So I took a stab at turning @Mathias's work into DKMS driver for Ubuntu
14.04, but I can't get past one issue.

this fix does not work for me. I have lubuntu 14.10 installed with all
updateds. But I still need to enter my password twice on start first time it

Yes I discovered that too, psmouse from 3.17 kernel does not build with

Kim Tyler, no problem. What you have done already is a kernel version
bisect. While this is good progress, as per the bisect article you would
need to continue by bisecting the commits between these kernel versions
to find the specific commit.
