized
one I don't even have the problem with 3.13.1. So, in my view, the
problem has to do with virtual-box drivers or something related to it.

Just upgraded the kernel to 3.12.4-031204-generic - and the bug still happens.
The HDMI audio is selected by default. I'm using a Dell XPS 13 laptop, which
doesn't even have an HDMI output, so there's no audio at all.

Oh welll I can now conclude that my system can lock during boot
like in #5. And that even if virtual box is not at all installed.
So virtualbox clearly pushes thing, but the preempt-stuff can tip by
itself also.

Will do. Never tried to build the mainline kernel with the cross
compiler, though. It'd be great if you add arm64 as part of the mainline
builds in the future.

already done it in comment #10 (its the mainline part). i can boot up.
but what i had noticed, the computer freezes a little later while i
work, or browse the web.
